The service here is impeccable. If the store doesn't have the music you're looking for, they can order almost anything. The employees are very knowledgeable and helpful. We have been a customer with Rieman Music for a number of years as our kids explored being members of their school band. Most recently, the staff at the Urbandale store helped us clean and repair our Yamaha Clavinova. They were friendly, fair in pricing and gave unexpectedly speedy service. Ron and his staff explained the process and were upfront with timing and pricing. He even made sure that we got our unit delivered back to Ames. We have had similar good experiences with the Ames location. We will definitely return to Rieman Music and would recommend to the store to others. read more

Both of my girls take piano / vocal here with Dorothy Hecht. My eldest quickly lost interest right out of the chute, however, Dorothy's willingness to focus in on a song choice that my daughter had to work on for her school's winter program really pulled her back in and kept her interested. Both girls love her and I like that she has shown us flexibility with a nice, sunny attitude. Unfortunately Vanessa does not have first-hand knowledge of what occurred as she was not present during what occurred at Rieman's nor was she on the phone with me and the store manager. While as a loyal employee I appreciate her desire to defend Rieman's, unfortunately she's without any first-hand facts to substantiate any support since she had no direct involvement in anything that transpired. I stand by the fact that I was treated unprofessionally, without cause and it wasn't the first time I was treated rudely, pushed to the side in lieu of another customer even though I was there first, but what transpired certainly was the last time I'll ever suffer them treating me disrespectfully. read more

They have so many different instruments and accessories it is a great shop with plenty of choices, from guitars, to piano's, to drums, to violins, to more unique instruments like mandolins and ukulele's they have almost everything! The staff is super friendly and helpful and they have a nice selection. The store is clean and easy to navigate and they have a nice large parking lot. Their prices on some things are a bit steep but they do have a ton of accessories for all of their instruments and the shop is huge. They also do repairs, lessons, and school rental's as well which is a bonus. read more

Buy back program is a joke. Won't buy back an instrument even with a buy back program. In the end you pay double what the instrument is worth and have a hard time selling it again. Honestly be smart buy privately or go to Uptempo Music in Beaverdale. They have better prices and do not charge interest. read more

Reiman music has been the institution for music stores in Des Moines, Iowa for a long time! This is the first ever music store I went to in DSM over 15 years ago! I also used to shop at their location in Ames quite a bit! If your looking for a piano, this would be the spot in town I would choose to buy from, they are experienced and have a pretty nice selection in store! They are also a FENDER dealer so carry my favorite kind of Electric guitars! They also have all your band, and orchestral needs filled whether your buying bows, or mouth pieces for your violin or horn! This store is the biggest Rieman's I have ever been too, they got it all here! It's a one stop shop for anything music related! I always try to shop local when it comes to music stuff! If your a guitar person I would go to Professional Music, but if you are playing the keys, or band instruments you might want to hit Rieman first! They also do lessons, and can fix things! There is a reason they have been in our community so long... Good service, and they sell good stuff! read more

They only care about that Almighty dollar! When your child rents an instrument and no longer needs it he returns it to the school and that's where the instrument is returns to the owners. 4 months later we get a bill and I have been charging us for an instrument we don't have. After a couple phone calls they simply just don't understand. I would not recommend this place to anybody! read more

GPC..GPC...GPC...GPC... how many times do we have to say this when we drop off a horn, call about status of horn, call again about status of a horn?! Seriously. We dropped off a horn for GPC and were told the next day we would get a call from a tech on when it will get done. After three days of no calls, my husband finally got someone there to tell us the tech was on vacation. When someone finally called us, I was told 2 weeks for the horn to be "fixed". I clarified that I only wanted GPC. "Yep, yep, that's what I meant." Is what the guy said. 2.5 weeks go by and my husband calls for a status and he was told that horns get "fixed" in the order they come in. Husband said ok and said we asked for GPC not "fixed". Both my husband and I had to make several more phone calls over the next week, and finally 4 weeks after dropping it off, it was done. Husband just went to pick it up and the cost was $150, twice what GPC has cost us in the past. He asked about it and he guy said they fixed it, not GPC. We will never go back. They CLEARLY don't care what their customers ask for, nor do they know how to give good customer service as the guy told my husband he was wrong in what we asked for. I'm beyond pissed! **ADDED: The store is trying to displace blame on me for not asking for a price in one of our many calls to the shop, after being told in a private message that it is their policy to provide this information. read more

This is a great music store - they've got everything you need to get started, and some higher dollar stuff if needed. They offer lessons, have a great selection of sheet music, and their prices are reasonable. I've been to some of the nicer music stores in NYC and L.A., and they might have higher-dollsr celebrity appeal, but for my time/money/skill level Rieman's is the real deal. read more

I'm a complete novice with instruments, and they were so helpful to me. I came in about 30 minutes before closing looking to get my banjo restrung, and they seemed actually happy to help me out right then. As the tech was working on it, he encountered an issue that caused the whole banjo to fall apart. He fixed that, restrung it and tuned it, all the while showing me what was going on and patiently answering my questions. Then, as he rung me up, he only charged me for the strings, not the labor. He said, "I'm not going to charge you for that mess." I was floored. What a great experience. I totally recommend them to work on instruments. read more

Really enjoy visiting this store! I've been to the other "big box" store in town and it's always a big cluster f. The store atmosphere is very laid back and the employees are always smiling happy to assist you. They have a great selection IMO and in most cases if they don't have what you need it can be ordered. I generally stick to the guitar section and I think his name is Nate (the handsome guy with blonde hair) is super knowledgeable about all things guitar, pedals, amps, and audio related. He does great work with restringing, setups, fixing issues and making suggestions. Pretty awesome guitar player too! I had a gig in Des Monies and I came with a new guitar and the action was terrible. Anyway, I stopped in to Reiman to pick up a keyboard rental--they were great and had the keyboard ready to go. While I was there, I asked if they could take a look at my guitar. The tech was awesome- he took a look and right away saw the rod needed adjustment and the saddle was too high. In 5 minutes he had the action lowered and the guitar felt so much better. I really appreciate a place where the employees are masters of their crafts. This is the place you want to spend your money.
