On my drive home from Westbrook, I stopped by Still Delicious because I was in the mood for something sweet. Still Delicious is a family owned bakery, they specialize in allergen free baked goods. Even though I don't have any allergies to ingredients typically founds in cookies and bread, I still appreciate that they are available to those who are. It is very small inside, it doesn't appear that they have any seating available. It's more of an order and go type of place. The gentleman working here told me his name was Mark. He was very friendly, and told me about some of the products. The Whoopi Pies looked very tempting. I decided to go with the cookie/brownie combo. It has a proper name, but it's escaping me right now. This is a brownie on the bottom and a cookie on the top. Oh I couldn't wait to dig in! This was just under $6.00. The cookie is soft with chocolate bits, under it is more chocolate goodness with the brownie layer! Yum! I sat in my car and enjoyed each bite! The chocolate wasn't melty or gooey, this was still very fresh, soft and to me pretty unique. I would love to try more from Still Delicious! I am gluten free, my husband is not, and we both love Still Delicious, which is a dedicated GF bakery in Westbrook, CT. It offers plenty of dairy free and vegan options as well. Mark is the owner and a pleasure to deal with. He is passionate about what he does and always takes the time to discuss what he makes and offers suggestions. I don't think there is anything I haven't tried there. My absolute favorites are the muffins (all varieties), the rustica baguettes, the whoopie pies, the half cookie/brownies and the mini loafs (all varieties). My husband will no longer eat regular muffins and panics when we don't have any Still Delicious muffins left in our freezer. We basically buy big batches and freeze them so we always have them on hand. He also can't get enough of the whoopie pies. That's his favorite dessert. There is always plenty of delicious baked goods available at Still Delicious but since it's a small bakery, I like pre-ordering since I always buy bigger quantities. I learned of this place from a large annual vegan festival where Still Delicious has been a vendor for at least two years in a row. I was under the impression Still Delicious is an entirely vegan bakery, which they are not. I don't make it out to Westbrook often, but when I was out there about two weeks ago, I Googled them on my phone to learn they were 0.2 miles away. When I pulled in, I read the sign out front and that's when I learned they aren't entirely vegan. I walked in and was delighted to find they have seating! I can only remember one other bakery I've ever been in that had seating. I immediately asked about the vegan options and the friendly gentleman behind the counter showed them to me. There weren't many. Vegan whoopie pies, vegan cookiebrownie lava cake thingies, some bags of chocolate chip cookies, and a lone cupcake. I immediately claimed the lone cupcake, a cookiebrownie cake thing, and a chocolate whoopie pie. I ate almost everything in my car as soon as I exited the bakery, saving only the whoopie pie for later. Today I was in the area, less than a half mile away, so I stopped by Still Delicious again. I asked what vegan options there were today, and again not many. Whoopie pies, cookiebrownies, and bags of chocolate chip cookies. There may have been something else I am forgetting. I bought a vanilla whoopie pie and gobbled it up in my car immediately. The pie was $6, but I suppose that's about what you might expect for a vegan whoopie pie. They are not easy to find. It was big and delicious! On the one hand it was amazing to stop in and and be able to grab a vegan dessert, on the other hand, they need more vegan options! Or better yet, why not go all vegan? You can order vegan items ahead of time, which is great. I'm not sure if there are minimum quantities, or if they can veganize everything they offer, but it's worth looking into. Sad to say I was pretty disappointed with my experience here. I was a first time customer and stopped by during COVID-19. I was making a quick stop for breakfast before taking a long road trip. I was pleased to see that they weren't letting people inside as a safety measure, and were taking orders outside. This was fine, but they didn't have a menu available. The person helping me, who I believe is the owner, rattled off a few menu items, and was clearly disgruntled that I was unprepared. I had to ask a lot of follow up questions just to understand what my food choices were. I wasn't told a price per item either. I ordered a slice of pumpkin bread and a scone. The man disappeared into the store, came out with the baked goods, handed them to me, and after I took them, he held out his hand for payment saying the total would be $15. I was shocked that two baked goods cost that much. I was expecting somewhere in the $6-10 range for 2 items. But since we're in the pandemic and I was already holding the food, I sighed and handed over my card. Let me tell you, when I tried them later, I was very disappointed. The baked goods were not worth the price. They were mediocre and I was very unhappy with the quality at the price point I was charged. Well to wrap up my interaction at the store, after I paid, the man came back with my card and told me that next time I should order online. Since I was a first time customer, I didn't know they wouldn't allow customers to look at the bakery case inside. I thought his response was terse, a bit rude and unwelcoming. I found this bakery at an event in Madison. I purchased the carrot cake. Moist, flavorfull and still delscious. I met baker/owner (?) and found her knowledgeable and very aware of food allergies. I do not have any but do watch what I eat and how product is sourced. I will make an effort to find this store when I travel that way in CT. Check this out. This is THE place to go if you have celiac or even slight gluten allergies. So many places try to make breads, bagels, desserts, etc but you know there's always something not quite right when it comes to the crunch of a bread, the elasticity of a good bagel or the texture of a great cake. This place ROCKS! We found it through a Google search and decided to visit today. I have multiple allergies that make it extremely difficult to find any sort of food that isn't a whole food (plain fruit, plain vegetable, plain meat, etc). That means no treats. No muffins, pizza, bread, cake, etc. It's been a sad existence for the past 9 years! Then, enter Still Delicious. And oh. my. lanta. Firstly, the premises is so clean, and so bright and welcoming. They have clear glass walls in the entry way so you can see right into the kitchen prep area as well as where the ovens are. Everything is sparkly clean and neat. Check out how they store their kitchen gadgets in the corner. Everything has a place. Everything is useful and shiny and clean. Marie Kondo would be proud. Then, you approach the small counter right as you walk in, and it's loaded with so many goodies. Cupcakes and whoopie pies in the case, muffins, breads, quick breads and cookies to the side of it. Kombucha and coffee available for purchase as well. They color coordinate their offerings through a colored twist tie system, which coincides with a sign right there at the counter. Red, Blue, Green, etc all stand for things like "Vegan" or "Dairy Free" or "Corn Free". It's SO easy to pick out what is safe for your personal eating style. If that wasn't enough, the owner/operator (Mark, I believe) is such a nice man, and offers up a wealth of information about his products. He knows everything about everything and you can tell he has really done his research. He knows all about the hidden sources of gluten, corn, eggs, etc in food products. He avoids them. He knows how to substitute ingredients to match your needs. If there is something you need, you can custom order it. Tell him, and he will make it for you! The offerings are also stellar. You know how gluten free food can taste "off"? Not here. The muffins are INCREDIBLE and moist and delicious. I got a box of 6 carrot cake cupcakes, and here I am at home, guarding them with my life. No one's gonna be swiping these babies from me, no sir. They might just lose a finger. He also has frozen pizza crusts available too, and gives samplings of his baked goods freely. "Try it!"... the words of a man confident in his craft. And he should be confident! He has a real talent and has perfected his baking. I also hear they do birthday and wedding cakes... cakes that LOOK and TASTE like real cake! If you don't have allergies, you won't know why I'm so excited, but if you DO have allergies, then you just *know*. You know the struggle. You know the sad offerings that we get to choose from. I find the prices to be outrageous. I am a skilled baker, but stopped by one weekend when I had company coming (one of the guests couldnt eat dairy). I just didn't feel like adapting one of my recipes so I popped in. I was so shocked when they rang me up, but was too embarrassed to ask to put items back. They should consider labeling their items in the cases and on display so other people aren't caught off guard as I was. Of course I know many of these ingredients are expensive so yes, these items should cost more than their counterparts, but twenty bucks for four brownie thingies is just silly. What's sillier is that I paid for it! My house guest, a former chef, was impressed and appreciative, so it's not like their products aren't good. They are good. But the cost is prohibitive to me. I came across this place on my way to getting my nails done one day. Having and living with celiac disease has really been hard for me. Growing up in a huge Italian family, I miss my pasta, my pizza, and of course....pastries! Nothing gluten free I've tried was worth the calories.....until, I tried this place! My first time there, the owner was extremely kind and we talked for a while. He recommended some things and since I went there hungry, I bought A LOT!! So far, since then I've ordered numerous times and have never been disappointed! I've tried the scones, cupcakes, donuts, eclairs, cream puffs, cookies, and the AMAZING WHOOPIE PIES!!! I have even had my birthday cake made here! This place just made me so happy. It feels so good to have dessert again....dessert I actually enjoy and that are so worth the calories!!!! This place is way under rated. The location is great and the treats are even better. I stopped in on my way to work to grab a little something for a coworkers birthday. I opted for two dairy free cupcakes. She told me they were amazing and would pop in to purchase more. I also bought some cookies while I was there. I work at a salon down the road and we do offer our clients treats and beverages. Before I could blink the cookies were gone. I will be back to get more snacks. Whenever we travel we look for new gluten free places to try and we are so happy we were able to try Still Delicious before leaving town. The owner is so friendly and welcoming, coming off a holiday weekend he was still baking everything for the day ahead, but he stopped to walk us through all the ingredients, what was safe for us (multiple food allergies), how to store and reheat things. We bought everything we could see - bread, rolls, cupcakes, muffins! He helped us pack it up w ice packs for the long trip home and carry it all out the car! Lastly, I really appreciate their commitment to customers and staff wearing masks. It's really hard to find places safe for kids too young to be vaccinated, where you know masks will be consistently used, and my daughter really enjoyed getting to come inside and have the whole bakery experience! My husband and I really wanted to have a wedding cake option for our friends with dairy, soy, corn, nut, and gluten allergies. And wow, did Still Delicious deliver! My sister (who has a dairy allergy) and I went to visit the bakery, and Mark (the proprietor) gave us some really amazing samples to try. They use coconut cream which makes the cakes fluffy and gives it amazing frosting! We bought a small cake from Mark for our wedding and our guests with allergies/food restrictions were really happy with it. This place offers some great products that are offered in many local restaurants. However...I have been to the store twice first time I bought pizza dough, Whoopee pies, cookies and a couple muffins. Nothing has a labeled price. It ended up costing quite a bit however I figured because of the ingredients that's to be expected. The second time I went they hardly had any gluten free, dairy free options, the ones they did have I purchased... they once again had no prices... and I ended up paying 16 dollars for 2 muffins 4 cookies.
