Dr. Schram is an excellent Chiropractor. I had numerous adjustments with him and also left extremely happy.

I saw Dr David Allen, MD in the early 1990s when in Santa Monica. The situation resolved itself and I did not get acupuncture for 27 years. Well now I'm 47 and in the throes of Perimenopause. The jerks at Blue Cross Blue Shield don't want to cover my HRT and I still haven't gotten the script for the stupid thing they want me to try first. Special place in hell for health insurance companies, whose entire goal in life is to refuse treatment in the hopes that you will give up. Anyone who knows me--or reads me--knows I don't give up. If they gave out Olympic medals for "beating a dead horse," I'd be the Michael Phelps of the sport. I went in for Perimenopausal fatigue. My hot flashes are minor and intermittent. But I'm SO low energy. The PMS goes on for months and you don't bleed. It's like hormonal blue b****. The worst. I met an older woman at a Humane Society cocktail party fundraiser in the UN building on the 30th floor in a crazy beautiful apartment with views, marble, and a grand piano. I was shvitzing and she told me to see Dr S. That was a year ago or more but then I took a vitamin that seemed to work well--until it didn't. I've only been twice but I feel better. Acupuncture is just good all around. I'm so relaxed after a session, I feel like a washed down a gin martini with a couple of Ativan. It's too early to tell if this will really be a viable solution to perimenopause but Dr S is reasonably priced (chiro in Manhattan is highway robbery, which is how I found LIC Chiropractic, which is wonderful). I was surprised at his rates, especially given the office is so beautiful and in such a lovely location (Murray Hill, two blocks East of the 28th Street station on the 6 train). There's a good deli by the subway (Bagels and Shmear with great breakfast specials and wraps plus yummy cupcakes). I have been two weeks in a row and will settle into a twice a month schedule. Dr S is a real New Yorker. We chatted about why there's nowhere else to live and why New York is the best. I wish you could give 6 stars. (You do hear other patients because it's a chopped up floor-through of brownstone but there is beautiful art everywhere, some of it for sale in the waiting room, and I don't mind. The needles are so relaxing, I zone out in spite of the chatter.) read more

Dr. Scrham really is the best chiropractor I've ever had. I was experiencing moderate-to-severe neck, shoulder, back, and tailbone pain for months before I first visited him, and after just a few weekly sessions, the pain was all but gone. A few months after that first visit, I feel right as rain. I also like that (if you're open to it) he can incorporate other healing modalities into the chiropractic session (for example, a short meditation to help relieve tailbone pain). I've already recommended one friend to him, and will continue to recommend others. Someday, I hope to try to his acupuncture services, too! read more

I woke up one morning with intense pain in my right bicep from overuse and strain in yoga. Not knowing what to do, I first thought of making an appointment with my doctor, but called my yoga instructor instead. I first went to Dr. Schram about 5 years ago for lower back pain. I have never had back pain before and since I've never had any experiences with a chiropractor, I was a bit hesitant to go to one... however my coworker convinced me that I needed some help. I did some quick research for a doctor that accepted my insurance nearest to my office... and luckily that's how I found Dr. Schram. He was able to pinpoint the exact problem and helped relieve the pain that same day. He was patient and answered all my questions which made me feel comfortable and confident in his experience . I went for a few more adjustments over the next few weeks for maintenance. 6 weeks ago, I went back to Dr. Schram for the worst stiff neck pain and spasms I have ever had. I was back to normal in about a week, and I believe with the regular adjustments I'll be able to minimize or even eliminate neck problems in the future. Never having been to a chiropractor I was cautious and skeptical. I took an appointment with Dr. Schram on the recommendation from a friend I have known for 25 years. I had a herniated disc in my back which was pinching a nerve and causing two of my fingers to be numb. It was painful and annoying after a month of just plain suffering, I went to see Dr. Schram. After a few visits it was fixed . Well after the first visit it was pretty much gone. I still don't love the idea of going to be "adjusted" but when you need a healer I am pretty confidant in this guy. He really cares about making people better. read more

EXCELLENT CHIROPRACTOR AND ACCUPUNCTURIST I had a shoulder injury and saw a doctor who prescribed physical therapy. I went for three rounds over nine months. I tried to do the exercises at home that the physical therapist suggested. At the end of the third round of physical therapy I asked her if she thought I would get better and she said probably not. I resigned myself to Not being able to to swim or do hula dancing. A few months later my friend persuaded me to try her chiropractor. Within one month of one session a week I was 90% back to normal with restored range of motion. Now I'm 99% healed. He is wonderful for all my occasional back pain. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Schram for over 3 years now and I love going there. He is smart and knows what he is doing and has many different approaches. I can usually get in when I need to and on short notice and he has also turned me on to some things that I had been scared of due to bad experiences in the past such as acupuncture. He also is not one of those chiropractors and acupuncturists that say western medicine is terrible. He will encourage you to try many different things and is never forceful. I saw Dr. Schramm recently and though arrogance is nothing new in the medical field, his unprofessional manner and boundary issues are a concern. A woman should not have to ask for a gown when told to take off her shirt. If the woman asks for a gown, one should be given without question. Instead Dr. Schramm said he "assumed I was wearing a bra" so.. that I had to ask again. This should not be a conversation in any medical setting, traditional or alternative. When I left the office, Dr. Schramm put his arm around my waist as if he were my boyfriend. This totally creeped me out! As for the treatment? I had to ask for things I should do on my own. Should I take anti-inflammatories? Should I stretch it? Should I apply ice? Seemed he didn't care what I did. (and this was BEFORE I asked for a gown). One last thing. When he adjusted me there was usually a pop. When there wasn't a pop he still said "good, got it". Is that right? Didn't seem he got it to me. The staff is nice, the office is nice, and I did have some short term improvement from the ultrasound treatment. read more

I went to see Dr. Schram based on a recommendation from a friend. I had right hip and glute tightness that was causing me almost constant pain while sitting. I had tried an Orthopedic doctor who misdiagnosed me with a lower back injury and I spent about 18 months in physical therapy and personal recovery chasing the wrong issue. Within minutes of my first appointment with Dr. Schram, he was able to correctly diagnose the root cause simply by listening to my story and then finding and pressing down on the source of tightness (he seems to have a gift for finding the right spot). From then on, it was a series of sessions where he worked and gradually loosened the entire area. I can say that in about seven or eight appointments the pain was down to almost 0%. This is incredible considering I could not sit for longer than one hour previously! I wish I knew of him long ago, but I'm glad that I was finally able to get it resolved and that I can always go back if it flares up again. I would highly recommend! read more

Yeah, not so impressed. Went to see this guy over the course of about 6 weeks. Over a dozen adjustments in all. He seemed really unengaged about my pain/ progress, never bothered to take an x-ray, told me to get on pain killers and--this is what really did it--he checks his email and his Apple stock WHILE doing adjustments. I've gone to him for everything from a hurt lower back and jammed wrist to exhaustion and sinus problems. He fixes the root of the problem, not the symptoms. I also want to respond to the review written by Dylan f., who says Dr. Schram told him to get on pain killers and that he checked his Apple stock during adjustments. I saw Dr. Schram after dealing with a hamstring injury for over a year. My yoga teacher recommended him and said he specialized in yoga injuries. Dr. Schram claims to lead an ethical and compassionate practice. I did not find this to be true. I saw Dr. Schram five times in weekly appointments. Each week, he saw me for about 10-15 minutes, which surprised me because I've seen chiropractors before who saw me for hour long sessions, but I decided to trust in my teacher's recommendation and Dr. Schram's confidence that he would be able to help me. After each adjustment, he had me stand and say if I felt a difference, to which I often said "yes" because I felt put on the spot. I told him that seeing a doctor not covered by insurance was a financial hardship for me, especially after all the time and money I'd already spent on this injury. He said that now I was "spending my money wisely", that this would be the treatment that would finally work. He explained that sometimes it takes many appointments, but eventually I would find relief. I trusted this, despite the fact that all I felt after the first four appointments was slight, temporary relief that was usually gone in a day or two. On the fifth visit, Dr. Schram asked if I felt any improvement. I answered honestly that I did not. He had me remind him of the nature of my injury (torn hamstring attachment and stress fracture in IT bone) and again describe the other treatments I had tried. While describing this, I started tearing up--it has been a long, frustrating process. Instead of providing comfort, there was a very clear shift in tone. Dr. Schram said that he was clearly not the doctor for me, that he had tried everything he could think of and that "my expectations were too high" and held out his hand to shake mine, implying I should leave. Believe me, I wasn't expecting magic. If I'd felt even a slight lasting improvement I would have been thrilled. I asked him for recommendations for next steps and he offered none, except "maybe a homeopath", which to me further implied he thought the pain was in my head. He said he'd improved many aspects of my injury even though I claimed not to feel them. I asked him to explain what aspects those were, not in an accusing way at all--I really wanted to understand. He refused to describe them and seemed impatient for me to leave. He also suggested I stop doing vinyasa yoga all together, that it's "for the young and healthy". I am 31, and very active and healthy despite my injury. I left Dr. Schram's office sobbing. Neither he or his desk staff tried to see if I was okay. A few days later, I received a letter from his office. He said he was so sorry he couldn't help with my injury, and bulleted all the techniques he had tried, "all to no avail". There were a few items listed that I wasn't aware actually happened in our appointments. Although it was an attempt at an apology, the letter had a formal and patronizing tone, again implying that the failure of the treatment was somehow my fault. I understand that not all injuries can be treated with chiropractic, and if Dr. Schram had admitted this in a more compassionate, constructive way, I would have appreciated his honesty. I'm sure he has helped many people--he has a thriving, well-regarded practice, but for whatever reason, that was not my experience. read more

Dr. Schram was recommended to me by a colleague who found out I am plagued by frequent migraines. He said that Dr. Schram had helped get his migraines completely under control and that he was a lifesaver. Within a few weeks of seeing Dr. Schram, my migraines improved in intensity and shortened in duration. It's pretty amazing, especially since the visits are very quick (you are in and out in less than 15 minutes) and he doesn't do anything that seems that very extreme. It's also fairly easy to get an appointment during a convenient time slot and he never keeps you waiting (he prides himself on never overbooking). I feel so hopeful about my condition, rather than living in fear of another migraine and suffering through days of excruciating pain. I was surprised to see a negative review of Dr. Schram. Like the majority of the other clients leaving reviews, I have been nothing but impressed. I first saw Dr. Schram in 1999 and continue to see him periodically, as I work out with heavy weights in the gym. Occasionally, I throw out my back when not paying enough attention to my form while lifting. Often one visit to Dr. Schram is enough to solve the problem. I've had lower back issues for 32+ years due to an old hockey injury. I've had every type of procedure from chiropractic manipulation, to prolotherapy, to physical therapy.
