This place is totally worth it for the money even though it's on the pricier end. The salmon was perfectly cooked. The lemon sauce they had was a good compliment but the potatoes could have been better seasoned. The pork cheeks were my favorite. The meat was very soft and tender. The sauce they used was like a nice teriyaki glaze but was also sweet because of the berries. I enjoyed the mix of flavors here. The garlic mashed potatoes were well mashed and light. The reindeer meatballs were also savory and well cooked. They were well cooked.
Since visiting Sweden, trying Swedish meatballs was a must! This place also included mashed potatoes and pickled cucumbers as well. We also ordered sausage and buttered salmon which both came with boiled potatoes. The dishes overall had a rustic feel. The buttered salmon was the best dish out of the three we ordered. The staff here were friendly and attentive.
Great place for Swedish classics. Located in a quiant side street not too far from the palace, Stockholms Gästabud feels like a quick escape from everything stereotypical to the city. You move from a clean cut architecture outside into a cosy, almost divy sit down that resembles a British pub. The staff was super friendly and helpful, the food was served quickly. The meatballs were very tasty, accompanied by the traditional lingonberry sauce and mash potatoes. What made the dish stand out was the thick brown sauce that brought everything together. The menu seemed to be filled with Swedish "classics". Would definitely recommend going. Only downside was that the place was semi filled with smoke from the kitchen, which got into our clothes by the time we left.
You can't visit Sweden without trying Swedish meatballs! We stopped into Stockholms Gästabud right as they were opening for lunch and right as our walking tour of Gamla Stan was ending. They have limited seating and don't take reservations, so getting there close to opening is highly recommended. The service was great, our food came out very quickly after we ordered, and their meatballs and potatoes were delicious and plenty of food for one person. The table next to me ordered the salmon which looked delicious, if I ever find myself in Gamla Stan again that would be the next dish I'd plan to try. Overall it was a great experience and a place I'd highly recommend if you're looking to try the local cuisine!
Literally LOVED this little restaurant! We were so hungry and it was pretty late and they squeezed us in for dinner!! The seating is very tight so just be aware of that when thinking about eating here. We had the traditional meatball and the pork cheek (yummy!!!) we were so impressed by the staff! They were incredibly friendly, kind and fun spirited! I felt like I was in a family owned restaurant in the heart of very touristy Gamla Stan! The food was good (nothing fantastic) but the ambiance and staff elevated this to a 5-star in my book
After a long afternoon of touring museums and Skansen, I was craving a light lunch away from the larger crowds. Though busy with the lunch rush, Stockholms Gästabud fit the bill. Located on the same side street as Restaurang Tradition, Stockholms Gästabud offers up a menu of traditional fare and a well stocked bar. I ordered a toast skagen and a glass of local pilsner. I decided to dine here on my first evening in Stockholm, since it was recommended to me by a souvenir shop owner. The place was a bit difficult to find, nestled in one of the side streets of Gamla Stan, but I'm so glad I persisted in looking for it. The interior was cozy and comfortable, as well as quite busy. Since it was just me, I got a seat at the bar immediately. For my meal, I ordered the slow cooked pork cheek with a gravy of lingonberries along with mashed potatoes with truffles and parsley. The cost was around $20. This was beautifully presented, with a decent amount of pork. The pork was amazingly tender, melt in your mouth delicious, with bold, deep flavor from the savory sauce. Didn't even need a knife to cut the pork. I also really enjoyed the mashed potatoes, which had lingonberries and green herbs on top. This is saying a lot, because I'm usually not a fan of mashed potato. It was thick, creamy smooth, and had strong taste of delightful truffle. Service was solid, and the waiter was especially friendly and kind. The menu contains classic, Swedish comfort food at reasonable prices.
The absolute best meatballs in the city. We came on our first day mid afternoon. There was no wait since it was off hours. Every subsequent day we passed by, there was a wait so we never had the opportunity to try it again. We had meatballs at 4 other places and none were even close to Gastabud. Juicy meatballs with a delicious sauce. Even the potatoes tasted seasoned. So good!
Fantastic lunch in the middle of old Stockholm! I got the Swedish meatballs and mashed potatoes which was soo good. Highly recommend! My hubby got the steak which was ok. He asked for medium rare and it was almost well done. Service was very good! The 2 ladies were holding down the entire restaurant. It's a small place so either come early for lunch or dinner or during off peak times. Expect a wait if you come during prime lunch or dinner time. Super cute restaurant.

We had the Swedish meatballs, special. The steak, and salmon soup. All were perfectly seasoned and flavorful. Wow! I don't know where salmon soup has been all my life, but I'm glad I finally found it! A light creamy broth with chunks of perfectly done salmon, potatoes, and fresh herbs. It is good for all the right reasons. The steak was tender, juicy and seasoned well. The meatballs were great. Tasty and ample (3 in total). It comes with brown pan gravy and mashed potatoes with a little nutmeg which was unexpected and nice. The salmon in butter sauce was epic. I would return time and again to this place. The service was fantastic. The lady was friendly, helpful, and funny. We met the chef and she had a few drinks with us as a toast. Very fun.
It's a very famous restaurant in gamla stan. The first time we tried to eat there around 7-8p.m on a sunday, the line was veryyy long and the restaurant is very small and tables are limited. So you really need to have a lot of patience. *they also don't do reservations. The second time we tried to eat there was on a weekday around 4-5 p.m. There is no line at all so we got a table super quick. The space tho is super tight. We ordered their swedish meatballs and their buttered salmon. My boyfriend didnt really like their meatballs, he said that he had better but its still pretty good. The buttered salmon tho with truffle mayonnaise was a 10 for me.
came here for dinner on a solo stop to stockholm and absolutely loved everything about it! i didn't have a reservation and it was quite busy, but the staff was so friendly and accommodating. the host sat me at a small table in between a few people and assured me that my table-mates were all super friendly--indeed they were, as i ended up deep in conversation with the folks seated next to me and the waitstaff as they popped by! the portions were huge and all the food was delicious... i had to try the meatballs and it's honestly my favorite food ever now. i wish i had more than 30 hours here because i would've loved to come back.
Such a cute little restaurant in the middle of old town. They don't take reservations so we did have to wait outside about 15-20 minutes during prime dinner time. It's very cozy and homey inside, great for a date night or dinner with a few friends. My husband and I ordered a bottle of wine and shared the reindeer fillet mixed salad which was so good. It was light and refreshing and not gamey at all. For entrees we both ordered the Swedish meatballs which were delicious. Glad I didn't have to share my plate! We were stuffed afterwards so didn't try dessert. I would definitely come back here again next time I'm in town! read more
Tiny yet right sized spot to enjoy a cozy meal on the edge of the touristy area of Gamla Stan. Service was sweet and kind and patient with the tired Americans looking to fill their "actual Swedish meatball" bucket. As with other pictures here in reviews, the plates are beautiful and the food matches. Possibly the best potatoes we've ever eaten, and definitely worth the calorie count to consume the entire plate. Lingonberries pop on the palate, the refreshing cucumber slices mix up the tastes and the softest meatballs you've likely had. Stop walking past to head to the other place down the street - turn right in to Gastabud! read more

Meatballs and pork cheeks are worthy to taste. Service is fantastic, emotional. It's more like a private bar, like it. The seats are limited, if you have 4 people, go early or late. If you have 2 people, don't need much time to wait. read more

This place doesn't take any reservations so definitely go early. They serve a really strong schnapps drink which is really good. We had meatballs and pork cheeks. I thought the pork cheeks were better than the meatballs, which I found salty. Cute and simple decor, fantastic service and in a cute area of Gamla Stan. read more
We walked past by this place many times because you will soon realize that Stockholm is not as big and it's a very walkable city! I read a lot of articles to find THE BEST Swedish meatball in Stockholm and it took me here. This place is small so you can only imagine how crowded they get during lunch and dinner hours. If you want to come here, come when it's not during those popular dining times. We came here at an odd time right before dinner and thankfully we did because there was a line out the door when we started to order our meals. The bathroom is tiny. It's Europe, everything is tiny. To be direct, the prices here are expensive. Sweden is expensive. Periodt. So don't try to complain about price. I will say, this is the best Swedish meatball I've ever had. The sauce had good flavor and it wasn't as thick as I expected it to be. The mashed potato was light and really good. Everything was well-seasoned but not overpowering. All the flavors complimented each other! I also loved the little cucumber salad on the side, that was amazing! My personal fave was the lingonberry jam - I just love me some lingonberry jam man. We came here on a cold-ish and rainy day so I really appreciate this cozy place. I highly recommend coming here and getting their Swedish meatballs if you are ever in Stockholm! read more
Worth every recommendation and a wait! The restaurant only has about 10 tables and does not take reservations. It seems there was an early rush each day as we must have all read the same reviews! First day we arrived at 4pm with very little wait but there was a wait when we left. The second day (yes, it was that good we returned the next day) there was more of a wait as we arrived at around 4:20pm. But when we were done eating around 5:30pm there was a lull with no line. Oddly other reviews recommended the Swedish meatballs and Swedish sausage (there really was only 1 medium sized link) but our favorites were the butter fried salmon (fresh huge tasty filet cooked perfectly) and Swedish rib eye. The slow cooked pork cheek in a heavy sauce was okay. The mixed fish and seafood soup was a stand out - it was amazing in a flavorful broth and full of lots of fresh fish and seafood - perfect on a rainy day. It was listed an entrée but we shared it as an appetizer. The 3 kinds of pickled herring appetizer was also worth a try - it was not fishy tasting at all. Would have liked to try the reindeer appetizer but we ran out of time and room in our bellies. We ordered an extra side of the thyme roasted potatoes. The staff were friendly and we really enjoyed our food experience! I would highly recommend eating here but order the fish soup and salmon or steak (skip the meatballs). read more

There was about a 45 minute wait when we arrived on a Saturday night around 19:15. The server took our order right away and got drinks to the table quickly. We ordered the reindeer appetizer. I have never had reindeer before, so I have nothing to compare it to, but it was not bad. The flavors were nice. The meat was a little gamey. I ordered the Swedish meatballs for my main course and it was delicious! The sauce was amazing. I also ordered the apple crisp, which I would give an 8/10. The wait staff were great. It did take a while to get our entrees but we understood it was a busy Saturday night. Overall, so glad we went! read more

Came here searching for the best Swedish meatballs and sadly they weren't as good as the IKEA in Draper Utah. The 3 types of herring were all great, the beets and goat cheese also super delicious. The salmon was good and cooked perfectly, and the raspberry panna cotta was also good. Where they fell short was apple crumble and meatballs (overcooked without much flavor) Price was decent and service was excellent so they deserved a solid 4 stars. read more
Two words: Swedish Meatballs. Let me paint a picture of a gastronomic paradise: Imagine hearty meatballs served in a rich, brown gravy, perfectly mashed potatoes, lingonberry preserves, and thinly-sliced tangy cucumber. I wish I could better describe the flavors. They were incredibly well-balanced. My favorite pairing was savory meatball with the sweet/sour bite of lingonberry preserves. Washed down with a glass of Mellerud's Pilsner, our meal represented perfectly executed Scandinavian comfort food. With regard to customer service: We were only in town for the day and, at the time, were not hungry. But we did not want to miss our chance to sample local Swedish meatballs! Because we were not hungry, we opted for splitting an entree and beer. Staff went went above and beyond, splitting the serving onto two separate plates! I was extra thankful for this thoughtfulness because I didn't have to share my lingonberry preserves! What a wonderful experience all around. We were so thankful our Yelp app helped us find this gem tucked away in the winding cobblestones of Stockholm! P.S. Yes, the meatballs were waaaaay better than IKEA. read more

This was a cute stop in Gamla Stan. The pork was ok but the mashed potatoes were really good. I had coffee for dessert to avoid going out in the rain and it was perfect for the weather. read more

Came here on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch at around 3pm and it was still packed! We only had to wait around 10 minutes, so it wasn't too bad. The place is really small, a bit dim, and has a light, casual, pub feel to it. The staff was friendly and efficient, our food came out pretty quick! I shared the reindeer and the tortellini dish with my friend. The dishes were more on the expensive side but not too bad, the reindeer was around 300 SEK while the tortellini was around 200 SEK. The reindeer was better than I thought, it was cooked medium rare so it was juicy and tasted a bit more gamey than beef but was quite similar. The juniper sauce complimented the reindeer well adding a bit of sweet and savory taste to the reindeer. The side of baked potato was also a good addition. The tortellini was really good, and the creamy sauce and side of cheese just made it even better! The tortellini felt more filling than the reindeer and they were massive too! I'd definitely come back, the food was tasty and it's worth a visit! read more

Just what I needed after getting cold and hungry from a busy day of travel and sightseeing. First, I was warmly greeted at the door and immediately seated. I needed to change my smartphone and was kindly given a seat by the outlet and also the free wifi password volunteered without my thinking of it. Ordered the three types of herring appetizer and then the Swedish meatballs entree. The food came swiftly along with a bottle of water allowing me to refill as I needed. The herring was GREAT--traditional, in mustard sauce, and cream and calvados, accompanied by egg, dill and a mild cheese with quality crackers. Really savired the varied flavors and freshness. The Swedish meatballs were total comfort food, with fresh mashed potatoes, fresh lingonberry side and lightly pickled cucumbers. So much food that I could barely finish even though I was ravenous coming in. Super friendly and attentive service in a warm timber ceiling environment, like the inside of a Vermeer painting. Total cost: 261 kronor for a super filing meal in a wonderful environment. Loved it! Update: went back the next day with friends, who in turn liked it so much that they went back by themselves as well a third time! read more

Snuck in here for a late seating-other restaurants wouldn't seat us "so close" to closing time (1.5hrs before closing). The waitress was polite to tell us that there were no more mashed potatoes for the rest of the night before seating to make sure we were okay with that. We were and were seated promptly! We shared Glühwein as we waited for the herring sampler and shrimp roast to share. The herring sampler wasn't for me but I loved the shrimp toast! Next, we had the moose medallions and a bowl of the seafood stew. The moose dish was so unique and plated well, and the broth from the seafood stew was so aromatic and flavorful. The garlic butter that comes with the bread with the stew was so good, I was spreading it on all the starches we had. Super cute restaurant in Gamla Stan, with really friendly and attentive wait staff. read more
A friend recommended this and it was quite tasty. It's a small place (on a cute cobblestone street). They don't take reservations but are very helpful trying to get people seated. We went at an odd time and it was pretty full. The two ladies working were friendly and super efficient. I had to try the Swedish meatballs. I can't compare them to other places but they were good. Tender and moist but so good with the gravy. The mashed potatoes were creamy (guessing lots of butter). The pickles were really good. The sausage was interesting and good. Very smoky flavor. The meat was looser than typical sausage. The mustard was nice and spicy. Overall a cute place with tasty food and great service. read more

Amazing food in old town of Stockholm! If you are travelling, this is a must stop. The meatballs were exquisite. The exact words out of my mouth were "these are the best meatballs I have ever had"! There's no way to make a reservation so be sure to either come early or later into the evening. We arrived at 6pm and there was a line up outside the door by the time we finished. Will for sure stop by here again if we are ever in Stockholm! read more

I had a wonderful dinner here and I highly recommend this place! The wait was out the door (literally) and I was promptly seated, as I was solo and took a tiny table in the back, that wouldn't be occupied otherwise--yet it was the best seat in the house! I had the beet root appetizer and meatballs dish, both delicious and mind blowing. I never imagined that Scandinavian food could be so delicious. Although not a big fan of beer, I tried the house tap beer and it was quite tasty. I can't wait to return to this restaurant with my family and friends! read more
