History
Established in 1929.
Sterling Insurance Agency was founded in Beverly in 1929 by Lester O. Sterling, who originally operated the business from his home. As the agency grew, Les moved Sterling to 222 Cabot Street and later, in 1961, built a new office at 9 Broadway.
In 1983, Lester retired and sold the agency to Richard “Dick” Mooney, who had served as Executive Vice President since 1974. Continued growth led Sterling to move to larger offices at 306 Cabot Street in 1993.
In 2002, Richard “Rick” Mooney Jr. became President. In 2026, Connor Mooney became President, continuing another generation of family ownership and local leadership.
Nearly a century after its founding, Sterling remains a family-owned, independent insurance agency proudly serving Beverly, the North Shore, and communities throughout Massachusetts. Our commitment remains the same: personal service, trusted advice, and lasting relationships with the people and businesses we serve.
Meet the Business Owner: Connor M.
Connor Mooney is the President and owner of Sterling Insurance Agency, continuing a family tradition of serving Beverly and the North Shore. He grew up around the insurance business and joined Sterling after graduating from UMass Amherst, gaining experience in both personal and commercial insurance before becoming President in 2026.
Connor believes insurance should feel personal, straightforward, and relationship-driven. His focus is on carrying Sterling’s nearly century-long tradition forward while continuing to modernize the agency and provide the attentive, local service clients have come to expect.
As a lifelong North Shore resident, Connor is proud to lead a local, independent agency and remain actively involved in the community Sterling has served for generations.
