Family and I had been going for a while. He often seemed to be distracted by one of the assistants/hygienists needing him or called away for something else. That after a lengthy wait. None of us were truly the center of focus but we kept going. The one lady up front who will remain nameless is horribly rude and pushy. Does not take "no" for an answer. After several months of them insisting that we owed a balance and apparently not billing both insurances, we fled to another dentist in Montrose. Could not be happier. My veneer came out and I went nuts at about 3:30pm. I called Dr Giovanisci and he told head over. Amazingly, due to some decay behind my front tooth, he cleared it and fitted a temporary crown for me. PERFECT! In two weeks I will be getting a crown. I went in last month to have Dr. Giovanisci file down a chipped tooth. They did an x ray. After it was done I was at the front and he said not to worry "that it's on the house because it was so quick". I asked if he was sure and he said yes. I just got a bill for $165 for an x ray and limited oral evaluation. I called and spoke to aaron and explained it and she said it was for the procedure and x ray. I would have paid it then. While I was sitting in his chair he told me how his business has really gone down since he sold it. No wonder Dr G when you do this back door billing with a lying smile on your face. Although you will call the Montrose dental office for Dr. G., you will need to go to the LA Dental Group on Tuesdays only. Money-grabbing over treatment or incompetence? This practice seems to have been taken over buy another dentist, but Dr. Giovanisci is still here. Whichever doc is available for an appointment, I strongly suggest you find a different office altogether. This place used to be good, but the staff has almost totally turned over and what remains is NOT GOOD. Dr. Giovanisci tried to push unnecessary treatment on me, claiming that a healthy tooth needed a crown. During this appointment, he claimed he "just had a cancellation" (I've heard him say this before ..hmmmm) and said he could do the work right away...then he had his front desk person write up a cost, but not check with my insurance. He was not really answering my questions about the tooth, the desk person was not answering my questions about costs, and they were using all these high-pressure sales tactics to hustle me to agree right then and there -- and this really raised my suspicions. So I passed and made an appointment at a different office. The new dentist was puzzled. After X-rays and an exam, there was absolutely no need for a crown or any other work needed on the tooth in question at this time. So which is it? Was he trying to line his pockets before retirement? Or was he just, after all his years of experience, making a mistake? Both are disqualifying. Ironically, my friend had a check-up with Dr. Gionvinisci. He had his cleaning and...well, Dr. Giovinisci never showed up for the exam. If this isn't enough, the hygienist who worked on me had a very sweet personality, but did an un-thorough job. She in face missed a whole section and I had to tell her. Really sad, because my old hygienist who is no longer at the practice was a ROCK STAR. La Crescenta is full of top-tier dentists with great chairside manners. Suggest you find one of them instead. read more

I'm so sad to hear that Dr. G sold his practice and the new owner doesn't accept the type of Delta Dental Insurance I have. I wish Dr. G all the best in his retirement. I would have given Dr.G 5 stars given the fact that my family and I have been going to him for years but recently he sold his practice to another doctor and WITHOUT warning his long time patients decided to start billing us for things we would have never been billed for. My husband and I had cleaning done recently and we received a bill for that as well, when we called his office to ask why we got a bill for it they informed us that the office was sold to a different doctor so it has changed. Walking into this office is a genuine pleasure. Smells clean and looks clean and comfortable. The Gals behind the counter were right on it and greeted me. Dr. Steve came and personally greeted me in the waiting room. He showed me to the room where a cute young girl with excellent manners did all my x-ays. The Dr came back and spent a good amount of time explaining all my options and giving me a very thorough consultation. He answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable doing the procedures. I had used Dr. Giovanisci for years but the last time, he took over a month to get my broken tooth replaced. After removing the tooth, he put in a "temporary" tooth that tore up my tongue so bad that I remarked that "all I needed was some horse radish to go with my sliced up tongue." After replacing the temporary tooth 3X, he finally got the replacement tooth installed. It was Okay for 2 months, that's when I found that it was pushing my other teeth out of alignment. I refused to go back and he said that he'd send me to collection. I told him that if he did that, I'd take him to small claims court. And that's what I'm doing. read more

Okay. This is going to be a long 5 star review. First, I AM AFRAID OF THE DENTIST. However, after today's experience at Dr. Giovanisci's office, I think I have turned a corner. I left with a smile, even after the drilling haha. I broke a tooth...it has been years since I had been to the dentist. I picked Dr. Giovanisci because of reviews I read. I called on a Tuesday afternoon and was able to be seen Thursday. He fixed me up, did not try to up sell like most dental offices do these days. He did not make me feel bad about myself, him and his hygienist made me laugh, he was very gentle and kind, and just an all around great person. The staff was amazing starting with my first terrified call. The office was lovely and welcoming. They follow the new COVID procedures to a T! I was the only patient there as they are scheduling to provide services to just one person at a time. I'm sure it's not always like this, but considering the time we are in, they are doing the best to protect themselves and their patients. I loved it. If you're scared, I get it. But don't be afraid to go see Dr. Giovanisci. Him and his staff are so amazing. I go back in two weeks and I'm not scared! I'm almost happy that my tooth broke because I have now found a dentist that I look forward to seeing. My dentist was out of town in Barcelona today, and I needed emergency assistance with my onlay that came off last night. I called the Pasadena office location (where I live), and they put me in contact with the Montrose location of this practice that was open a little later. The receptionist I spoke to was very nice and tried to accommodate me immediately. She asked if I can arrive at their office in 1 hour. Upon entering this dental practice, I had a positive experience right from the beginning, and the customer service was exceptional. After 5 minutes, they were able to take me in, and Dr. Stephen took care of my dental needs right at once. I was so pleased with the dental care, professionalism, and ready-to- help attitude by all the staff. I recommend this dental practice to anyone who wants great care of their dental needs. I went there a while ago and NEVER again. I worked for United Health Care at the time so I know exactly what my plan covers and doesn't cover. Plus my friend's sister is a dentist but works in Westwood and she quoted me 1,500. I didn't want to drive on the 405 so I decided to take a chance since he's open late. Big mistake! He was quoting me over 5k on a crown replacement. Said I would have to pay mostly out of pocket. I asked why and he said pre-existing conditions. BS, I have non. I'm fit and healthy and even if i wasn't, how would he know if that was my first time there. I had a cleaning but it was rushed and mediocre. I would suspect he's a quack or simply doesn't care. If your new and THINKING about going, check you bill and make sure he isn't trying to pull a fast one on you. read more

Dr. Giovanisci is outstanding! I was seeing another dentist that had removed my wisdom tooth and I ended up with dry socket and infection. I had been suffering for 2 weeks and called in on a Saturday night to Dr. Giovanisci's emergency line. He called me back right away and told me to come in first thing Monday morning. I had been through so much at this point and had dealt with bad service at the last dental office so it was so nice to see friendly, caring faces at Dr. G's office. He cleaned out my socket and put some paste in to help it heal and gave me antibiotics. He reassured me that it will heal but it will take a bit of time. That reassurance is something I desperately needed. His office called me every day to check on me, which was wonderful! I am finally healing and so thankful to him and his staff for helping me! This review is long over due. If you want to get some cosmetic dental work done to fix your smile so you can smile confidently again, other general dental work like checkups, fillings, cleanings or are simply looking for a new dentist and wondering if Dr. Stephen G is the right dentist? Read on.. I have had very bad front teeth since childhood and not been happy with my smile. They were crooked and badly shaped. As a result, I never smiled very much. I think this is also the reason I gave up on them and never paid much attention to my dental health. So, I was very prone to getting cavities in the past. But I remember watching a show almost 20 years ago called "Extreme Makeover" on ABC7 where selected participants received complete image and body transformations which included full cosmetic dental work done to fix their smiles. For the first time I realized I could actually do something about my smile that I was unhappy with. I decided to do some research on cosmetic dentists in the LA area. Eventually I narrowed my list down to 2-3 cosmetic dentists. One was the cosmetic dentist on the "Extreme Makeover" show himself, a Beverly Hills dentist named Dr. Bill Dorfman. And the other one was Dr. Stephen Giovanisci in Montrose, LA. Long story short, my consultation with Dr. Dorfman's office was both quick and disappointing. An associate took a look at my teeth and said they were horrible, needed to be fixed. I was not being informed about any details about my dental condition or given any chance to discuss treatment plan etc. He got up quickly after only a few minutes of consultation and said his "finance manager" would come in and talk to me about "fees". In addition to being quoted astronomical prices for the dental work they proposed, the whole experience from start to finish gave me the impression that they didn't have my best interests at heart and I was simply a new column in their financial spreadsheet. I first came to Dr. Stephen's office back in 2004. When I arrived, I didn't have high expectations after my rather disappointing consultation experience with the Beverly Hills Dr. Dorfman's office. However, the experience was night and day. The staff at Dr. Stephen's office including Dr Stephen himself were very professional, friendly, warm and welcoming - and to date still are! I remember my consultation with Dr Stephen himself for the first time back in 2004, almost 20 years ago. He examined my teeth thoroughly, took meticulous notes, made and analyzed my charts etc. He printed out a pictorial representation of my teeth, showed me and explained the problems he saw and went over several different options he thought would help fix my smile. We also spoke at great length about dental health and hygiene. I remember he also patiently answered every question I asked, providing full detailed answers. The prices he quoted me were very reasonable compared to the other dentist. He did not pressure me to make any decision on the spot at all. He gave me a detailed printout that described each recommended procedure, the pros and cons, a pictorial representation of my teeth and the cost for each procedure and told me to think about what I personally wanted to do and contact him when ready. He also personally walked me to the front desk and reminded me to call anytime if I had any questions about what we discussed that day. Long story short, I was impressed with my initial consultation experience and decided to have full smile makeover cosmetic dental work done with Dr. Stephen G shortly after. He set me up with a combination of crowns and veneers. It took several appointments to get it done because of how bad the condition of my front teeth was. But I still remember the whole experience was phenomenal from start to finish. I remember smiling for the first time when it was all finally done. It was an amazing feeling. Had to spend several weeks practicing how to smile properly in front of the mirror because I had never smiled so much before. I now have straight teeth and smile confidently thanks to Dr Stephen! He was very thorough and professional with the work he did and was always communicating and explaining everything he did every step of the way. Awesome chairside experience. This is the best dentist office! First, they have confident appointment times that, on certain week days, go into the evening which is really convenient if you work late. The staff is friendly, waiting area is clean and calming. They have a Keurig out to help yourself, and I'm never waiting too long to be seen for an appointment. The dental techs are always super nice and helpful, and the dentists extremely knowledgeable. I recently got my husband to start coming and he's been very happy with his experience as well. Dr. Giovanisci comes from a place of True Care. We have been going to him for years and he always gives the honest approach to any dental matter, whether it be mandatory for dental health or elective/cosmetic. He is never pushy and looks at the overall oral balance of his patients. His suggestions are just that, suggestions, which are based on his experience as well as what he would want to do personally to his own teeth. His craftsmanship is impeccable. His crowns are the best we've ever had. They are not only aesthetically brilliant, but close to the gum, strong, and unnoticeable and undetectable, as a crown should be. He also saved my husband's original tooth, which had gone through past root canal and jaw surgery, by referring him Dr. Pratte the kindest, most gentle Endodontist to perform a root amputation. Sounds scary, right? It was actually a pleasant experience for him and he was so thankful at the mindset of both Dr. Giovanisci and Dr. Pratte for taking the time and effort to save his natural tooth and work with it rather than giving up and jumping right to an implant option. And...over the years, the procedure has strengthened into the bone even further (as it was supposed to) and he's actually getting a new crown by Dr. Giovanisci in order to finally restore this "problem area of his mouth" back to its original-natural state. The Integrity of these two medical professionals working in tandem for his benefit is something he appreciated very much. I really like Dr. Giovanisci's chairside manner while he's trying to do some dental repair. But the last time I went to him, he so screwed up my bridge work that I am going to have to go to another dentist to get my teeth repaired. I had bitten into a sliver of bone while eating aT-bone steak and it split my tooth in half. Dr. Giovanisci took out the remaining part of the tooth and built a temporary bridge to hold until the lab created a replacement for me. The temporary was so bad that it fell out after 2 days. He created another one for me, and that one was so bad that I had to go back to have it sanded down. After 30 minutes in the chair with him working on me, I left. I had to return 2 days later because the temporary tooth cut up my tongue so bad that I joked that I could probably make a tongue sandwich out of it if I had some horseradish. I then had to come back again 2 weeks later to install the bridge. Within 4 months, the poorly fitting bridge caused one of my front teeth to bulge out making it difficult to bite small items. I won't go back there. My mouth hurt for almost 6 weeks. I will have to have another dentist do the repair work. Now I'm afraid to even get my teeth cleaned. read more

Can I give less stars? I usually don't give bad reviews but in this case... worst dentist ever. Convinced me there was something wrong with my son bcuz he was in pain during a filling... I could hear him in the waiting room (was not allowed to go in and talk to my son). Charged an outrageous amount, and was just plain RUDE. Currently in the waiting room at the new dentist as my son is having a root canal, and not a sound coming from him... he is doing well. Nothing wrong with my son. Only reason I post this is because it is my baby, and that I take seriously. I'm also a former dental assistant so I have the credibility to know a fantastic dentist when I've been to one. Not only is Dr. Giovanisci personable, he wanders around the waiting room greeting patients instead of hiding in the back like a star who is about to make his appearance. He cleaned my teeth himself!! It was the best cleaning imaginable. He's also very cognizant about helping you to save money. The staff is superb. You receive all of the attention and care from them that you need. You also don't have to wait. I was brought in for my cleaning and check-up right on time. As someone who is perpetually frightened of dental work, I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Giovanisci and Dr. Mascarenhas' office. I've made my whole family change their dentists to come here because of how happy I am with their service and staff. I am not a fan of the dentist's chair in general because to me, it seems that most dentists recommend procedures that are unecessary, not to mention to pain and anxiety from the drill, etc. So it had been quite a while, that I'd been to the dentist. But through a personal referral to Dr. G, I was pleasantly surprised that going to the dentist does not have to be a bad experience. He was attentive and always made sure that i was comfortable with the next step.
