Went for a late lunch on a Tuesday. The vibe was casual & comfy. I ordered spring rolls & General Tso Chicken. Hubby ordered Pad Thai & Pork Egg Rolls. Spring rolls were huge & fresh, with lots of shrimp and red spicy pork in addition to the usual veggies. I could have eaten them all afternoon. Egg rolls were tasty, hot & crisp. General Tso wasn't the usual "candied chicken" type that I'm used to. This came in a much lighter, much less sticky sweet sauce, and the chicken pieces were crispy without being over-breaded. I actually left feeling I'd had a healthy meal, and it was soo delicious too! Hubby's Pad Thai dish was HUGE & as delicious as any Pad Thai anywhere. Service was exceptional. Our sever was friendly, efficient & attentive. We were treated very well. Lunch is a good time for a first visit. They have a really nice budget menu. This is my new go-to for the spicy fix. I only get one dish from here, but it's damn near therapeutic. I get really grumpy and stressed out when I don't eat something with a significant amount of heat, and Sticky Rice really pulled through with their Lao curry on the 20/10 (Lao spicy) spice scale. Exhilarating heat, without sacrificing the flavor. Cabbage and chicken provide a good amount of texture that is missing in my other spice fixes offered from Kohinoor or Himalayan Chimney, while the rich broth come together with the chili pepper spice to deliver a dish that has become my newest addiction. Get the jasmine rice side so you can mop up all that goodness in the broth. Leave nothing behind. read more

I think they might consider changing the name to "White Rice," since that was the only part of the meal that was done well. We ordered a beef stirfry, which tasted like the beef had been in the fridge/freezer a little too long. We tried the spring rolls, which came with a watery sauce tinge with a hint of peanut butter flavor. We tried a thai salad and a tom yum soup. All of the food was spicy, in a good way, but the flavors were just not there. It wasn't bland, exactly, but, rather, off somehow. The package arrived giving off a bad smell...fish sauce, we thought, tends not to smell as good as it tastes...but that wasn't it. It didn't make us sick or anything, it just didn't taste very good. Delicious! I think this place has really mastered their flavor combinations. Everything pairs perfectly and tastes very different from dish to dish. I always try to share dishes with people for this reason. My favorite has to be the duck soup, it's so flavorful and tender! The pricing is very reasonable and the portions are quite large. I recommended saving room for dessert, their coconut ice cream over custard and sticky rice is to die for. Can't wait to come back and continue trying different items of their menu. read more

Also, the broth could have a little more depth compared to other places in town. However, it was a huge bowl for $10.00 and I couldn't finish it. Lovely basil branch very fragrant and delicious. Never really get a chance to try Laotian food so had to try this place! Service was great -- waiter was really friendly and helpful. He recommended the Loa Curry and the Papaya Salad. Loa Curry was really good. As for papaya salad, I thought it it was a little too salty (too much fish sauce). Also got a side of sticky rice with it and if you dip it with the sauce it's pretty good. Though, I would have rather got a meat with the salad instead of the rice. I think it would have tied the dish together better. But you HAVE TO try the mango sticky rice!!! I finally made it to Sticky Rice after a week of attempting to go. Of course it's me and the kid on our food adventures, looking to try a new place.. The atmosphere was very inviting and intimate and we were greeted by a wonderful young lady with a great personality and huge smile. We got there during a break between the lunch and dinner rushes so we had extra attention given to us. There is something on the menu for everyone: meat, seafood and vegetarian offerings. For appetizers, we tried the veggie rolls and the shrimp in a blanket. The rolls were light and airy, fresh and delicious with every smoking hot bite. The shrimp were a tasty fried surprise and a lot for the price. I tried the chicken pho. The broth was fresh, clean tasting, and flavored superbly. The amounts of noodles, chicken, onion, and veggies were excellently balanced. The bowl was huge! I also tried the pepper steak with veggies and jasmine rice. OMG! Absolute food heaven in a single bite. The steak and veggies were marinated and perfectly cooked then lightly sauced. The kid had the sweet and sour chicken in a housemade sauce. The veggies and pineapple (yum!) were in a wonderful mix with a generous helping of lightly breaded and fried chunks of chicken. We had such a wonderful experience at Sticky Rice! After a long day of travel we called from our hotel to order take out. When we arrived we realized that they had a patio that would accommodate our family of 5 and our dog so we asked if we could eat out there instead. Even though they had our take out all packed up they took it back to the kitchen and plated it up to serve us on the patio. The food was wonderful (all 3 of my picky kids were happy) and the staff was so friendly and accommodating, the owner even came out to welcome us and tell us a bit about the place. This place is great for authentic Thai and Laotian cuisine. The Panang Curry and Red Curry are extremely flavorful and delicious; the Pad Thai is moist, sweet, and savory. The appetizers were okay -- nothing we ate was bland. Lastly, the best part of the entire meal was the Sticky Rice with Mango and Coconut Ice Cream -- a warm, cold, and sweet treat to finish off a delicious dinner! The Khao Poon was fire. Good flavor, comforting and hearty dish. Came to try this with my family who was visiting from out of town and this place was perfect. This place was pretty good! I thought the restaurant had a weird smell, but I got used to it. Cucumber salad wasn't sweet enough. The pad Thai was mediocre and came in a big portion. Pad se ew was pretty good but needed more flavor. The service was GREAT the servers kept asking if everything was good and refilled water fast. I love the fact that Champaign finally got a Laotian restaurant. I have only had their Tom Yum, Tom Kha, and Khao Poon (Lao curry). All of which I highly recommend! I have eaten at every Thai restaurant in champaign-urbana and this one takes the prize on all major dishes. I really appreciate the diversity and freshness of their ingredients which is something I find lacks in many other popular Thai restaurants. It also seems very authentic, although I have never been to Thailand or Laos to confirm this suspicion. If your in town, give this place a shot you won't regret it! read more
