    Pre-Op Area

I first came here in December 2025 when my husband had surgery on his arm. It's now January 2026. My mom has a colonoscopy scheduled this morning. Her nurse provided amazing care with patience and compassion. They usually have about 10-12 patients that they are prepping at one time with multiple surgeons practicing here. I just witnessed a patient having a seizure in the pre-op area. The doctor responsible for the patient realized what was happening and calmly called for her team to assist in stabilizing the patient. They all rushed to her aid and communicated beautifully throughout the entire emergency. They worked together to provide their teammate with support, medical equipment needed to assist in the breathing stabilization of the patient. They all stayed with the nurse and patient until she came out of the seizure. They explained to her what happened. The patient asked for her husband/boyfriend/friend multiple times but they made sure she was first stable before they allowed him back. When he arrived back here, they explained in detail what happened and how they responded. They made sure he understood what happened. If I had any reservations about this place, witnessing this, eliminated them. I feel the nurses provide an authentic human experience while maintaining professionalism and level heads during emergencies. Great job to the pre-op team!

I've had…read morefamily members be hospitalized here both in the med center and the rehab across the turnaround entrance, and when I come to visit I sometimes pop into the cafeteria to get something before going to see them. They have several parking garages that offer short term parking for free (like 30 min or less), but otherwise unless you have validation, you do have to pay. The spots are kind of small and so are the signs in the parking garage, so pay close attention to make sure you're driving in the right place. Overall though, this is a pretty good med center in my opinion that offers most of the major medical subspecialties you may need for your care. The inpatient rehab is also one of the best in Austin, and they are one of the only facilities that offers a driving test if there's a medical concern for someone's safety re: driving (e.g. in a patient with cognitive impairment/early dementia).

They've made improvements to parking and the rooms, but the café and food options still need some work. The check-in process for day procedures could also use improvement. It seems they are updating the lobby area as well. The staff is attentive and does their best, and I had a great experience with the ER staff during my last visit. However, the follow-up care after the ER visit could be better. Overall, this hospital is one of the better options in the Austin area. After reading others' reviews and their experiences, I've realized that many of the issues are common across hospitals in the US medical system, not just this one. I am glad we have the doctors of St David's South on my father's medical team. They have given us 16 and counting bonus years.

Despite her visible dehydration and the difficulty staff had establishing an IV, she remained in the ER for approximately four hours without receiving any IV fluids. Before being discharged, she suffered a physical setback, yet she was still sent home. The following day, we were notified that she tested positive for C. diff. It is deeply concerning that a patient in her condition, with what turned out to be a serious infection, was brushed off and discharged while still thirsty and weak. We now have to wait several days to see her primary care physician for follow-up care that should have been initiated or supported by the emergency team. I am disappointed by the lack of effort and the dismissive attitude we encountered during this visit. I would appreciate a review of her case and an explanation as to why standard interventions, such as administering saline fluids, were not provided given her symptoms. We can do better for all patients.

I have a major needle phobia so I was having a panic attack about the blood work. The nurse practitioner was completely unhelpful. We let them know at sign up i needed something to calm me down. I was scheduled for surgery at 7:30 a.m. and was instructed to arrive at 5:30 a.m. My family and I understood that there could be some delays, but we were not prepared for the nearly eight-hour wait before my family was able to see me and before I was finally able to get a room. The extended wait was very difficult for both me and my family, particularly after arriving so early in the morning and undergoing surgery. The lack of information and the amount of time spent waiting made an already stressful experience even more difficult. I understand that unexpected delays can occur in a hospital setting, and I appreciate the work of the medical staff involved in my care. However, I believe better communication regarding the delay and more timely updates for both the patient and family would have made a significant difference. I hope the hospital will review what happened and consider ways to improve communication, patient flow, and the process for getting patients settled into their rooms after surgery. Patients and their families deserve to know what is happening and to receive reasonable updates when significant delays occur. Thank you for taking my concerns seriously. I hope this feedback can help improve the experience for future patients and their families.
