Anyone in the Bay Area wanting to get into surfing but doesn't know where to start, I've found the perfect spot !! This only being my 2nd time surfing, I wanted structure and guidance that would help me solidify my foundational knowledge, while also keeping me safe in the NorCal waters. We started our group lesson out of the water (about 15min), learning the basics to make sure everyone felt comfortable. The staff were awesome. They were so friendly and supportive, making sure to meet each person where they were at, and tailoring their teaching to each persons specific skill level. Wetsuits and surfboards were included in the lesson, which was really nice to not have to worry about the equipment aspect of learning a new sport. Everything felt really high quality, from the equipment, to the staff teaching. I can't recommend Tommy Tsunami enough :) read more

Love this school! My friend and I had a great time taking the private lesson which was slightly more pricy than the group class. However it was totally worth it! Surfing is fun and safe with the school as a beginner, since instructor would look for the right waves for you before launching you to surfing. The only downside is that there wasn't any place to shower and clean up, so you would need to find a hotel nearby to shower if you are visiting nearby. Love it! read more

I booked a private lesson for my husband and me - first timers. Scheduling a lesson was easy and we were able to schedule something really quick! Tommy was really responsive and gave us clear instructions of what to expect, parking (thank you!), etc. The lesson itself was great for us beginners. Tommy went through basic motions and safety on sand, then we were in the water! He took us out individually and coached us to catch a few waves. Tommy was super knowledgeable, patient, and positive. On top of this, we felt very safe in the water. You can really tell that Tommy has a passion for what he does which made the experience even better - the time flew by and we had a great time! The lesson fee for private lesson is well worth it - it included surfboard and wetsuit rental as well. The location was great too for beginners. Also, in the time of COVID, rest assured that all rented gear was clean and safe. We definitely plan to go back to learn and practice more. Tommy Tsunami was a really good surfing lesson. I took the group lesson, there were 3 of us total, there's at most 4:1 student to instructor ratio so you get a lot of attention from the instructors. I tried surfing with friends prior to this with little luck and by the end of this lesson I was able to stand up and "ride" the wave. So did the other 2 people in my group who never surfed before. The instructor was very nice and incredibly supportive. The waves were around 1-2ft so perfect for beginner lesson. Overall, I had a really good time, it was an excellent lesson and I'm definitely going to take another lesson in a couple weeks. Highly recommended! read more

Had a great time surfing during a private lesson with Peter the other day! It was my second lesson so I already knew how to stand up on the board, and Peter was very helpful -- I feel he really got me to the next level where I can practice on my own now. Of course I will be back to Tommy's to continue to improve and learn new things. Peter helped me catch waves, but he also let me get some on my own. I really feel that I made a big improvement in a short hour and a half. My boyfriend and I recently had a surfing lesson with this company! As soon as we walked up Peter was extremely friendly and approachable with knowing our names without ever meeting us! It's those little things that go a long way! Our instructor was Kianna, she is absolutely amazing! Great at instructing, keeping it very clear and fun! We both were able to catch several waves, with us both being able to catch one on our own and even able to ride one in together! I would highly recommend this company as well as Kianna personally! We booked our lesson about 3 weeks in advance; it was really easy to coordinate with Tommy and he sent along helpful advice on what to bring and where to meet in advance.
