Once we were settled we inquired about dining options and he marked them on a map of the area. In the morning the manager, Rod, was able to help us narrow down some places we could visit during our stay in Charlottetown and on our last morning he suggested a route for us to take getting to Cape Breton. He even told us to call the hotel if we had any issues in finding our way there. Our room was located on the top floor, same side as the front of the hotel. It was a decently sized room with a desk, tv, armchair and closet. The bathroom was a decent size but the shower stall was quite small and the water took a long time to warm up. Our on last morning we let the manager know that we enjoyed our stay but that the mattress was way too soft for our liking and he let us know that he's heard the same comment from other guests and that the mattress is actually new. In our section of the hotel there were a few rooms with a (small) common kitchen, dining table and a sitting area. Within the whole hotel there were a few common sitting areas both indoor and outdoors. By the front entrance there were coffee and ice machines along with filtered water. Breakfast was served in two dining rooms. There was all the makings of a continental breakfast (toast, juice, coffee, tea, yogurt, cereal) and servers would come by periodically to take orders from their menu and remove plates. There was a selection of six items to choose from and most came with locally grown potatoes (omelette, scrambled eggs or tofu, eggs benedict, oatmeal, waffles). Portions aren't big but if it's not enough then it's easy to grab some toast or yogurt to go along with it.

Our room was so big, had a kitchenette and a balcony. The bathroom worked great, the shower pressure was wonderful and the whole facility was clean, quaint and just beautiful! Room was cozy but very small. Very noisy, you hear and feel when people walk in the hallway or take shower. The temp outside was in the 80's and the window air conditioner provided barely adequate cooling. The gaps around it were sealed with tape; I'd hate to stay there when its cold outside. Difficult to set the shower temperature. Bed and linens comfortable. The grounds are pretty and well landscaped. The property sits right on the water with beautiful views. There are several common areas that offer cozy couches with coffee tables. The adjacent restaurant is not cheap but their food was delicious - my halibut was perfectly cooked with lots of finesse. Their lobster bake was rich, creamy, tasty and came with toasted pesto pita slices - it was worth the $18. Breakfast is included and was good. Cereal, bagels, yoghurt, juice, sausage and eggs toast, muffins etc. Short on fresh fruit though. Coffee was very good. Staff was friendly and service minded. We checked in late and were hungry and the front desk clerk found us some muffins. So...if you bring earplugs for sleeping you should be OK.

They have combined the welcoming informal atmosphere of a cottage with the elegance and charm of a resort. What is your pleasure? You will find it here: golf down the road, fresh mussels and lobster, relax around the outside fire pit, take a hike or bike ride. The best part is that you are minutes away from Charlottetown AND the best beaches in Canada. If you are searching for one location - home base if you will - while visiting PEI - look no further. Great for kids, great for couples and great for weddings and corporate meetings. Loving it. Oh, look, the sun is coming out...another beautiful day - off to golf now!!

The main issue we had was that the room (double with two beds) was small and cramped. I would recommend getting a suite if you are traveling with two people with luggage. We could barely find places to put our suitcases. Parking is free and the parking lot is behind the hotel but it is very cramped and when we arrived it was 100% full. If I did not have a handicap placard I would not have been able to park at all. Not sure what we would have done. Also, the parking lot has signs on every space with instructions to pay to park there. Hotel staff did not inform me of this and it was very confusing because they had told me parking was free. Other than that, no problems. They do have a restaurant which was excellent. They do not have room service but a server brought our dinner up to us one night. I offered to go down and pick it up but he insisted. I thought that was nice.

I had to take a photo for my grandkids of my hand using an actual brass key to open the hotel room door. The wooden transoms (no longer in use) over the doors added to the feeling of times gone by. The bathroom was tiny, but acceptable considering the age of the hotel. The bed was quite comfortable. This location is within easy walking distance of downtown and the wharf. This facility has an indoor pool in the lower level and a restaurant on the premises. The hot breakfast each morning was very good: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, yogurt, fruit, pastries, juices. We arrived just as two tour buses rolled in. The staff was very busy, but were friendly, not flustered, and kept things rolling smoothly during the semi-chaos.
