A very short ride down the road brings you to Arisaig Provincial Park, where you can walk along the beach and see fossils. We stopped as we were leaving Nova Scotia, Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail on our way back to the states. A good stopping off point for a similar road trip. Also close to Pictou and the PEI ferry. When we booked, we did it as a package and also got books, passes to several attractions/museums and tickets to 2 musicals. The location was perfect. Having been very lucky to stay in some pretty incredible places around the world, there's no question that The Old Parsonage easily ranks within my top five. I was stuck looking for a place to get away for a couple of days to myself during which I could do nothing but write, drink wine, relax, and write some more. (And drink more wine...obviously.) After a chance meeting with one of the two owners, an artist himself who takes pride in offering a unique space for creativity, I was sold on the Maitland Suite and booked myself in for a two night, three day stay. When I finished the hour-ish drive from the city, I was floored to realize that I had the entire building to myself - meaning that my plans of being a recluse in my room for three straight days instantly changed to cozying up in any of the six to eight different sitting rooms that were all at my disposal. The fact that I was able to feel as comfortable as I would at home, except with infinitely more beautiful surroundings and gorgeous wood-fire heat, was unbelievable. From room to room, it's plain to see that not a single detail has been overlooked. Each space is a meticulous collection of shabby-chic décor that's both luxurious and liveable - that is, it's not a place where you feel uncomfortable spending the entire day and night. I lounged around like I owned the place, stopping short of napping in the middle of the main living room although I can't imagine that having been a problem... You won't have to rush out in the mornings in search of provisions either. I would make my way downstairs at my leisure to find fresh orange juice, coffee, toast, and scrambled eggs ready for the feasting as I chatted with the owners about life in the UK, our favourite cities around the world, and the importance of getting away from it all from time to time. Truly, I could go on and on, but I won't. Instead, I'll just say that before even leaving the premises, I had already arranged two more plans to return with family, and am already looking forward to my next writing escape. I can't imagine spending them anywhere else.

Fantastic stay at this very charming inn by the cliffside…read more I was looking for a nice bed and breakfast but had resorted to Airbnb since I was booking last minute, and was ecstatic when I came cross this place, checked out their tripadvisor reviews (#1 in the area) and just contacted Robert directly through the Cliffside Inn website. Conveniently located 5-10 minutes away from the PEI ferry, the breathtaking view of the waterfront and trees captures your heart as you drive up to the inn. We loved our two bedroom suite, which, while cozy, gave you balcony access and perfect view of the cliffs and ocean as the sun rose behind it each morning. The common spaces in the inn was comfortable as well, and Robert was a great host - very welcoming and prepared a wonderful breakfast each morning, and spent time with us to help map out our day to some fantastic off-the-beaten path spots of PEI. Highly recommend this inn, and definitely look forward to coming back.

Down by the water is a great strandkorb, imported from Germany, where you and your partner can sit with a beer or glass of wine and look at the water to relaaaax. There is no swimming in the water (too rocky), but it's still lovely to explore and take photos, watch the wildlife, and breath the fresh air. The only downside to the stay was that you had to pay an extra charge for breakfast. Granted, the breakfast was delightful, but it pushed our stay into a slightly more expensive zone than we had wanted.

The hardwood floors, the ceiling, the crown moulding, the railings outside, the bathroom. It can be a museum. The bed was OK, but the room had character. Overlooking the river and some side small rooms also rented by the same folks. Please refer to the pictures to believe it. The living room (parlour then) was amazing. They have pictures of the original owners. The house built more than 130 years ago!! We also told the host that we were vegetarian no eggs and a vegan. The host still made amazing breakfast for us. The floors were a little creaky and I don't think soundproofing was fantastic, but the furnishings were old-school and very cute. The slanted ceiling, old wooden wardrobe, pictures and quilts, lacy curtains, and the washroom (with a shower and a separate old-style bathtub) had an adorable antique vibe. The size of the room was standard, but the washroom was quite roomy. I personally loved it! I believe it was a heritage house. It also had an amazing view of the harbour. Unfortunately we got in late and it faced west so we couldn't see sunrise, but I imagine sunset would've been spectacular! We also had breakfast there. If you're looking for fast grab-and-go this probably isn't the place (although I'm sure you can make arrangements), since there was just a couple as staff. However, the service was great and they were super attentive. The food was home-style and made on the spot to order, and coffee is freshly ground coffee beans pressed. It was a relaxing meal overlooking the beautiful view of the water. Would recommend a stay here :)

What an amazing place to stay!…read more I'm so so happy we booked a three day package here because we had such a lovely time! This bed and breakfast is owned by Judy and her family and they are the sweetest people ever. We arrived quite early on Tuesday morning because our flight from Montreal left at 7 AM. Thankfully the room was ready for us before noon which was a pleasant surprise! Judy took the time to explain everything to us in the sitting room and she gave us a bunch of info pamphlets on restaurants and activities on the island. Our room was on the top floor so we had to carry all our stuff up two flights of stairs which was good exercise. The room had two beds, one queen and one single. The single was in the room with the desk, couch, chair, and TV. The bathroom was small but definitely functional and we were provided with dove shampoos and body wash. Our room was cleaned daily and towels were changed out. There was an AC unit in our room but we only had to use it once one afternoon when it was quite hot and muggy. We preferred to open the windows and get a nice cross breeze through the room. Parking is super easy right outside on the lawn. Breakfast is communal downstairs from 8-9 and you have your choice of eggs & bacon, French toast, oatmeal, or cereal. They definitely know how to cook eggs here so shout out to the chef in the kitchen! My mom ordered poached eggs and they were done perfectly, and I definitely enjoyed my over hard eggs. The jams were super yummy as well; not sure if they are made in PEI but they were perfect on the buttered toast. Prior to receiving your main meal you get to start off with fresh fruit, tea or coffee, and orange juice. I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Judy, her two daughters, and her husband. They are so sweet and hospitable and willing to take the time to talk to you and see how your day went. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone coming to PEI who wants to stay in an old style Victorian house with a lovely family :)

She is chock-full of Island history and has all of the insider tips any visitor could desire. She made sure we got the full Anne of Green Gables experience (my wish) and the best seafood meals (my husband's) while we were there. We had such a lovely, relaxing visit as a result of her advice and help. I think staying at the Barachois enhanced our feeling of returning to Anne's childhood home, too. Returning to quaint North Rustico each evening and retiring to our cozy b&b helped immerse us in that feeling of coming home, as Anne often referenced in the book. Thank you, Judy and Andrea, for keeping our spacious room tidy and clean, and for the delicious breakfasts and equally tantalizing stories about the island.
