I had a really nice time here. My family and I went for a few hours, just to get some practice in at the driving range. We got a lil tour of the course and its beautiful rolling greens. I couldn't believe, from the looks of things, that this place had been in major repair. Everything looked so nice. The grass was lush and everything was just beautiful. The greens weren't too fast, just perfect. The customer service was impeccable and everyone was so friendly. Having come into the pro shop just before closing, I was worried that they'd be real reluctant to help us. That was NOT the case. Apparently there was going to be a special event held in the banquet room, beginning in the main lobby and foyer areas. They let us know this early and invited us to come back into the building for the pro shop or restrooms using an alternate building entrance. Awesome. After some practice swings, my lil one wanted a lil break. We took a break, sitting on the benches a ways away from the driving stalls. We watched the loads and loads of butterflies go by, migrating. It was beautiful and was just so calm. We hadn't thought about golfing here at all before but it was definitely something to think about now, having seen how nicely the grounds had been taken care of. I was so impressed with how the ladies restrooms were taken care of even, offering all the little things that make a world f difference, like mouth wash, wipes, perfume, tooth picks, sanitary feminine products just in case, etc. Things like that are so small but you'd have no idea how important they can be until you don't have 'em. I'm not sure if it was the same in the men's washrooms but I can tell you I definitely liked and appreciated those extras. Some of what was nice about being there was that everyone there was pretty laid back. They didn't rush us. They weren't upset with my lil one being there and making a few tiny lil outbursts because she was so excited to see the birds and all the migrating butterflies. Everyone was so sweet to our family. It was a great experience.

The worst day I played golf is here at Sterling Hills. All the staff were rude to our FAGA group which consist of 8 groups. The staff at the proshop and the starter are not acomodating and did not show any sign of understanding since we have 8 flights. The staff at the cafeteria slammed the phone on one player when he called to order his food on hole #8, and was not quick enough to say his choice of sandwich. We are the FAGA, Filipino American Golf Association of Ventura county , 95% retired Navy, and we bring business to the courses that we play since we average 36 players all the time. We all are in concert that the management don't want our group or Filipinos to play at Sterling Hills!

The greens are great and speed of play is excellent. The tennis and pickleball has its own pro shop and stadium court and the pool is fantastic. I highly recommend checking out this club for their amenities, having an event and especially joining.

The facts: Course is hilly. Fairways narrow. Rough is easy. Sand is consistent and nice. Trees are plentiful and well maintained, offering some shade and bordering fairways. Greens ran about 10 and were in very nice condition, as was the whole course. This is not a walkable course. Plays 5835 from Whites, 6278 from Blues and 6748 from Blacks. Par is 71. Rating: 72.4-68, Slope 135-123. Practice facilities: Range is wonky. It's very narrow (not the range itself, the area between the cart path and the hill's edge), only about 15 bays and is so downhill that it's really difficult to adjudge distance. The balls are standard range balls (not restricted) and fairly new. The putting green was well maintained, the size of a very long green, 80' X 35'? (est). The putting green was quite sloped, but was very consistent with stimp on greens. I saw no chipping/pitching or bunker practice area, but I could have missed it. Clubhouse: Super standard new private club architecture. Nice but nothing special. Lockers and bathrooms and facilities very clean and a bit generic. Staff: I had just a couple interactions with SH staff as it was a charity tourney run by volunteers but the ones I did talk to were particularly nice, in a genuine way. GOLF COURSE. Let me just get this out of the way. I have no idea why anyone would be a member of a course that is unwalkable, but hey, differences in tastes is what makes things interesting. So, I played in a scramble tourney from the whites and I'm a 5 handicap so I shouldn't be playing from the whites, but you know, whatever. This course at 6748 would be quite different than from 5835. And when you are playing a scramble the tactics are SO different than if you are playing for score and playing the course for the first time. Once one of my team members was in the fairway at 200-250, I'd just bomb it, trying to drive the green or close. Half the par 4's are drivable or close. If I played this course from gross score, I'd pretty much never hit driver from the whites probably not even from the tips. I'd be hitting a 4 iron. There are SO many blind tee shots. I'm not a fan. I do not like courses built into the sides of hills. You don't know what the tee shots are going to do. So many times I hit shots to the left side of the fairway and they ended up on the right or visa versa. If you are playing this course for the first time and aren't going to be playing it a lot, and not in a scramble, play ultra conservatively. I lost a couple drives that I hit exactly where I wanted to hit them but then I realized my target was off. The one thing that helps is the touch-screen GPS on the carts. Use it! I should have done a better job with that. It can really help you pick your spots. Speaking of carts. Enter through the fairways through the yellow stakes as indicated or the cart will seize up on you sometimes. And the cart seats are really comfy, too. So, yeah. This course is like so many courses in OC and Ventura counties that are built into the side of hills. I've played and reviewed quite a few of them. Not a fan. I only play when it's about hanging out with friends or free golf (as opposed to just pure golf scoring), but if you like these type of courses, this is a pretty good one. Well maintained. Great greens (on par with LACC, Annandale, Rustic Canyon, Hacienda, Oakmont). Have Fun. FORE!

This place managed to strike out before we even teed off…read more Strike one: I was charged a holiday rate on a non-holiday -- the Monday before Christmas. Last I checked, that's still a regular weekday. Strike two: No GPS on the carts. In 2025. Bring your own GPS or be prepared to guess yardages like it's 1994. Strike three: The course itself is a total toilet bowl. Tee boxes and fairways are unkept, fairways are beat up with little to no grass, weeds everywhere, bunkers full of gravel, rocks, and exposed tree roots, and broken concrete dumped off to the side of the course like an abandoned construction site. Greens clearly haven't been properly rolled. To top it off, the golf course website is flat-out misleading about its so-called "ongoing improvements." Most of the attention seems to be going toward the driving range--which still isn't even officially open--while the actual course is completely neglected. The water hazards are absolutely vile: stagnant, foul-smelling, and it felt less like a round of golf and more like I was on a PBR patrolling down the Mekong Delta near Saigon. What really adds insult to injury is seeing maintenance carts driving all over the property while it doesn't look like anything productive is actually getting done. Plenty of movement, zero results. Charging people real money to play this course in its current condition is insulting. This place should be shut down entirely and reopened only after a complete renovation. Until then, the course should be paying golfers to play here--not the other way around. I walked away feeling robbed of my hard-earned $59, which would've been more satisfying to flush straight down the toilet. Save your money. Lets check back in around 2030 and see if anything will have changed.

~ GOLF WITHOUT THE ALLERGIES? I'M IN! ~…read more SVN2 is a great spot for a date, hanging out with friends, celebrating a birthday, or even just having fun solo! I'm not really into golf, but my partner is, so when I first heard about a golf simulator where you hit balls into a giant screen, I didn't expect much. But I was totally surprised! The space is modern and tech-forward, with everything digitally set up. There's no receptionist, but the troubleshooting is quick if you need help. When you book a session, you get a code for entry. As soon as you walk in, it has a trendy, chill vibe. There's a lobby area with chairs, drinks for purchase (sodas/sports drinks), and a TV to pass the time. The venue has four bays (three open and one private), each with a small bar table and stools for seating. There's also a bathroom towards the back labeled the 19th hole. They provide free sets of clubs to use (for all skill levels, both men and women), though most people bring their own. Setting up on the computer is easy, and the technology behind the simulators is seriously impressive, with motion-sensing lidar cameras that track your shots pretty accurately. You get your own player profile, and you can set the skill level-- beginner for me! Each bay also has a TV, so you can play music or watch something while you play. Even though I didn't end up playing all 18 holes, there wasn't a moment where I wasn't entertained - I'd say great if you want to get your partner into your hobby, ha. There's different tiered memberships that you can join and we also saw that there was a league, which I thought was a pretty cool concept. Overall we really enjoyed our time here and it was a fun experience, we will definitely be back! It's super affordable and fun, so I highly recommend checking it out! *HOT TIP: They have golfballs there for use, but if you want to bring your own they need to be new, not scuffed, so it won't damage the screen. **HOTTER TIP: While it's not advertised, you can bring your own food/...other adult bevs your time here ;).
