Since dental work is expensive I wanted to know what price to expect before paying for a consultation fee - so I made an appointment with someone else who came highly recommended by my regular dentist - That surgeon scheduled me for surgery months out, then cancelled my case 2 weeks before it was to be performed because it was a complicated case and referred me to Dr. Maranon! Everything happens for a reason, because I couldn't be happier or more confident in having my surgery with Dr. Maranon. Everyone in their office including Dr. Maranon is so nice, caring and accommodating. I'm just over one week post-op now and I had almost NO pain at all and no prescription pain medication. They made an experience I was dreading, into no big deal at all. In fact, I really enjoyed meeting everyone in their office - they're lovely people, my results are perfect AND, the fees for my procedure ended up being less than what I had been quoted to me by a less experienced surgeon. Honestly, if I could give more than 5 stars, I would! From the very beginning, the entire team was professional, kind, and reassuring. They also offer a 10% discount for cash payments, which was very helpful financially. My procedure was in early December. I checked in at 8:30 AM for a 9:00 AM appointment. The team prepared me thoroughly, and I appreciated the guidance to wear comfortable clothes and a short-sleeve shirt. I was asleep during the procedure, and everything went smoothly with no pain. My older son picked me up around 11:30 AM and drove me home, as I wasn't allowed to drive afterward. I rested for the remainder of the day. What really stood out to me was the level of care that Dr. Bak personally called me later that afternoon to check on how I was doing and answered all my questions. He was incredibly patient and supportive. Anna was also amazing and went above and beyond in communicating with me throughout the entire process. In early February, I returned for a gum graft, and just this morning I had my final visit. Everything looks beautiful, and I can now continue treatment with my regular dentist. Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience with this dental office, particularly with the…read morefollow-up care after my tooth extraction. There were repeated issues with prescriptions being sent incorrectly or not reaching my pharmacy. The first time, my antibiotics were sent to the wrong pharmacy. Before my eventual extraction, another antibiotic prescription again did not arrive, and when I contacted the dentist over the weekend because my procedure was Monday morning, I felt I was treated very rudely for suggesting that the same pharmacy error might have happened again. The much bigger issue came after my extraction. About four days afterward, I began experiencing severe and progressively worsening pain. I told the office that I had previously experienced dry socket after wisdom tooth removal and that this felt very similar. I was having so much pain that I could not sleep through the night and specifically asked to be examined. It was difficult to get an appointment because I was told they were very busy. When I was finally seen, the examination was extremely brief. I was told that even if I had dry socket, there was essentially nothing that could be done and that I would need to manage the pain with additional pain medication. After several more days of extreme pain, I went to an oral surgeon recommended by a friend. He immediately diagnosed a dry socket, treated it, and within the same day I felt dramatically better. I understand that complications such as dry socket can happen after an extraction. That is not why I am leaving this review. My concern is that I repeatedly communicated how severe my pain was, specifically raised the possibility of dry socket, and still felt dismissed rather than properly evaluated and treated. After seeing how quickly another oral surgeon was able to identify and treat the problem, I was extremely disappointed with the care and follow-up I received here.

UPDATE 10 months post LANAP, October 2026:…read more I wanted to write a follow up as I had such good results since my LANAP procedure in December. I already breathed a sigh of relief at my July visit when my pockets were measured for the first time again. Initially, they were 5-9mm in a lot of places pre treatment. In July, all pockets had reduced to 4-5mm. Yesterday, all pockets measured at 4mm or below! I am so relieved and happy that the procedure was so successful already and well worth it. Dr. Penhaskashi's expert care, the regular cleanings and me staying on top of my oral hygiene led to fantastic results. I could have cried at the news! You can read about my initial traumatic experience with a different periodontist below, who immediately wanted to extract teeth and do several surgeries. I am so glad I got a second opinion and landed in the hands of Dr. P who always tries his best to preserve teeth for as long as possible. I came to Dr. Penhaskashi after a terrible experience with another periodontist that comes once a month to my dentist's office. I'm not sure if that is part of the reason, but that periodontist saw me for all of five minutes, simply said it doesn't look great, said a tooth needs to be extracted, gave me a two minute video to watch about grafts, then told me I'd get a cost estimate and just left. Zero explanation as to what he would want to do and I just sat in my car afterwards crying feeling helpless and terrified. That's when my search for a new periodontist started. Likely similar to you, I read so many reviews and decided to give this office a call. From the first contact with Celeste I knew I made the right decision. She was so empathic and reassuring that I actually looked forward to my appointment and to meeting her. On the day of my first appointment everyone I encountered was just so kind and wonderful. Special shout out to Margaret, the treatment coordinator, who managed to calm me down as I was in tears when I shared my previous experience with her. During this first visit x-rays were taken and Dr. Penhaskash explained what treatment he would suggest immediately and other things that should need to be tackled down the road. He has a very calm, caring nature and also a much appreciated sense of humor. He takes his time and educates his patients on the state of their oral health and possible reasons for it without ever shaming them or making them feel guilty or embarrassed, which is an experience I had previously. He even gave me kudos for seeking out a new periodontist as many are too scared and anxious after a bad experience and delay treatment until it might be too late to save their teeth. If you're being suggested to LANAP, don't hesitate. It might sound a little scary and invasive, but it really isn't. I had minimal pain after the initial numbing. I chose "laughing gas" for my first visit, but won't for the second as I don't find it's necessary now that I know what to expect. The worst part is the initial injections for numbing and that's over quickly. And while everyone's recovery is different, I woke up with zero pain the next morning just 12 hours post surgery. Oh, the tooth the other periodontist wanted to extract right away will stay for now. In Dr. Penhaskashi's words "let's give it a chance." The other Dr. did not have LANAP training and therefore less options available. If you're anxious like me but know that you need help regarding your oral health, don't hesitate to visit Dr. P for a consultation. You will be in good hands!

I have reported this office to my insurance company and the Dental Board of California for…read moremisconduct and unethicality. Linda and Jennifer are both extremely rude, and unethical. Jennifer tried to upsell me on PRF for an upper wisdom tooth extraction saying that it was absolutely necessary to try to get more money out of me since they didn't like that insurance was already covering my wisdom tooth extraction. During my consultation Jennifer spent a lengthy amount of time trying to convince me that this additional add-on was needed, then weeks later say it wasn't needed once other additions to my tab was going to already increase my bill. This office also falsely reported to my insurance company that I "missed" my appointment when in fact they refused to provide me service once I declined sedation and since using only local numbing meant they were getting paid less. By the way this refusal of service all happened on a phone call while I was already on my way to the appointment that I had already scheduled for weeks! I advised Jennifer that due to me having a separate dental procedure the previous day I was advised by my dentist that getting sedation the following day was not recommended based on the outcome of my dental work that had unexpectedly happened that day, and that I needed to use local anesthesia instead. Instead of being understanding of what was needed for my dental health, Jennifer and Linda were EXTREMELY rude, unprofessional, and unhelpful since I needed to exclude the add-on services and was no longer going to be paying them more money for the add-on services. They went out of their way to give me a hard time. They should be ashamed of this behavior. Dentists should be genuinely helping patients instead of trying to be like greedy car mechanics ripping people off, being rude, and unethical. They have been reported to the appropriate parties to prevent this from happening to others.

They were very open to my distress and had a conversation with said doctor. I had the appoitment for an extraction for a full month in advance and spent that time being very stressed out about pain, discomfort and having to buy a special soft diet. The doctor was then kind to me and assuring and the extraction was actually very easy; the recovery though was difficult. They did provide gauze but it was minimal and I went through 80 gauze pads with bleeding (I'm on blood thinners they were not worried about and perhaps that contributed). Having said that, I had no residual pain, no bruising or swelling. It all worked out in the end. The office staff was very accomodating. I would recommend this center.

The Dr. listened to my concerns and went over my medical history with me. He is easy going, a good listener and does fantastic work! My procedure was quick and pain free. They phoned in pain meds and antibiotics to my pharmacy and I couldn't have been happier. Front office staff and the surgical assistant were all very nice. Office is super clean with plenty of free parking. I definitely recommend this place if you need some tooth extractions...
