3.5 Star Hernder…read moreEstate Wines is one of the most down to earth wineries during my Niagara wineries crawl. The wines here are decent and affordable. Good for everyday drinking (even cheaper than some of my large format beers!) The staff here is all really welcoming and the pour definitely really generous! I was though not too crazy about their Iced fruit wines, maybe for slush making? We ended up picking up 2008 Gewurztraminer ($9.95) & 2010 Cabernet Franc ($16.95). The ground though not too glamorous but has this older rustic country vibe! Pro Tips: A lot of bus tours stop here and the tasting room is quite small to handle the crowd. Don't go in when you see any buses parked at the parking lot, would have save you a lot of time!

The atmosphere has a classic banquet hall feel, yet the pavilion offers a great open vibe that makes it easy to mingle and enjoy the event comfortably. Staff has always been very friendly and accommodating, helping events run smoothly. Another plus -- there's good ample parking, making things convenient for larger gatherings. Overall, a Niagara institution that continues to deliver memorable events with warmth and consistency. Saluti.

Recently stayed here for Canada Day in a traditional room with 2 queen beds…read more Primarily wanted to stay closer to Fort George National Historic Site due to the festivities. During Canada Day, Fort George has a BBQ (hamburgers and hotdogs), live music, canon performance and fireworks. This location is ideal if you want some freedom to rest / go elsewhere throughout the day. Only a 6 min walk or so from Fort George. Room: A bit dated but if you are just staying one night it's fine. I wasn't in the room much. However, traditional rooms face parking lot so I recommend asking for 3rd floor. It is a bit dark but more privacy on a higher floor. Also I think room could have been cleaner, there was a lot of dust collected by the windows. Service: Staff at hotel are quite nice and during Canada Day, they served sangria in the lobby and had some cute Canada Day sparklers, stickers, a small candy bar, etc. They also text you asking if you need anything and rate your experience with them. Amenities: On the Basement level, open 7:00am-10:30pm there is an indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room, and gym available. By the elevators they also provided a tea/coffee bar. I went right at 7am and no one was there, nice and quiet so you have it to yourself. Another service they have is a shuttle. You can request it to take you to fort york, into the town, and other areas but it's close to a lot of places so we never ended up using this service. Overall, not a bad stay and I wouldn't mind coming back if this location was near some activities I wanted to check out like Canada Day. If just coming for a regular stay/ anniversary/ celebration - I would lean towards like deluxe rooms and above. For instance, deluxe rooms face the marina with lots of sun but only has king beds.

We were able to check in early and both woman at the concierge desk were friendly and informative. Room was spacious and clean. Just a short drive/ walk to many restaurants and bars and Buff State Campus. I think this is such a cool place with lots of history. One downside for us on this particular stay is the Bar is closed currently as they resold to a different company and there was no information on when it will be reopening so keep in mind if you are planning on staying there anytime in the fall of 2025. You will have to make a short drive to other spots in town! Overall, pleasant stay and would definitely return if we are in the area again.

The first floor is dedicated to the history of the asylum, propaganda about how the asylum treated people better than other asylums did at the time (but I don't believe that at all) and details about what it took to renovate the space to become a hotel. The asylum is but one building in a cluster of at least 10 hospital buildings. All of the rest of them are still abandoned and in disrepair. In terms of walkability to anything nearby and blight immediately surrounding the hotel, it's not the best location. But the architecture and style was so cool to explore late at night when everybody else in the hotel was fast asleep. And yes, this place is pretty pricey to stay at but somehow the day that I checked prices, it was only $118 per night. There are not really many amenities... Rooms don't have a microwave or a fridge, even though the king room we were in had ample space to accommodate both. They also don't have a pool. And although we slept in through breakfast, I've read reviews that it's pretty lackluster. Definitely not a place I would spend $250+ a night to stay in. But if I could find it for less than $150 in the future, I l'd definitely stay there again!

We had a perfect view of the American falls and of the fireworks each night. If I were going on views alone this would be an easy 5/5 stars, however too many things were not so great to rate this place that high (especially considering the price). The most offensive thing about this hotel was the fact that our room was not cleaned very well. As soon as we walked in I found myself wiping a bunch of sticky little finger prints off the windows. It's crazy that in a hotel where the whole point is the view the windows weren't wiped at all. Even worse than that though was the nasty wadded up tissue I found in the peephole (pictured in this review). Who knows how long it's been there, I definitely am not touching it to remove it. The parking situation was a bit pricey as well for having to use a shuttle to get back to your car, however the shuttle did come very fast so it wasn't a big deal. Also, for the price you would expect the amenities to be a little better. We had no ice machine on our floor, there was no hotel bar, you have to special request house keeping, etc. Overall this hotel would be a 5/5 if it was cleaned properly. I'm not sure I would stay again though due to the cleanliness, I am super not happy with the spitball on my door. Disgusting.

The parking leaves a bit to be desired but it doesn't matter because once we were inside, we didn't want to leave again. It was such a beautiful stay. I never felt more comfortable in my life. At first I was shocked to see people walking everywhere with robes on. I don't know why but I assumed I would see that more at the pool or even the spa but people were reading books in robes in the lobby, hanging out at the bar etc.. It was really refreshing to see. Once we got in our room we threw on our swimsuits and grabbed our robes. We spend most of our time at the outdoor pool the first day. It was so amazing. I absolutely love the idea of going into warm water when it's cold outside. The contrast in temperatures is so fun. I've been in hot tubs in the winter but an entire heated swimming pool just brought out this child-like joy that I can't explain. I had way too much fun. Then we made our way down to the hot spring. That was my absolute favorite. You can book your time frames in advance as much as you want. There's a 15min limit to each visit which is kind of annoying but understandable. It makes it so everyone can get a chance to enjoy it without overcrowding. There were several couples that didn't follow the rules and just stayed there well beyond the time. They would be there when we got in and still there when we left. That kind of annoyed me that staff doesn't monitor the hot spring to prevent that from happening but it is what it is. We just stuck to the rules and booked so much that a few times we had the whole hot spring to ourselves. It was such a nice experience. It's super close to home for us and we will be back for sure. I'm obsessed.

You'll be provided with a robe and flip flops (if you forget your slippers), but you have to bring your own swimsuit. There are towels available everywhere, and you can use them. I got into Canada early, so I decided to go have some lunch. I walked in, and immediately felt like I just came home. The bartender, this lovely young woman named Onya, came up and took my order. I ordered a black and tan. She suggested I go for the smooth black and tan which I did. It did not disappoint! I may have to have my black and tans like this for the rest of my life. I ordered a cup of the buffalo wing chowder, and she said it's one of the most popular items on the menu. I asked her to bring that out first before my Classic Caesar salad. Let me tell you something about that soup. Now I'm not a big soup guy, but I do like chowders, and this was the absolute best I've ever had. Had. I've had clam chowder all over the United States but man this one absolutely nails it! It has that buffalo wing flavor which just perfect and not overpowering. I should have gotten the bigger bowl of it instead of the cup. Now let's talk about the Caesar salad. It was absolutely perfect! It had the perfect ratio of dressing to lettuce, not just poured on top like most places but actually tossed. Onya said she did it herself, so massive kudos for her going above and beyond the call of duty. Overall this meal hit on all cylinders and did not disappoint. I will definitely be back here a couple more times while I'm in Canada. If you need to find me, you know where to find me. The bottom line? You really need to get the buffalo chicken wing chowder. It is absolutely an amazing soup and will change your life. And if you like a good classic Caesar, you can't do better than this one!
