I've been coming here for about three months now, and I genuinely have nothing but great things to say. I have a pretty atypical schedule, so having a gym where I can work out between 8-12 is really important to me. The 8:30 AM classes have been perfect and make it so much easier for me to stay consistent. As a woman, I especially love the women's classes, but I've felt just as comfortable in the regular classes. I've never walked into a class and felt like I didn't belong. The environment has always been welcoming, accepting, and encouraging, regardless of experience level. One experience really stood out to me. We were doing a game/drill in class and I was paired with people who were much more experienced boxers than I am. I knew I was probably going to lose and I was honestly intimidated and didn't really want to participate. Instead of making me feel out of place, everyone was incredibly encouraging and made me want to jump in and try anyway. I think that says a lot about the culture here. I also love that every coach brings something different. They each have their own coaching style, personality, and music, so the classes never feel repetitive. You can come several times a week and still have a different experience each time. And the workouts are no joke! When I track classes on my Apple Watch, I'm typically burning around 400-500 calories, and I always leave feeling like I got a great workout. It's been such a fun way to get in better shape while also actually learning boxing. If you're interested in boxing but feel intimidated because you're new or don't consider yourself a "boxer," I would absolutely recommend giving this place a try. I've tried a variety of boxing gyms around the Bay Area--including 3rd Street, Hit Fit SF, B Street, Relentless, Los Gatos, TITLE, Royal Boxing, and Rumble--and Stone offers the best balance I've found between a solid workout, practical technique, and a welcoming atmosphere. Schedule: Classes run from as early as 5:15 a.m. to as late as 8 p.m., making it easy to find one that fits your schedule. Class structure: Classes are mixed-level and vary by day and coach. Some are more cardio-focused, while others emphasize technique. Each coach also has a distinct teaching style, with some providing especially detailed instruction that's helpful for newer boxers. Complete beginners may find the mixed-level format challenging at first, but the coaches and other members are friendly and willing to help. I recommend trying several classes to find the coaches whose styles suit you best. Technique and coaching experience: Something I struggled to find at s gyms was instruction in intermediate and advanced techniques backed by real fighting experience. You'll get that here. Every coach is experienced and has spent time in the fight game. Classes cover areas such as defense, footwork, partner drills, and responding to different fight scenarios--not just combinations on a heavy bag. The coaches are also responsive to what members want to improve. I've had entire classes focus on footwork, defense, or partner drills simply because I mentioned to Andy that I felt weak in those areas. Community: The coaches make an effort to know your name--and if they don't yet, they'll learn it. At the end of every session, the whole gym gives one another props. Those two details say a lot about the community at Stone and made a lasting impression on me from my first few classes. I been going to stone boxing for about 2 months and I've seen so much improvement in myself. My cardio and endurance has gotten way better than the first day I've attended. I lost about 25lbs since I started and boxing keeps me disciplined with my diet too. The coaches there are really nice and supportive, I go 3 times a week and I learned a lot from Coach Andy, coach William, coach Christian, and coach Denver. Like I couldn't throw a left hook to save my life and just by showing up every week and being consistent my boxing skills have improvement. I've been going to Stone boxing for a little over half a year now. All of the coaches are amazing and really put in the time to work with you and put you through classes that will have you dripping in sweat every time. The coaches adjust to the skill level of the class so I never felt lost from when I first started to now and they're always teaching us more and more new stuff while building on the fundamentals. Andy the owner was a professional boxer so the vibe of the gym is more for learning real boxing technique rather than just fitness, but people of all different types of fitness goals all train together. Some are there to get a good workout in, some are there to spar and get better, and some are training to go pro. Everyone I've trained with there has been friendly and helpful, giving me tips when I was newer, and pointing out things I can work on. Stone Boxing is in a great location and is one of the closest gyms to Japantown. I initially joined because my partner was interested in learning how to box and I wanted to incorporate new cardio into my routine. We started coming regularly and really enjoy learning the proper techniques. Currently, there are three coaches that alternate throughout the week and each are great teachers. The coaches and even the members take their time to help you if needed. Each class I attend is always a good workout! Monday to Friday there are two morning classes, two afternoon classes and an evening class. There is also one class on Saturday at 9:00AM so there's definitely always time to fit it in your schedule. read more

Everyday I leave this gym I feel better than when i stepped in the door. This is an amazing and very high level and professional gym. Ran by fighters with experience to help train the next generation. Lots of classes and different levels of experience available here, don't be shy. I have been a member for 6 months and i love it. This is the first gym I joined and I felt welcome and at home from day one. This place really feels like one big family and I am so happy to be apart of it. I took my son for a trial session, and unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed. When considering a boxing gym and potentially paying for a membership, I have certain expectations as a parent. My son started with some outdoor training, but it quickly turned into unstructured play, more like a youth camp than a disciplined boxing session. When he moved on to jump roping, he asked the coach if he could do it a certain way. Instead of offering guidance or a simple explanation, the coach responded with, "That's weird, they're going to think you're weird." This made my son feel uncomfortable on his very first day. As a parent, I find this completely unacceptable. We came from another boxing gym where the coaches were supportive and provided a structured, encouraging environment. While that gym is too far for us to attend regularly, we were hoping to find something closer that still offers professionalism and discipline. We'll be checking out Dark Horse Gym next, hoping to find the structure, discipline, and character-building environment that my son deserves. read more

Love this gym and highly recommend for all levels. Although the gym is owned, managed, and coached by professional and high-level boxers, EVERYONE is made to feel welcome and is coached equally during regular classes. I've trained at many combat sports gyms, I have 2 black belts (BJJ and kajukenbo) and have competed in MMA, Boxing and BJJ for 20 years and this is one of the best gyms I've trained at.
