I've been coming to the Des Moines Art Festival for years…read more Food truck, drinks, live music pepper the streets of Downtown DSM. They have the streets around the PapaJohns Sculpture park blocked, which is the perfect addition to the festival. Artists come from all around the US to get into this festival. The art is higher quality. If you wish to add to your collection you may have to shell out a little more money. They do include local art students. Local school children's art. There are interactive art instillation's. This year we contributed to a piece they will put in a local school when completed. They gave us a tile and a little visual to try and match. Then they sprayed them to lock in the medium for installation at a later time. We like to get involved in these almost every year. Get yourself an adult beverage and sip and enjoy. We take a slow walk around the booths. We try and take in as much as we can. So many different varieties of art and mediums. They have live music , performers, film and sometimes you can catch live demos. Thousands of people come down. This year they added a sensory space for people who need a break from the craziness of it all. Street parking where you can find it. You can bring your kids or fur babies. Although it always seems to be so darn hot, that I wouldn't recommend the fur babies on the hot streets. We try and go one of the first days cause it gets crazy busy the rest of the weekend. You will always find something new each year. Go and enjoy it. I don't have a bunch of pictures cause I always get so immersed in the event I leave my phone in my pocket. It is also frowned upon if you don't ask the artist permission before. So my lack of photos is an excuse for you to go check it out.

From its not-too humble beginnings at the Des Moines Art Center to one of the nation's preeminent spanning several city blocks, the Festival has become a great cultural gathering place. Printers, painters, sculptors, filmmakers, musicians... there really is something here for everyone. Admission is free for the three days the festival runs each year. The art is priced from take-me-home-now to no-way-in-my-wildest-dreams, the people watching is solid, and the free entertainment is usually worth much, much more than the price of admission (which is, don't forget, free).

I now however will never use them again! In February of 2024, I got an invoice for $658.00 and paid it promptly as we had another property also done around the same time period. I didnt check the invoice well at the time (yes my own fault) before paying as I strive to pay our vendors quickly. When I went to file the receipt , I realized this was not one of our properties and I had paid someone else's bill. 20 emails back and forth questioning this which I've had to follow up every single time as they surely wouldn't contact me, all copies of cashed check as requested, receipt as requested and a final email of promise to make it right and pay us back with now no response and still not paid. Juan Flores sent me an email on July 2nd saying he would take care of it and here we are, September and no longer getting replies nor have we been paid. Next will be better business bureau. If you overpay, they will keep the money and just ignore you. Horrible way to do business!

We also bought a peanut butter cookie bone for our pup for dessert ;) apparently they also have a" chicken nuggets" option where you get "chicken nuggets" instead of the "cheeseburger"!! My puggle loved the cheeseburger, toy, and peanut butter cookie, not so much the fries! He did at first til he had the burger :P anyway highly recommend! Next time I think ill just order the burger separately!
