Could not have loved it more! My 10 (almost 11) year old daughter has gone for 2 weeks this summer and would have gone for more if our schedule allowed. There is the perfect blend of surfing, hanging out, friendship building and beach safety. The morning and afternoon shuttle rides were also a highlight for her. My kiddo came back salty, sandy, tired and talking about a full day of fun! We will def be back next summer. read more

Wonderful surf camp, my kid had a great time, learned the basics of surfing and became a little braver in the water, all in one week. Couldn't have asked for more! My son (age 12) just completed his first week at surf camp. He had a lot of fun, but did not gain surf skills. Ultimately, this is a beach camp. He only had one day when an instructor helped him learn how to get up on a board. I understand there are water conditions that sometimes make this difficult, but he spent most of the time playing in the water body surfing/wave jumping (which he did enjoy). I would give this camp 3.5 stars if I could. If the camp was more organized, and they carved some time out each day to work with the kids on surfing, it would get a higher rating. My son said he was supervised closely by the counselors, the wet suits were high quality, and the shuttle from Mill Valley was convenient. read more

I was disappointed in this "surf" camp. It's a play at the beach camp. There was little to no instruction, and they boogy boarded each day with one day of surfing only. I was at the beach to observe three days and witnessed what my daughter told me each day - Tommy drops them off and then does nothing. Ruby thankfully who was wonderful was in charge of them. Tommy sat on the beach with minimal lift, except to surf by himself occasionally! There were three scorching hot days with no shade structure! They "set up" (dropped gear) closest to the parking lot where they had to walk the furthest from the water over burning hot sand to get a drink. The shade finally went up mid day on Thursday and they finally had shade by Friday- still as far from the water and as close to the parking lot as possible. My daughter's neck is peeling. I witnessed him several times saying that he is "the boss of them" which my independent daughter did not like. His manner is not for all children. He also blamed them for his tardiness - she's 8! How about the adult is responsible for timing. If you want them to surf, get them excited, get involved, teach them - none of the skills listed were carried out. He was full of excuses as to why like the waves weren't good as I watched the other surf camps surfing the whitewash - which is perfectly acceptable every day. He left them in the van while he got water at a store! What?! My daughter who is a nervous backseat driver wished he would stop fully at the stop signs and use his turn signal. She was full of information every day and was not a fan of Tommy in the least. Not as advertised, lazy, and expensive. read more

My 14 year old son greatly enjoyed his time at this camp. It was his first time surfing and he was able to stand up on the board and actually ride waves. I probably would not have sent him if he were younger or didn't have a big group of friends as it sounds to me like you need to be pretty self sufficient in order to enjoy this camp. I dropped him off and picked him up in Mill Valley and love that the camp offers options to enroll by the day. read more

I had both of my kids (10 & 6) in the Stinson Beach Surf Camp for one week and they both had an absolute blast. Tommy's instructors were great with the kids and they kept a watchful eye on everyone. Tommy had loads of good advice for kids and parents and he has a great attitude. We may not make it back to camp this year, but will definitely hit it again in 2018 read more

I went here to Stinson Beach Surf Camp to learn surfing with Tommy. Because of traffic, we were an hour late - but Tommy, like any surfer, was super cool about it and still did the lesson with us. Tommy was a very good instructor, and the waves around the area were nice and gentle for a beginner like me. I highly recommend this place! read more

I wonder if there's another kids surfing camp available? Our experience was okay, not exactly as the website says. Owner: you need to offer EVERYTHING you advertise on your website such as bottled water and t-shirts. If I give you an SPF 50 sunscreen stick, I expect it to be used, then placed with my nephews supplies. If I text you about it, I expect a reply. If I ask about the camp t-shirts, don't ignore and avoid me. (BTW, there were no camp t-shirts) There were positives and good memories for the kids and I don't regret the camp, but I will look for alternatives next year. read more

This review is for a private lesson that was prepurchased via LivingSocial from this business. This business has no idea how to schedule or deal with clients. The first time we scheduled a lesson, and when we showed up in Bolinas, as directed, Tommy was nowhere to be seen and his shop was shuttered. He was off in Stinson Beach covering a lesson for an instructor who had bailed on him and since there's no cell reception on the beach in Bolinas, couldn't get in touch with us (and didn't think to ahead of time... or leave a note on his shop door. Basic stuff). When he finally did show up, we decided to reschedule, and he said he'd email some dates. I never heard from him and so I followed up myself, several times, to get the lesson rescheduled. We finally made a date and as it approached I called to confirm. This time Tommy was at the airport ready to take off to go to a family emergency. Terrible news but again-- why not think to notify your scheduled clients? During this whole multi month saga, I keep getting automated emails from the business asking me to rate the experience, and I write back-- "I'm having a terrible experience with your business, you don't want my review. Please rectify the situation." I've given up on Tommy and the money I prepaid for the lesson i never got. Bottom line is, he may be a good surf instructor, but I'll never find out because he needs an office manager or someone who will answer the phone, make a schedule and stick to it for the benefit of the customers. read more

This surf camp was okay, but we choose not to go back. It is very casual and there could be more instructors. Best for an independent kid. The main guy, Tommy, basically shows up to drop off the wetsuits and greet parents and then takes off. He then returns at the end of the day to take back the wet suits. There are no water bottles or t-shirts given to the campers. I have to wonder how many of the parents actually witnessed camp in action compared to dropping them off/having them take the bus and basing their reviews on the kids' reports. Sorry Tommy, but what you described and promised is not what my kid experienced. No stoke for us. read more

I sen my grandsons to this Surf camp for two years one of my grandsons has a high functioning autism they work really well with him the boys and loved the camp I recommend it ! just being out in nature in the ocean. Doesn't get any better than that read more

My 2 boys (9 and 11) have had a great time at this camp. Tommy (owner) is very funny and helpful west Marin dude. My kids love him. They went for a week last summer and a variety of days this summer. Fair to say they are pretty wiped out after 4 or 5 in days in a row. We live in SF and shuttle them out to Tam Junction where they catch the stagecoach back/forth. They usually have a junior instructor ride the bus with them. It's great to do a fun outdoor camp that can only be done here. They will be back for more. read more

This will be the girls' third year at Stinson Beach Surf Camp, and they consider it a high point of their summer. Tommy and his staff are fantastic, and they treat all of their students, regardless of age or experience, like they are family. They never push them farther then they are comfortable, but are happy to guide them in furthering their skills. We go with a large group of kids, and I often see some of them playing on the shore when they've had enough. On the other hand, my older daughter almost never leaves the water and continues to improve throughout the week. Definitely worthy of 5 stars. read more

This camp is amazing. Tommy and his dedicated crew are great with the kids. My daughter and three friends attended the camp last summer. As a nervous mom, I stayed the first day to make sure the girls were safe. I was instantly assured. His staff teaches ocean safety, as well as surfing. The girls had a fabulous time and my daughter was sad she couldn't attend another session. She is looking forward to next summer! Tommy also donates generously to Marin schools.
