After entering, we received a warm welcome and began perusing the candies and treats. They were organized by time period and some interesting information was posted nearby and/or on the individual item. There were also gift sets. Some of the items were quite dusty and seemed as if they had been there for some time. A lot of the items were things that can be purchased in Cracker Barrel or in other old-timey candy stores elsewhere. They offer modern candy as well, but overall, I was underwhelmed. I was quite surprised to see historic candies so full of artificial dyes. That was an eye opener. I was kind of surprised at the signage throughout the store. The signs seemed basic when considered all the endorsements that the store has. Maybe the signs were made to look less modern. I didn't end up purchasing anything but was glad to visit.

The candy of old. Part museum and part sweet shop, they have displays showing the candies through the ages, from native American hickory bark to 1900 toys and food items behind glass. It was tough to limit our purchase as we saw so many "must have" items. In the end, we got our bill down to under $30 and just got four different things including some chocolate covered almonds for me (vacation food!) and both ginger and licorice for Mrs. K. Note that True Treats Candy is not handicapped accessible. The entrance is a somewhat steep set of stairs. They might have a rear entrance, probably just ask. I personally wasn't a fan of the onion rings but the lamb gyro was amazing--so fresh and came out hot! I've heard good reviews on the chicken platter so will try that next time. I did the online ordering which was so convenient for someone like me always on the go. It's a food truck so I love the casualness to it but when I picked up my food, the gentleman serving me was very friendly. Would definitely recommend.

It's surprising, with the explosive growth of DC Food trucks, that there has not been a burger…read moretruck on the scene until now. Dorthy Moon's is now filling the aforementioned role as the only current DC Burger truck. The big purple truck hit the streets at the beginning of the month and is keeping it simple "slinging street meat". Their website is not currently up and running but their facebook page mentions 5 burgers - plus the "build your own" option. I did not see a list of suggested burgers, but was happy to build my own and opted for Bacon, Cheddar, with Terriyaki Mushrooms and the usual lettuce, tomato, onion, and condiments. They also offer a few unique toppings such as Sriracha sauce, egg, and pepperoni. I passed on the usual choices of sodas (they also offer an Arnold Palmer) and flavored chips so that I could sample the burger unfettered by distractions. The burger options are pretty generous with $6 for a single and only a dollar more for a "double". They did not take a "temp" on the burger but it was cooked to a nice juicy medium. (Note that if you don't like any pink in your burger you may want to ask for burger a bit more done). My first impression upon opening the foil wrapped burger was -- Five Guys! Almost the same profile and wrapping method as Five Guys and about the same size patties and hamburger buns. The meat was flavorful, bacon crisp and generously portioned, the bun soft and slightly sweet, and it was (of course with all of my toppings) a rather messy but enjoyable eat. My only minor quibble were the "terriyaki mushrooms" - they were decent sauteed button mushrooms, but I could detect no terriyaki flavor to them. They might want to consider offering turkey and/or veggie burgers if they want to round out their offerings for some of DC's health conscious. However, I have a feeling that this place will likely develop a loyal following, as is, if they keep their prices down and quality up.

Check out the funky little shack on their web page The staff bent over backwards offering us tastes of everything. We enjoyed the cherry, blue raspberry, vanilla, chocolate, and caramel. Peach was good, but not as good as the other five. 12 sugar free and almost double that with regular flavors. They'll combine flavors if you'd like. They offer a shot of "sour" if you want to add zing to your chill. If you're in the area, it's a cheap thrill.

We came early enough to grab a choose your own adventure mini pretzel and decided to go with a sprinkle pretzel for my three-year old and a garlic cheese knot for myself. The owner made a HUGE show of the sprinkle pretzel for my daughter and it totally made her day (as well as some of the kids behind us!). It was so pretty, almost too pretty to eat! As I mentioned, this place is SLAMMED so I don't think the owner was able to quality control the warming and topping of the pretzels well. I recommend getting little containers so you can top and toast up at home. If you eat at the market, your pretzel won't have that super fresh, buttery flavor that makes homemade pretzels so delicious. Other than that -- it's a solid product and I love how they hand make everything using real ingredients!

Really the last time that I had popcorn was earlier this year in Mexico City. There are vendors that sell bags of popcorn for like 10 pesos $.50 and I purchased these a couple of times. After I saw real popcorn again, I could not resost to buyinh some. The aweome employee offered me a couple of ssamples to try out. They give out small samples in these small tin cups and I tried Snores and Brownie flavored popcorn. I ended up getting the small movie flavored popcorn in a bag and it was all of the popcorn flavor that I had expected. I would recommend getting at least the medium sized popcorn of whatever flavor you have in mind.

The chicken shawama looked so good on the spit that I actually complimented the woman who was working and she seemed flattered. They were both VERY nice women who were working and you could tell that they cared about the product. The platter also included quinoa, rice, salad. And the four sauces. Well 1. Garlic Sauce: This trophied for us. Me and T were all about this garlic sauce. 2. Mayo based sauce: Mixed well with the garlic sauce. 3. Spicy Red sauce: Ok, this sauce is not kidding around. It is not a comedian, it is not punny, it is not yanking your chain. The seriousness of this spicy sauce is head spinning. 4. Tahini: Tahini was a solid version of the stuff. VERY affordable too!
