They are affordable, no glitches and the reason why I always look here first is they are consistent with how they display and describe items and only keep a certain quality, when there is a partially damaged item, it is noted or shown every single time, they know how to sell their brand and keep loyal customers. Funny how none of the cars have check engine lights on....until bought and 2 miles down the road. Feel sorry for guy who bought $19,000 semi for motor to blow week later....2 vehicles I bought 1.had unplugged modules, blown head gasket with freshly changed oil 2.same blown head gasket fresh oil, unplugged components ..should have said broken. Betting seems rigged with bidding extended. One car was sold 3 times....sold to themselves? Bidder backed out, that many times when Stokes pre screens and gets $350 per car sale approx. LeAnn, the owner, is very rude. When, after 1 full month of not getting my repeated questions answered from her (red flag that I missed), I said that I was *considering* bringing my items to her. She then shouted back at me with a "NO!" over email. Wow! What a way to speak to someone. She said I was trying to dump a "Uhaul worth of items down our gullets".... I mean... really? Down your gullets? How is me asking you how to get your services dumping my items down your gullets? My goodness! Plus, she knew everything I had and that I've been trying to find an auction house to sell my partial estate. But, I guess she didn't want my business. Fine with me. read more

I live near by and occasionally go to the auction to look for an item. I think the auction is well run. I think they do a good job getting the maximum for boxes of junk from peoples homes, but you need to do a lot of searching to find jewel in the box of crap. It would be handy if Goodwill or Salvation Army set up to collect the junk that you don't want after picking out the special item or at least a dumpster. I'm often amazed at the ridiculous prices some people pay, I think they get caught up in the action and can't bear to lose. Its interesting to see all the old guys out there telling ghost stories about items "I would want one of them pieces of junk... very unreliable..." and then later see them bid. The people that bid on big items are professional and pay fair prices. Overall its fun to people watch, fantasize about getting that $10,000 item for $200, and then reality sets in, that crap you have been saving at home isn't worth much to anyone but yourself. If you have a bunch of stuff and and don't want people prowling around your house at a garage sale, this may be the place to get rid it. As they say one man's junk is another's treasure and this is the place to witness that first hand. read more

This is Dennis and I have been going to the Port Orchard auction for over 30 years and you couldn't find a more honest and fair place to do business. The rules are well posted, and the fees are obvious as the auction house has to make a living. I have purchased many vehicles and a gun from Stokes for my kids and friends and family. I was reading some of the negative comments and they are.... well, they are what you judge for yourself... not true. LeAnn, Brian and the rest of the folks are very nice and helpful. Would you rather listen to a person who has done business for 30 years, then to listen to the lady trying to find an auction house to dump her junk on? Also they guy who takes you out to the couple cars you are interested in and starts them for you is very good and gives good advice and any history that he might know of. I would give zero stars if I could. Attention everyone using Stokes for Estate Sales: DON'T! My mother passed away last year and I should have written this sooner ( was just too distraught over the many things that have to be taken care of at the time). Brian came out and looked at an entire house full of furniture and collectibles, housewares, etc.The guys that arrived to pick up packed the moving truck full and whisked away with everything except a couple of furniture items that were too old. The auction day came and went over Father's Day weekend. We received a check for about $500. Her Howard Miller clock alone was worth more than that! We were told it was a replica, WHAT?! It's a Howard Miller clock that clearly stated with nameplate! I would NEVER use Stokes again for any sales! We made more on just our own Estate Sale with the left over items we had in the house. People think again before sending your family's items to this crooked company! They rob families! read more

It's a different experience going here. It's fun. Whenever I'm in the market for something, but don't want to pay retail for it, I go to the monthly auctions here. Fridays are the 'preview days' so one can see what's available. The auction itself is on Saturdays.There are separate auctions for autos, household, and 'handyman'. If interested in attending on Saturdays, stop at the caboose and pick up a number. The auctioneer is well known in his field and is just great. I've seen great deals and I've seen bad ones. Just know how much you're willing to spend and the fair market value of the item beforehand. (I learned the hard way). :) They also sell food and beverage onsite. Auction days may be long..... I also know this to be a locally owned business who involves themselves in the community. Nice read more

I like to go to Stokes sometimes just for fun. Spend the day eating burgers or hot dogs sold on site, and then watch the people and the bargins. When I lived in WA I bought a super cheap car here. Boats always seem really reasonable!!! They have a building for auto, heavy equipment and lot sells, a building for furniture, art and jewelry sales and an area for outside sales (BBQs, mowers, large non electric stuff). Wear your walking shoes and preview as well as you can, perferably the day before. Make yourself a budget before you go, or at least before you bid. And stick to it as best you can. (I find that sometimes in the lot sales, things are going so cheap, that my bid card just about jumps up on it's own sometimes. That's why I now own 3 circular saws and 2 routers. Well, I thought maybe my brothers didn't have one. Yikes. LOL) I would go again if I needed something pricey, to check it out first. And I go sometimes just to make a day of it as entertainment. Take warm clothes if it's in the cooler months, the buildings are open and it can get chilly. Go early if you want good parking. They do have parking on site and on the road edge. None of it is paved. Did I say wear good walking shoes? Sign up for a number at the registration office as soon as you get there...you don't want to be high and dry if something interesting comes up and they will NOT let you bid without a number. Also, if you buy a car they used to take care of the DMV paperwork right there. Don't know if they still do? Anyway it is a fun day, if you like to sit and watch deals, people and are curious about old stuff. (If you like those things...don't take someone who gets bored easily) read more

I've gone to their onsite auctions as well as their "estate" auctions for at least the last 6 years. I go to find bargains for resale. There are a number of us that do this. The staff is friendly and generally it's a fun day. The problem comes from the auctioneers. Brian being the most obvious. They play favorites in the crowd. They ghost bid all the time. Often a price shoots up as no one shows any interest. Some of the folks on the car registration are just rude. It's a long day for all of us, I can't accept that as an excuse from the consistently rude service when buying a car. I have no issue when people pay over retail or a seller losses a 1500$ piece for 5$. That's the nature of auctions. But they don't seem to be working for the seller as well as they could. End lots got to certain bidders for 20$ while they will try and wrangle 2 dollars more on a 10 $ bidder. I guess the best answer is to become one of the inner circle. Also it's obvious at times that they are bidding on items ( evidence is that the item is handed up to Brian after last bid, and no I'm not talking about those items with an email bid) so they control the price of things they are buying. Overall it remains an interesting day but I'd NEVER but my items in their hands to sell. read more

So this is a strange review but I felt I need to post something. Take it or leave it, this is only my personal experience. Our Mom died and had a large house full of very old very expensive antiques and Brian from Stokes came out and said that they would take everything and no problem, they had buyers who were collectors and would find the right buyer for the collectibles. He said they had thousands of online buyers and many who come out to the facility. He estimated that the contents in mom's house would bring in about 15,000. Mind you there of course were just some "ok" stuff, but they took two trucks completely packed full to the auction. There were very many high quality pieces of furniture. An almost brand new beautiful refrigerator was sold for only $75?? Really I find that extremely hard to believe. We received payment immediately from our "sale" but It was a JOKE what they claimed the items only went for. We got an itemized list which did NOT clearly describe things. For example, a "Doll" was listed - we had 3 antique porcelain dolls and they were definitely worth more than $5 or what ever they claimed they went for. We would NOT have trusted these possessions to Stokes if they were only going to basically give them away. I have no basis for wondering - but I'm just curious what the customers really paid for the items. As I was out of state during the auction I can only go on what was reported. I give them a 2 star for being professional, having nice workers, paying the check as promised. I certainly would look into other options if I were to have to do this all again. read more

This was disordered chaos. There was no direction. I was there to help my son buy a car. He was paying for it I was just there to make sure he didn't buy something that was crap. It was a busy day and I understood that. But after waiting TWO hours in line to pay for the car which was almost $2000 of my sons hard earned money the woman behind the counter decided to insult my son about his appearance and telling him he was unemployable and being overall rude. After I explained that my son just got hired at the shipyard which anyone local knows how hard that is she stated that it wouldn't last because of his ears being gaged. She was so rude and would not stop going on and on. I WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK THERE. HAVE YOU NEVER HEARD OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. SHE WAS AN MIDDLE AGED WOMAN WITH SPIKE SHORT GRAY HAIR IF THE OWNERS SEE THIS YOU NEED NEW EMPLOYEES. I PLAN ON TELLING WHOEVER WILL LISTEN TO STAY AWAY FROM YOUR PLACE OF BUSINESS. read more

I think there are some crabby curmudgeons writing the other reviews for this place. This place is fun to go to, you never know what you'll come home with. The staff has always been nice to me and is a playful fun group. Yes sometimes people pay ridiculous amounts and go over retail price, but just don't bid on that stuff. I have gotten some insanely cheap deals here. It's just like a treasure hunt, sometimes you hit it big and sometimes you go home empty. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars are because of the dealers that frequent this place - they suck! They bid on almost everything worth anything and drive the prices up for the rest of us regular folks that are just trying to buy a few items, not come out with trailer loads worth of stuff. read more

I'm basing this review on several years of attending auctions at Stokes. Maybe 4 times a year (they are held once a month). First off I do understand the auction house has a responsibility to make money for its client, I have no issue with that aspect of the business. If they can keep finding suckers to pay more than retail on used stuff, that's fine by me. This isn't a high end auction that movies and tv have made us believe they work. The "upper barn" is where the supposedly high end merchandise is auctioned off. The "lower barn" is yard sale stuff. But I'll admit I've had fun watching and at times buying. It is the actions of the senior auctioneers that earn the two stars. To say they play favorites is an understatement. Often some auction items are closed quickly, no obvious reason, other times they sit at 10$ trying to get to 12.50 even. Often these times are just walk ins looking to get a deal. But the select few are guaranteed early low bids, recognition in the crowd when looking for bids as well as never having ghost bids on them ( the act of a "bid" declared when there is no bidder, it's a way to drive up price, illegally) Many of us have remarked that we have seen vehicles (usually work trucks) bid for and won, but they remain for the next auction. The auctioneers have announced occasionally that some cars were bid on but buyer couldn't pay. But these more expensive trucks seem to not have that story. I go when something online sparks my interest.but I know when to watch myself now. There are better auction houses out there, I'd recommend them first. read more

If I were able to select 'negative stars' I most definitely would. My mother recently moved to CA and trusted Stokes with her remaining estate. This was the biggest mistake! The day they came should have been our first red flag. The kids they sent forgot numerous items and made a hectic time even more confusing. I must add that this pick up service was $200., which seemed reasonable at the time as the value of what they were picking up far exceeded this amount, and it seemed worth it. The estimated value of what was taken was $8,000 (which is conservative). The amount my mom was paid was $218. The like-new Kitchenaid mixer or her antique jewelry box alone was worth more than this amount. It's unfortunate Stokes took advantage of my mother at taxing. We were all sickened by this and would like to keep anyone else from making the same mistake. Do your research first! We are familiar with the auction process and a good auctioneer would have made all the difference. We wish we could have afforded the time do research further... read more

I took a load of stuff over one day. I have recently spent several thousand dollars there so I thought I might sell some stuff. One guy came out and wrinkled his nose up and said I had a total of $30 worth of stuff. I tried to explain that there were newer tools etc.. Be he refused it. Another nicer gentleman came out and suggested I go to the Belfair auction house. I did and two very nice ladies were happy to get my stuff. I kept about $200 worth of items to sell on craigslist but left the rest. I just got a check in the mail. The items sold for $1100.00. Pretty much what I had estimated. They only missed the estimate by 4000%. Another curious things is the used items there that sell for more than new retail. I guess when you get enough people together there will always be someone that does not know how much items sell for. read more

Stokes is a horrible experience for sellers and buyers alike. For sellers, Stokes make you bring in your things in a kind of race, claiming they are going to fill up fast. So you deliver in the first few days that they will allow you to bring things in, while Stokes makes you place them in the worst spots. This is so that Stokes can play favorites having friends get all the best locations. Try to bring a few items to add to your little area a week later and they will tell you "Oh no, were full". But on Auction day you will find out that they have put their Merchant friends cheesy knock off Chinese vases in front of every bodies things and won't move the auction forward until they sell every one. Sellers will also find many of the items left for auction unaccounted for when they come to pick up the check. Trying to straighten out any situation with them is a nightmare. Watching your one year old LCD television sell for 5 bucks because there are only 3 people left in the room is beyond rude. They make sure that if you are not in their circle of friends, that your things will be sold dead last, when most buyers have left, many disgusted at the long wait to get past the crappy things. For buyers, I hope you like the smell of burnt beef fat and yellow mustard emanating from the ever-present Roach Coach style trailer, and the chance to stand around waiting and waiting for the items you want to bid on to emerge from the din of useless crap. Everything is filthy from the seating to the restrooms. Also the 25% Stokes charges sellers was not enough, so they have added a buyers premium. If you think you won a $100 bid for something, you will pay more like $125 with the premium and sales tax. read more

Most unorganized auction company I have ever seen. I have been to auctions all over the US and these are the only guys who think they don't need to use item numbers. If you plan on buying more than one or two items, good luck. I have never seen anything like it and walked out, completely frustrated, halfway through the auction. These guys are CLUELESS! read more
