I can't say enough great things about this little gem. My girlfriends and I were planning a "meet…read morein the middle" get together as two of us live in Dartmouth and the other two live in Cape Breton. We wanted a cheap spot to stay overnight where we'd be comfortable to hang out and a have a girls night. After a recommendation from a coworker, I looked this place up online and was immediately sold. And what a deal! They currently have a "Trip Advisor" rate for the off season of $79 a night for any of their 8 rooms. We picked one with 2 double beds. The $79 was based on double occupancy, so we had to pay $10 each per extra person. But $99 is still a steal, especially considering what you get in return. It's located about a 5 minute drive from Main St in Antigonish. The exterior is sort of non-descript and much what you would expect from a motel. It's okay, but nothing special. It is definitely not an indication of the rooms. Our room was very homey. It is painted in lovely warm but light earthy tones, and the flooring was a nice honey-toned laminate. The L-shaped bathroom is cute and roomy with ceramic flooring and a fantastic-looking tub. The entire room was immaculate. The beds are soooo comfortable with clean white duvet covers and no shortage of pillows. Lots on the bed, along with extra pillows and blankets in the armoire. A TV and DVD player also sit in the armoire, and the office has a tall bookcase filled with DVDs you can borrow for free. One wall in the room holds a small kitchen, with cupboards, dishes/utensils, a stove, small fridge, microwave and counter space. It's very unobtrusive within the room, yet so convenient. A selection of chips and chocolate bars were on the table as part of an honour bar. The prices were no more expensive than what you'd pay to buy them yourself. The fridge had a couple bottles of complementary water, along with some soda which was also part of the honour bar. We wanted to check in early so we could leave our luggage in the room, and that was no problem at all. But when we walked in the room, we liked it so much we stayed a little while before heading out again. It was so clean, we removed our boots at the door. Then we all immediately plopped on the beds. We were so comfortable we basically had to force ourselves up after 5 mins to go out and explore, otherwise we'd just crash for the day. We came back late afternoon and curled up on the beds again for some girl talk. We headed out later for a nice dinner and grabbed a few DVDs on our way out for that night. We came back to the room with dessert to share, grabbed some forks and dug in. Then we all got in comfy clothes and got in bed to watch some movies and chat, and eventually sleep. We were so comfortable there. When we woke up the next morning, we took advantage of the continental breakfast, which is included in the room rate. What a selection! Homemade muffins, fresh bread, fruit, bagels, granola bars, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal and more - plus juice, tea and coffee. We spent an hour or so chatting in the breakfast room (which is made up of 2 or 3 tables and chairs on one side of the office, next to a large window), while enjoying our lovely breakfast. When it was time to check out, I was sad to leave. It would have been great to stay another night or two. Lovely inn with amazing attention to detail (above and beyond), and super friendly and welcoming service. I can't recommend highly enough!

The Antigonish Evergreen Inn combines the best of the hotel, motel and B&B formats. My wife and I…read morestayed two nights at the Inn before continuing on to Cape Breton Island and enjoyed our stay; enough to return for another night on the return trip. Breakfast is served in the office reception area by the owners. Richard and Linda are warm and friendly; after a few minutes you feel like old friends. Their staff are also friendly. During our stays we enjoyed homemade blueberry scones - cereals, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt and more are also available. Staff and owners assisted with travel plans, suggestions for meals, etc. The rooms were tastefully decorated, hotel quality and well-equipped including robes and slippers as other reviewers have noted. Desks have a pop-up panel concealing electrical outlets and USB outlets. The rooms have (electric) fireplaces with heat available which adds to the atmosphere. There are many thoughtful touches; I noticed that each room has a small glass ring storage dish. The motel format adds the advantage of easy parking close to your room's door - no stairs, elevator, corridors or large parking lot to navigate. I will definitely return on my next trip to Nova Scotia.

Stayed the night here on our travels through Cape Breton…read more This is a quirky place, where the rooms are quite oblong (ours had two double beds in it, with a short amount of room between the foot of the bed and the wall) The bathrooms for each room are situated across the hallway, but each room has its own bathroom. The room key opens both the room door and the bathroom door... but to get from your room to the bathroom, even in the middle of the night, you have to leave your room and go across the hallway. As I said... quirky. However, the rooms are clean, there are nice seating areas located around the place, and we slept well. Room Amenities: - Cable/Satellite television - Wi-Fi Down the hall there is a common kitchen area as well as a fridge, which is meant for travelers to store their medication that needs to be refrigerated, but we used it to keep some luncheon meat cool. There is also a gym, but it has seen some better days. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel, though it seems to mainly produce pizza at night. In the morning they serve a continental breakfast for free, and it quite nice to sit there and talk with the kitchen staff and owner. Locally, there is a pub down the road that features live music most nights, highly recommended if you are in the mood for some local music and a brew.

A comfortable king-size bed means a good nights sleep before enjoying a complimentary continental breakfast with fresh homemade baking including biscuits, cinnamon rolls, and bread. If you're there on weekends, you might enjoy their great selection of pizzas for a light snack or dinner. An outdoor wooden patio and a large parking area immediately adjacent to the inn add to your convenience in this affordable spot run by conscientious owners. Top marks for quality and price here!

Upon entering the door my heart must have sank looking at the old house. I though this is going to be a long night. The welcome was warm and friendly and John was funny. Which was a relief. He showed us the bedroom which seemed older. But as we settled we came to grips that this must be a century home. The hardwood floors, the ceiling, the crown moulding, the railings outside, the bathroom. It can be a museum. The bed was OK, but the room had character. Overlooking the river and some side small rooms also rented by the same folks. Please refer to the pictures to believe it. The living room (parlour then) was amazing. They have pictures of the original owners. The house built more than 130 years ago!! We also told the host that we were vegetarian no eggs and a vegan. The host still made amazing breakfast for us. Blueberry Scones or biscuits were the best I have ever had. I could just pay them to eat those biscuits. Again the hosts were amazing. Newfoundlanders in Nova Scotia exceptional hospitality

My family stayed in a unit in the house so I can only speak for it, but it was so adorable! The floors were a little creaky and I don't think soundproofing was fantastic, but the furnishings were old-school and very cute. The slanted ceiling, old wooden wardrobe, pictures and quilts, lacy curtains, and the washroom (with a shower and a separate old-style bathtub) had an adorable antique vibe. The size of the room was standard, but the washroom was quite roomy. I personally loved it! I believe it was a heritage house. It also had an amazing view of the harbour. Unfortunately we got in late and it faced west so we couldn't see sunrise, but I imagine sunset would've been spectacular! We also had breakfast there. If you're looking for fast grab-and-go this probably isn't the place (although I'm sure you can make arrangements), since there was just a couple as staff. However, the service was great and they were super attentive. The food was home-style and made on the spot to order, and coffee is freshly ground coffee beans pressed. It was a relaxing meal overlooking the beautiful view of the water. Would recommend a stay here :)
