I have several piercings, and this was by far my worst experience. This review comes late as my…read moresister is looking to pierce her ears, and when she suggested this location, I warned her to absolutely not come here and realized I should warn others as well. This experience is from a couple years ago, but I've been told that they still use the same outdated practices. This warning is applicable to everyone, but especially if you are a POC. Firstly, they use piercing guns. If you don't know, piercing guns are NOT safe and cannot be 100% sterilized, in addition to simply being a more painful, forceful piercing that will take much longer to heal. I have gotten my ear lobes pierced by a legitimate piercing place with only a few weeks heal time. At Piercing Pagoda, my ear lobes swelled, bruised, and took 6+ months to heal with careful care. I learned after following their aftercare instructions for months, that their aftercare instructions have been disproven and actively recommended AGAINST for years and years by both piercing and medical professionals. They will tell you to turn your piercings at least once a day. Absolutely do NOT do this, as it will aggravate your piercing and allow more bacteria to enter the site. I learned the hard way. Additionally, since they use a piercing gun, you are pierced with the jewelry that stays in your ear until healed. Because of this, they can't use a screw-on back, which is much more suitable for new piercings. Instead, they use a lock back, which seems reasonable until you have to take it off. It took 3 people to painfully remove my lock backs when my piercings finally healed. Lock backs are horrible and extremely difficult to remove. The jewelry they used is also smaller than standard earrings, so I had to essentially resize my piercings myself, with normal-sized jewelry. You can't see that the piercing is small with your naked eye, but you can absolutely tell the difference when normal earrings won't fit in your healed piercings. (I have other piercings and have never had this experience, so I know it's a size issue, not a fresh piercing issue. I waited long after my lobes healed to remove and replace anyway.) Lastly, the service was so so horrible. I wish I left a review as soon as I got this piercing so I could guarantee this employee still worked here. My mom brought me here to get my ears pierced as a present and was so excited. However, the interactions with an older lady employee were so negative, I could see my mom just shrink. When we approached, this lady did not even look at us, although I saw her jovially interacting with every other customer who approached, before, during, and after our interaction. The only difference was that we are not white. The entire time this woman spoke to my mother, she did not look her in the eyes. My mom has an accent but is completely understandable in English, even to a child who has never heard her accent. Even if she wasn't, a decent person would have the respect to speak directly to the person and try to understand without making faces. But the employee spoke to my mother through me: "Which one does she want?" "How will she be paying?" These are some very obvious examples, but her attitude the entire time was just extremely rude and sent the message that she wanted us to leave as quickly as possible. I wish so badly that I had the maturity and confidence at the time to call out this blatantly racist behavior and just leave, but as a teenager I didn't. I hope that employee has been fired since then or management immediately knows who I'm talking about. The younger employee with her never called her out either, but I know she saw and heard it. This location needs basic customer service and bystander training, to say the least.
