I recently moved to San Francisco, California and have wanted to surf all my life. I found Hokali surf school through Instagram. I checked out their website and watched their pictures and I was really impressed with this surf school! I'm really happy that I booked my first surf lesson with them!! After I shared some information about my surfing needs and goals they introduced me to Ignacio as my private surf instructor. I'm a beginner and my goal is to become a real surfer! From the very beginning, Ignacio was very patience and tried to share all the passion and knowledge that he has for this sport. He is a great instructor! I will definitely recommend a surf lesson with Hokali. The pricing is fair and the gear that they provide you is excellent. Aside from that the location they use is great as well, Pacifica beach is beautiful. There are bathrooms and outdoor showers available. WoW! Where to start? Well I submitted my contact info online requesting for more information and was contacted within the hour. Ignacio was freaking amazing over the phone. He answered all my questions and concerns. I scheduled my first one on one session right away! I have only surfed once in my life and was a little nervous to get started. Ignacio forward me a video to watch before my session and told me not to hesitate to call with any questions. Now it's surfing time. Today I was greeted by my amazing instructor Scotty! Scotty was very patient, professional and just freaking AMAZING! He is your number one fan/cheerleader in the water. I had so much fun and forgot all about my surfing jitters. He helped me build my confidence enough to embrace the waves. Time went by fast cause I was having the time of my life. I never once felt unsafe. Scotty was there by my side the entire time. Where other schools in San Francisco couldn't provide me an intermediate surf level lesson, the guys at Hokali encouraged it! It was an amazing experience and I've been improving my surfing to the next level since I got some lessons with them! I had great experiences taking surf instructions from Ignacio. He is patient, knowledgeable, and friendly. On the beach, Ignacio explained the surf conditions and what to look for in the water. Once in the water, he made sure I went for the best waves and provided helpful feedback on what I did right or could do better. Ignacio takes the time to understand the level at which you are surfing and nudges you comfortably to the next one. As a bonus, Ignacio is a top-notch surfer who has surfed most of the breaks in the SF Bay area. I can't recommend him enough. read more

Wow what an experience!! After finding Hokali through Yelp, me and my 2 friends couldn't have been happier. This was my first time surfing (my two friends were also at similar levels). It was definitely intimidating at first but Ignacio, our instructor, put us at ease in minutes. He taught us the fundamentals and made sure we understood what we needed to focus on both before hitting the waves as well as while we were out there. I couldn't have asked for a better teacher! I had never been surfing before, but I decided to join a group class that Hokali Co was offering with Ignacio on a Sunday morning at Pacifica. He was an amazing coach, extremely clear teaching us the basics of surfing before jumping into the water, and once we were catching waves he was really patient and provided very helpful feedback to each of us. Such a great experience enabled by the best surf instructor!! I set up a lesson with Nacho, the man. During the lesson, he was very good at explaining the basics of surf, which got me on my feet a couple of times. What I enjoyed the most, though, was that besides the technique, he taught me about the lifestyle of a surfer, which I loved. Took a beginner's lesson with Ignacio and it was an amazing experience. We warmed up, practiced the basics outside of the water and then jumped in. With some help and constant feedback I was able to go a bit deeper into the ocean and stand on the board for a few waves. I've already seen coach Ignacio one more time to keep the practice going.
