The process is simple: you arrive and check out the dogs/cats that are available from…read morerescues/shelters around the state; find one and play with them; fill out the paperwork and pay $30; and you're on your way with a new pup. I can see how this can be an issue for those that are cautious about ensuring that the animals are going to a good home, but on the flip side, it's a great event that helps to find permanent houses for most of the animals (just an assumption). This year, I went on both days. The first day I arrived 2ish hours after they had opened and nearly all of the pups were gone that were what I was looking for. I wanted to go back the next day to check it out, thinking that more pups would have been brought in - not the case at all. Cats were still in abundance both days. I got there right on time and they had nearly no new dogs from the last time. Sadly, there were all nearly Pits too. Even worse, my apartment complex doesn't allow Pits. I love the idea but hope that next year, even more dogs are brought in on the 2nd day so they can find their forever homes. The volunteers are great too. They usually didn't know most of the answers to the questions you had because they were simply volunteers, so that might be something to improve on next year. Instead of having the volunteers taking you and your possibly furry friend to the "meet and greet" stations, have one of the staff members from the shelters/rescues there so that you can get your questions answered while you're getting to know them. That was one major flaw I had. Every question I had wasn't able to be answered. Big props to the volunteers though!

THIS IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL EVENT…read more I cannot stress enough that if you are looking for a cat or dog, GO TO INDY MEGA. I would highly suggest going earlier in the event too because animals get adopted quickly!!! All the adoptable animals are up-to-date on vaccines, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. They cost $30 for adoption and they are ready to go to their furrever homes!! A lot of the shelters too offer vets that give free wellness checks or 30 days of free pet care insurance. (FYI: most vets will give you a free first visit if you adopted from a shelter). DOGS: One thing that I do want to caution about: A lot of the dogs are pitbulls or pit bull mixes. I have NOTHING against Pits; I love them. What I want to specifically bright to light is that a lot of these dogs had to go to an only pet home and were not good with kids. As a cat lady, this doesn't really work with my family. There a lot of other dogs who are not like this but I just want people to know this because there are a lot of dogs who need some love in a single pet/no kid home. I KNOW there are people out there who can do this for these animals. I heard that all the dogs got adopted except one the last time this event was held. AMAZING!!!! CATS: WOW. So many cats at Indy Mega. I think hundreds and maybe thousands of cats. I came at the end of the event and was leaving when I found the MOST perfect kitten who I just knew belonged to me and needed to come home! There was only 20 minutes left in the event but I was not rushed into the decision at all. The volunteers helped me visit with the cat, listened, and helped me through the decision making process without pushing me into adopting. If the volunteers didn't know the answer to my questions, they directed me to someone who could. The adoption process of my new cat was so easy. Took about 10 minutes. The greatest part is all the stuff they sent me home with. I got coupon books for both Petco and PetSmart. I got TONS of toys and treats. They gave me some wet food and a wet food can cover. I even got a bucket for free 10 pound box of litter (so helpful) and the bucket can be reused so I can go back for more discounted litter at Petco (I think). They really set you up for success. They want these pets to go to great homes. I couldn't be more thankful for such an amazing event. Great job Indy!!! and PLEASE check this event out even if you are just considering getting a pet.

If I could give zero stars, I would. We arrived at store opening and decided to see a puppy we…read morewere very interested in. The salesperson left us alone with the dog for nearly 30 minutes before we could get her attention to ask for information about the parents. During that time, the three employees on the floor spent more time walking around talking with each other than following up with customers on the floor. After playing with the dog for another 10-15 minutes, we decided to inquire about price. When we finally got the attention of a second sales associate, she rudely asked if we had ever been there before (what did that matter?) and asked who we had been working with. She told us that that person was "busy with a sale" and would be another five minutes. By this point, we had been in the store for a total of 75 minutes, the puppy had fallen asleep, and we said we could no longer wait. There was no explanation why neither she nor the other sales associates who were not busy could help us. The third associate then came over to take the puppy away, and when I told her, "You just lost a sale" due to the total disregard for us as qualified buyers, her response was a snarky "Have a good day." There were no apologies ... no acknowledgement of the indifferent treatment we received along with the total disrespect for our time. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I've had and I will not return to this Petland location.

Despite seeing this go down and my wife asking for the dog to be taken away, both employees working (Alyssa and Jacqueline I believe were their names) stood by and takes amongst themselves before doing anything to assist. When I approached Alyssa about why it took so long for someone to come and remove the dog there appeared to be no empathy for the situation. In regard to the dog biting my wife, I was told "well that's what happens when we get in a room with dogs". There was no apology or sympathy. She made it seem like it wasn't an issue that the dog bit someone or that her and the other employee took their sweet time to come help.

We adopted 3 female kittens at 9 months old from this breeder, specifically from the breeder's…read moreson/brother. This was in November of last year. A week ago, one of them died from unknown causes. We attempted to have her examined, but the vet was unable to formally conclude a cause of death. Before this happened, it took the kittens months and months to adjust. We followed every rule/suggestion to a T. We researched to find adaptable and friendly cats because we have a large square footage house and kids. Our kids are respectful and sweet. However, only one of these kittens feels comfortable enough to get in your lap. And she died:( We would have gotten another type of cat if we knew these would not have an easily adjustable personality. We are devastated to have lost one of our babies. I wish I could return to this breeder, but it would not be in our best interest. I had a bad feeling after meeting the brother the kittens hadn't been in a stable environment. Already being 9 months old and him mentioned he moved from out of state recently at the time, they had and still have mannerisms of kittens from an unstable environment. We wish would have gone in a different direction. I voiced my concerns, but there was nothing they could offer to do. You are stuck with kittens, yes you do love and are committed to, but are not much like the nature of what ragamuffins bring to a family. Overall not happy.

Tia and Avery have both reached out several times checking on us and "Hopscotch". I didn't want Hops to have to take a plane ride, so my wife and I decided to drive the 4+ hours to Indianapolis to pick her up and to our surprise, Avery offered to meet us along the way, shaving an hour off of our trip one way! They had another cat that another family was coming from Kansas City to get that same weekend, so we agreed to pick up 2 cats and the family from Kansas City met us near our home in St. Louis and REALLY cut there trip down, and we were happy to do it! They were both a delight and fun to travel with. You can really tell they both were super well adjusted and friendly and litter box trained. Both SUPER sweet girls! We almost made an offer to keep them both! lolz I cannot stress more the wonderful experience we have had and continue to have in this experience! DO NOT BE CONCERNED BY OTHER REVIEWS. I AM CONVINCED THESE PEOPLE LOVE THEIR CATS AND WILL DO WHATEVER IS THE RIGHT THING! Does life happen? Do cats get sick and have complications from surgeries? ABSOLUTELY! BUT these unfortunate events are not as a result of neglect or mistreatment by the breeders. 5 minutes with one of their cats and you will know they are well taken care of and good natured because of their wonderful, kind and loving care from birth! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Tia and Avery and Velvet Muffins for doing what you do and being so kind and caring.

Rebecca stated she was healthy (not the case), potty trained (not the case), and crate trained (not the case). Rebecca first said that Delta "took the money out of her account" but didn't credit her plane ticket, so our dog was not able to fly out the day we agreed to. Also she said the crate she was putting our puppy in was not at the standard for shipping animals so we had to pay $150 on the spot to get her the correct crate from the airport. One would hope that someone who sends puppies out routinely, would know how Delta credits flights for checks written as well as, the correct crate to send. She sent 2 other puppies from the same litter in crates as well. The first few days at home, our dog had diarrhea almost every hour, and hardly ate. She was lethargic, too thin, and dehydrated. We took her to vet immediately, after I saw worms in her feces. She had giardia, which, I understand is common in puppies. But she SENT her to us that way!!! Our Veterinarian told us, "this breeder should have never sent a sick puppy like this. how cruel, and irresponsible." She was sent with a health certificate (of which we had to pay $53 to get) that said she had the ability to fly safely. I tried to reach Rebecca via email many times about this sick puppy. All while ignoring my emails, and stating her email was hacked. I've connected with another owner who has a puppy from the same litter. Her pup has continued giardia like ours, as well as the same exact story of the "missed airline flight, and cost of the crate." This breeder stated how lucky I was to get a discounted puppy. Well now I know why she's discounted, because she was so sick. This breeder does not give the full story, in my mind, to it's customers. UPDATE 1/4/2020- My dogs Giardia is STILL not clear yet. My vet clinic is very shocked she is still so ill. Probably because she was sick for so long. My dog is now on a strong antibiotic!!!!! If this doesn't work, I'm not sure what our options are.
