Huge disappointment. Shop was tiny with very little inventory to look at. The young-ish woman who showed herself a couple of minutes after I came in seemed annoyed that I was there. I went in for rough rocks for tumbling and she showed me a shoebox lid filled with crap I could have picked up off the ground myself. They had a few nice gems in the cabinets, which she clearly didn't want to show me. There was a nice pink Tourmaline single gem I inquired about. She couldn't tell me the dimensions, the carat weight or country of origin. The price was definitely high at $1200 for a gem likely just over 2 carats. I wouldn't go back and I'd suggest others look for a better gem/roch shop in the area. read more

I came looking for some souvenir gems for friends and family. The staff were very friendly and informative and it was very quiet inside. I was recommended some astrology stones, but was a bit disappointed in their selection because there weren't many left and out of all the stones in the store there were actually only two rocks/gems that I was told were local to the state - the Star Garnet and Bruneau Jasper. The Star Garnet necklaces were ~$14. The Bruneau Jasper was more expensive with the rocks smaller or around the size of my first being ~$20-30, and then the ones that were larger paperweight sizes going up to $100 and more. Considering I had recently been to the Bruneau Sand Dunes, I would have paid more attention to admire the rocks if I knew they were so valuable. There's another rock shop nearby (Idaho Rocks and Gems) that I didn't get to check out, but was told they would probably have a more casual selection. This gem shop seems to specialize in jewels whereas Idaho Rocks and Gems nearby might be better for rock hobbyists who also want to go rockhounding together. read more

Although I have not visited the shop for many years, I was there to see it's beginnings as our family were good friends of Dudley, Alberta. Their son and daughter were my playmates on many occasions. Mr. Stewart had a small room in his home where he cut and polished stones, watching him work was always fascinating. Mr. Stewart was my first Scoutmaster until we moved to the east coast in 1944. It is gratifying to see how the the shop has grown and the success it enjoys. It was hard earned and the reputation it enjoys is well deserved. Quality people, quality stones, quality work. The days you need a little gem stone shopping, I found Stewart's Gem Shop to be a very cute, lovely, "mama and papa vibe." Stewart's gem shop has a great gem/crystal options. I went in not expecting to purchase.(Don't we all!) The lady makes sure that if you have any questions or concerns that she will try her best and she knows her knowledge about gems. I got my amethyst and green malachite and they are wonders! They had my watch for three months looking for a new band. When I called again they told me it was repaired and ready to pick up. When I picked it up I was charged ten dollars. I left and later discovered it had not been fixed. I was very disappointed. Not a good way to run a business. read more

We were super excited to go to the store to have a couple thunder eggs cut. We called ahead of time to ask if this was a service they offered and they told us yes. Then we asked if we needed an appointment and they said no just come in anytime. But upon entering the store the reception was not as friendly. We took my nieces who are 9 & 11 and very interested in rocks. We gave them our rocks and were told it would be 15-20 for them to cut them. We said great. Then the sales girl told us in an extremely snotty tone that we could leave the store and come back. I had every intention of buying a few crystals or other things and looking while we waited. We ended up standing in the parking lot waiting for them to be done. For a small locally owned shop I expected the customer service to be better. HUGH DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!!! read more

I recently visited this shop to have a ring repaired. The quote was $170. When I picked the ring up three weeks later, the cost had increased to $598, due to the unexpected cost of the material. That is understandable, but I NEVER received a call to let me know that the cost was 3.5x higher than the original estimate. The ring is nice to have back, but every time I look at it I'm reminded of the shock and financial set back I experienced. So +2 stars for the work and -3 for customer service. I was pretty excited to have my piece of morrisonite jasper dome polished, and it was my intention to carve a hardwood display stand when it was finished, so I could display it with some of my other gem stones. After a few months time I hadn't heard back from the shop, so I called to inquire about the progress. The lady who answered the phone told me it probably was not finished because "he's never here" but they "usually call" when an item is finished. After more than 6 months, (literally) I drove to Boise to pick up my stone, and have someone else do the job. I was tired of waiting, but no hard feelings. When I got there the young lady at the counter said "it's finished", "I guess no one called you", but when she brought it out, I was aghast at the horrible job that was done. Not only did they not dome polish the side with the most surface area (as stipulated on my receipt) they took one flat slice off about half the stone, on the back side, and apparently slapped it on a lap wheel for a few minutes, to make it look like someone worked on it. The back side was full of bugs, and voids, it looks like c.r. a. p. with a capitol C! And the solid side with the nice curve and solid stone was left untouched. I paid the bill, (which was $10.00 less than they had quoted me), because I didn't want to be a jerk, but I feel ripped off. I am very unhappy. My rock project was ruined, it was not what I was promised, and I wish someone would have cared enough to do a good job for me. I know a little bit about polishing jasper, I just don't have my own equipment, so I thought Stewards gem shop would be the best place around. I trusted them with my gemstone project, and they really let me down. Buyer beware! I feel like they are arrogant, and uncaring, and that my job was not important enough to bother with.
