This is an excellent christian school which our kids need and their education is amazing. Its a safe, loving and God fearing environment who put God, the kids and education as a top priority. To those who read Laurie M. review she is a complusive liar with major anger issues. She reviewed them negatively because the school wouldnt force me to leave a parking spot so she can have it. Which sounds crazy but it is the truth. She lied about the pastor and the staff whom she only met once to ask him to make me move and calls everyone ignorant when she doesnt get her way. Clearly she has serious anger issues and needs Jesus. Today she blocked me in forcing me to contact the school to talk to her. I am glad her son is in 8th grade graduating so I dont have to deal with her next year. If she would have asked me like a normal person to please move and explained why, I would have, instead she flipped me off and blocked me with her car. Again please do not let her post steer you in the wrong direction if you are looking for a Christian school to put your young kids in. However, at Riverside, the teachers (instead of doing their job to create lesson plans, which is what they were supposed to be doing) choose to monitor the prep teacher and curriculum. What I've observed at Riverside is that the teachers lack classroom management skills, and instead, yell and intimidate. They are not teachers. They are bullies. They bully students and teach bullying as a role model. I actually saw Ms Hayworth say, "because you are bad, I will not teach." I heard a teacher say to the class, "You embarrass me." Ms Benda also ostracized a boy by making him sit apart from the rest of the class. This student told me "I want to kill myself." When it was reported, the teachers and principal said, 'he just wants attention." Ms Benda said, "I could choke you!" to a teacher who had told her class they would get out early before she had the chance to tell them. If you are a parent, beware of teachers Benda, Wong, and Hayworth. If your child has one of these for a teacher, you may want to sit in or help out to see how they function.

Saint Mary's is Albany's other High School, although the main entrance is on the other side of Codonices Creek in Berkeley. None of my kids went to school here, although I have been on their pretty, green, and 7 building campus several times. My most notable experience involved Leo, a now departed orange tabby cat that decided to run away from home, and take up residence at St. Mary's. In fact, when I found him, he was hanging out under a tree and holding court with a few students. After I took him back home, the school called to make sure that he was OK and to tell me that the kids really missed him! He was a great cat.

I graduated from Saint Mary's in 2006. Wow how time flies. With each passing year, I realize how…read moremagnificently special that school was. I danced, played softball, tennis, basketball and volleyball. I loved AP US History and struggled mightily with Calculus (followed in my older brother's footsteps). I also went surf camping in San Diego, and skiing and snowboarding in Tahoe while staying in a cabin my teacher made by hand. There was so much opportunity and goodness all around. Saint Mary's is diverse, loving and inclusive in all the best possible ways. I treasure my time there. The teachers especially stood out to me; they cared so much for all of us. I'm grateful I had the opportunity to spread my wings amongst that true forward-thinking, open-minded, open-hearted community. This school epitomizes the magic of the Bay Area to me. It is so real and so aware. How very lucky I am to have called it my school.
