They told me it would be a 6 week job (which sounded absurd at the time and I knew it would take longer than that). 7 months later after they started work (we moved out in an attempt to make it easier and quicker) we were finally able to move back in. Somewhere along the way they say they went ~$30-40k over budget, which they failed to tell me about until 2 weeks after they stopped working on my house (not fully completing the work). Personally I think they just didn't care about my project and Phil was spending the summer getting his pilots license instead of overseeing the work at my house. They used the money they said I owed them (they never would fully document the expenses) as an excuse to not complete some minor things or honor their 1 year warranty. Before they even stopped working on the house, the LVP flooring they installed through out the house started separating in a couple places. Now it's either separating or buckling all over the house. Their workmanship is poor and they used cheap materials. Their attention to detail is a joke (like the bathroom faucet handles don't start/stop their turn in the same places and hot/cold water is backwards) and numerous mistakes were made throughout the project (used the wrong type of paint on all of the doors in the house and had to redo, they drilled for the wrong size handles on the cabinets having to fill, touch up paint and re-drill, window trim installed crooked, used wrong edging on backsplash, crooked light fixtures, etc.). The cabinets are terrible, the slow close drawers don't close, shelves have fallen down, and they left 2 completely unfinished inside. All of the caulking has dried up and split. The paint job throughout the house including the cabinets is terrible. I spent all my money to be left with something that looks like amateur did it. Phil's office manager wife was absolutely horrible to work with once I signed the contract. Before she was super nice. Same with Phil. Phil flat out lied to my face multiple times - saying he had purchased finishes when he had not. Then when it was time to install, the finishes I chose they were no longer available. I had to take additional time off of work to go find new ones. Anyhow, I could go on all day about how much I think they suck but my advice is to steer clear of these folks - no integrity or professionalism.

Fred, the owner, and his crew were competent and professional. The job was to upgrade and customize a house I had just purchased. The budget ended up being around $60,000. It included a complete remodel of the kitchen and one bathroom, practically from the studs up, and new LVP floors, baseboards, ceiling lights, and paint throughout. They also vastly improved the deck with handsome railings and steps down to the yard. Actually, if I could, I would give FJC even more stars. Of all the contractors I have worked with over my lifetime, Fred was by far the most committed to ensuring that I got what I wanted, and the most collaborative. His suggestions and creative solutions vastly improved the ultimate design and saved me money in several areas. He also has excellent taste. The LVP flooring that he found and recommended to me is stunning. I spend a few minutes every single day just admiring my floors - yes, I actually do. And finally, Fred is a self-starter and uses his initiative in appropriate ways. As one example, the movers had left my heavy outside dining chairs stacked up on the deck. I asked Fred to un-stack them and place them around the table. The next thing I knew, the chairs were in place, the new cushions had been unpacked and placed on the chairs and the shipping cartons had disappeared. I already have some basic ideas about what we will do to our kitchen, but I was really looking forward to getting input from a designer about the specifics. After our appointment, John said he would email me a design blueprint of sorts along with a cost estimate by the following week. The following week came and went, along with three more weeks, and finally I received an email from John's much-more-friendly associate, Scott, who apologized for taking so long and included a short, one-paragraph explanation of what could be done with our kitchen. No blueprint was provided as promised, and the paragraph about our kitchen design was so vague and elementary that it looked as though John's associate had taken it upon himself to write it since John simply did not have time for our project. I was offended and embarrassed to think that John Webb would honestly believe this was appropriate. It took almost a month for us to receive a short paragraph about our kitchen design? I could have written that design (without the slew of spelling and grammatical errors) in about three minutes. Also offensive is the thought that I would even CONSIDER working with John Webb after this laughable "design" was put forth for our review. If it takes him (i.e. his associate) that long to write a paragraph and email it to me, how can I be sure that he would ever actually complete our kitchen remodel? I felt like we were too lowly and uncool for John Webb, so much so that he didn't even bother to take the time to think about our design at all. VERY disappointing and unprofessional. I don't like to jump to conclusions, but it seems very clear to me and my partner that John Webb simply didn't want to work on our project. Maybe he thought we were too low-brow for his fancy designs? Or maybe he just thinks we don't have money to spend on a kitchen remodel. His loss. I was informed that I wouldn't be able to even glance at the design without signing a $30,000 contract. Sorry, but that's ridiculous. The "design" that was emailed to me did not provide ANY information or details that would give me a clear picture of what was intended. It was clear that Scott wrote up a paragraph and sent it to me because John was too busy to sit down and write a real proposal. No time to flesh out a $30,000 kitchen remodel for an eager client? Sorry, but I think it's fair to say that that is unacceptable. I didn't cancel an appointment with John, as Sanford so adamantly states... John never bothered to make an appointment with me after I asked for more details about the design itself. Luckily, I've found that not all designers are this pretentious or awful with customer service (the fact that John's partner would refer to an unhappy customer as a "bad apple" should be evidence enough of their desire to promote their business positively).
