We live in just north of Boston. Coming from NYC, there really isn't "mass transportation" anywhere in Boston, let alone north of Boston, seriously. So taking good care of our vehicles is mucho importante. How many times do we go to a mechanic and wonder if what they are telling us is the truth? 100%? Yeah, I know it. Mechanics are like heart surgeons - could we really tell a heart surgeon that we don't think the diagnosis they are giving us is correct? How in the world would we know? We would hope that they are telling us the truth. But the truth is in the "pudding" when it comes to mechanics (as well as surgeons - but I'm not yelping about surgeons) I have been using Stoneham Gulf for the past 5 years on all our cars: the practical 2000 Honda Civic, to the much needed in New England 4wd 1998 Honda Passport, to my sunshine only baby 1998 Chevy Camaro. They have always been upfront with things going on with the cars including cost. And they have always been right. I leave my cars there knowing they are in good hands. From oil changes to inspections to a exhaust replacement to air in my tires - I'm covered. I don't even bother with dealerships any longer - what a rip off. We all hope that there isn't a lot of time we have to spend at any mechanic - no matter how nice they are, right? But it's a good feeling to know when something major may be occurring that there are people you can trust to find out the problem and fix it for you. Took my suv there to be fixed three days ago, went by to find out what was going on with it only to find out it hadn't even been touched because he said "it needs to start to be fixed" I brought the car there because it was randomly not starting, I figured it was a starter and I needed a tune up. So again I ask "what is taking so long?" He walks away from me and sits in the garage and starts texting on his phone completely ignoring me. I have never in my life been treated like that by any mechanic! It's disgusting and totally wrong. "What should I do?" I ask, again no answer. So I got my car started and took it out of there. Don't bring your car here!!! Every time they fix something something else breaks and they treat customers like garbage! read more

Awful. Just awful. They are rude to their female customers, no respect, difficult to understand, impatient, and condescending. I was getting nowhere when I bought my car in to be inspected...was berated because my inspection sticker was expired and something was wrong with my wheels. I asked for my car back so I could take it to get the wheels replaced before trying again for an inspection but the d*ck wouldn't release my car to me. I told the guy I was calling my husband, and that was the only thing that got him to start to respond to me like I was human. My husband came and it was like a whole new experience. These assh*les need to learn to treat all customers equally and leave their cultural bias out of the workplace. I wish there was a negative star option because I would have given it. read more

I brought my wife's car there. She broke down about block away and I jumped the car and drove it to this station. I needed an alternator, The mechanic, who owns the place, said leave your number fix it in couple hours and I will call you. Two hours went by he called and said you are all set your car is ready to be picked up. I walked down to the Gulf, the mechanic had left, he gave keys to guy working the gas pumps. The guy took my $150.00 and gave me the keys. I went out to my car and started it and all lights came on in dash. I went back in and asked what happen, he called the owner and he said he thought it might be a bad alternator and I should come back Monday. I went back out to car thinking I would just come back Monday to fix the problem, and car would not move. He damaged my car even more beyond alternator. I had to tow it to another mechanic to fix it correctly. When I asked for my money back or partial refund he refused. He knows he screwed up because he never said anything over the phone and took off before I got there. Than I tried to at least to get some money back and he didn't want to hear it. Now I am taking him to small claims. Besides a sticker I would never do any service at this place and learn a lesson from me always use a credit card so you don't have to go through what I have to and go to court to get your money back. VERY, VERY pleased with this merchant! VERY grateful, as well. He may just be the last, HONEST mechanic in the U.S. (Apologies to those others we may not have met.) I am disabled and living on a small, fixed income. Therefore a LARGE, car repair bill is a BIG ISSUE! My car has had two, major repair jobs completed at this gas station in the last six months. Both times, we felt the work was thorough and accurate, as well as fairly priced! The staff that assists are both pleasant and friendly, as well. (WHAT a concept!!) My b/f took two, secondhand cars to the proprietor to review, mechanically, e.g., a thumbs-up or thumbs-down on the potential purchase. In both cases, this mechanic found major flaws that would have cost, at least, $300. to $600. down the road. I have to agree with Joanne. I have been going to Stoneham Gulf since 2001. They have serviced my Toyota Corolla, Dodge Durango and Volvo S60. They are as honest and accurate as the day is long in addition to being incredibly reasonable. There have been times when, out of curiosity, I have received quotes from other places. These guys beat the price every time, are fast, courteous and professional. I live in Swampscott now yet I still drive to Stoneham for all my vehicle needs because these guys are just THAT good! read more

I went in to get an inspection sticker and the guy performing the inspection pulled my truck in and misjudged the length of my vehicle. He banged in the side of my truck against one of the planters in front of the bay. When I said something to him he denied he did it . I actually watched him do it. I've purchased gas and had service done there for 10 years but I'll never go there again and hope other people will do the same . read more
