A quick search confirms that smoke detectors can trigger false positives from ironing, blow dryers, and similar sources. I'm torn on this one. Truth be told I used Marriott points…read moreto pay for this stay, so my rating could have been different depending on how much the room was. Going to Mohegan this is probably the closest hotel. They have a free shuttle on weekends so that's a plus as well. As for the hotel itself, it's smaller, just 4 floors. Seems older but the rooms seem updated with a bit of wear on the furniture. Forget about looking out your window because the area is a bit sketch. The hotel itself is lacking a restaurant and bar so if you want to chill there it's not gonna happen. They do have a complimentary breakfast with was average at best, but good enough. The rooms are large, not sure if they are all the same but you enter into a nice living room with a flat screen and a fridge and microwave. The latter two kind of awkwardly placed facing the tv and the room door. Sleeping area while separated has no privacy from the living area with a very large entrance. Nice though with its own even larger tv. Bathroom decently sized. Biggest complaint other than the lack of amenities was we were literally in our room for less than10 minutes when the night manager came knocking on our door saying they had a noise complaint. Welp it was just the two of us and other than kicking off my sneakers we hadn't even settled in yet. When I explained we just got back to the room and there is no way we were making any noise she said to just keep it down. Not a way to make a Bonvoy member feel welcomed. Will we go back? Depends on if I have to pay or not. Not an awful place by any means but probably towards the bottom when in comes to Marriott hotels.

The location…read moreof this hotel is super convenient close to downtown Mystic, the Seaport Museum, and Olde Mystic Village. Crystal Mall is 15 minutes away with chain stores and chain restaurants. The hotel itself was just ok. The layout of the check in area is odd. The employees at check in and breakfast were pleasant. The breakfast was good with more offerings than expected. They had hot breakfast, cereals, muffins, breads, yogurt, fresh fruit, chocolate milk, orange juice, coffee and oatmeal. A nice touch was upon entering the room there was a towel lobster and a print out with some local history. It reminded me of walking into a cruise cabin. The room itself was just eh. Our room was clean, but the furniture was stained and worn. It definitely is need of upgrades. The sofa couch open or closed was extremely uncomfortable. We stayed for one night on a short weekend trip. The hotel served it's purpose, however I wouldn't stay more than one night or if you are looking for more than the basics.

This hotel is very close to Mystic and along the I-95 corridor. We have been to Mystic many times,…read morebut never spent the night as it's not terribly far from home. I used points rather than spending nearly $300 on a room and I am glad I did, I would've been very disappointed spending the amount of money that the rate listed for what we received. The hotel allowed us to check in early and even called us to tell us our room was ready ahead of time which was great greatly appreciated; however when we arrived, the housekeepers were still cleaning and told us they needed at least five more minutes. There seemed to be a disconnect as when the hotel called us. We arrived about 20 minutes later. There seemed to be a lot of water in one of the bathrooms, and I'm not sure if they were trying to fix an issue outside of housekeeping. Once we got settled, we went to the pool as it was an unusually hot and humid day and we hoped to get a quick dip in to feel refreshed. The pool water literally felt like a hot tub. I couldn't understand why they would have it so hot even if it was a heated pool indoors -- that would typically be around 80° I imagine but it literally felt like it was 100° I immediately got out. We went back to the room and got showered and ready for our evening. We noticed many areas of the room and furniture needed to be fixed, updated or refreshed. Many doors did not close, drawers did not close, things were scratched or damaged or worn and the safe did not work. Our room had actually been "upgraded" so I'm unsure what it would've looked like had we got in our original room. It was clean and spacious, however. The breakfast was included which was the standard Marriott buffet. It was not great just OK. Of note, we could not make ice in our room as there was no ice tray, and there did not seem to be any ice machines in the building. The front desk told us they would bring us some ice, but never did. I wouldn't plan to stay here again, but it did the trick for the one night we were here.

When we arrived, the toilet in our room was broken\. It took approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to repair, during which time we couldn't use the bathroom or shower before going out to dinner\. The bathtub also wasn't draining properly until we finally figured out a way to get it to drain ourselves\. In addition, the refrigerator wasn't cold on the first day\. We had actually called ahead to ask them to make sure it was turned on because we experienced the same issue during a previous stay\. The next day, we returned to the room to put our baby down for a nap and found contractors installing new carpet directly outside our door\. The constant hammering and nailing made it impossible for our baby to sleep\. We asked if the work could pause for just an hour, but we were told no\. The only solution offered was to move us to a much smaller room where the only bathroom was located inside the children's sleeping area, which wasn't a practical option for our family\. The staff offered us a bottle of wine as compensation, we declined\. We then asked if there was another way to make the situation right, such as adjusting our room rate, but the manager said no\. We've always enjoyed staying at The Whaler's Inn, which makes this experience particularly frustrating\. Maintenance issues can happen, but multiple room problems, disruptive construction during the day without accommodation, and the lack of a meaningful resolution left us feeling that the value did not match the price we paid\. We hope management will take this feedback seriously and improve the guest experience\.we will not be coming back . I do not recommend - the staff were SO RUDE

The house itself is absolutely beautiful…read more Approaching the house is a well appointed garden and steps up to a wrap around porch with a lovely gazebo that would be perfect for relaxing with a drink and listening to the birds in warm weather. From the porch, you also get a peek at the Mystic River and the Mystic Seaport. (I could see the Mayflower which was on a lift at the seaport for repairs-absolutely charming.) When you walk through the front door, you are greeted by artwork, books, and a parlor off to the right. There is a baby grand piano, tuned and ready to be played in the parlor. I just loved all the hand painted details by a local artist. It is a cozy, happy room. Walk straight through the front foyer and you enter the dining room which has coffee, teas, and water available 24/7. There was a plate of cookies on the table that were home made and out of this worldA scrabble game was set and ready to go. A well rounded breakfast menu was posted and you can order whatever you like, all home made including the granola. I am gluten free and Josephine was so accommodating. I even discovered a new GF bread that I thought was better than most I have tried. Josephine has a talent in the kitchen to say the least. Everything was delicious. There is a lot of local information on where to go and what to do. OK- now, the Mermaid Room This is not a large room but it has everything you need (including a little fridge) and the hand painted walls are an absolute study. To think one young lady produced all that art, a talent to be admired. There are 3 more rooms upstairs but I wanted to be on the main floor. I found the location perfect. It is not on the main drag so it isn't noisy but just walk a couple of blocks and you are right in the middle of downtown Mystic with all the glorious restaurants, cute shops, and a drawbridge over the Mystic River. 100% charm. See how many mermaids you can count‍. I will definitely go back. I would like to go on a river cruise next time. I am recommending the Mermaid Inn to all my friends and family.

I found this Hilton Garden Inn which is about a 15-minute drive from the Mohegan Sun. The hotel was nice and clean, which is a plus to me. The only downside about the room is that the drain in the tub was clogged and the water was draining too slow during a shower which made me feel gross standing in that water.
