I had surgery at this hospital earlier this year. I want to be clear that my review is not about…read morethe doctors, nurses, or the clinical care I received. The medical staff provided very good care, and the facility appeared clean, professional, and well maintained. My concern is limited to the billing and post-procedure communication process. After the procedure, I reviewed the Explanation of Benefits from my health insurer, and the amount billed to me appeared to be significantly higher than what I understood to be the insurer's indicated patient responsibility. Because billing matters can be complicated, I tried to contact the hospital to ask for clarification and to request a written review of the account. In my experience, however, the process was very difficult to navigate. The available communication appeared to rely mainly on phone calls during business hours, which was challenging for me because of my schedule. I left voicemail messages explaining the issue, and I also sent fax communications asking the hospital to review the account and respond. As of this review, I have not received a clear written response resolving the discrepancy. I later contacted my insurer to seek clarification as well. From my understanding, the balance may still be treated as unpaid or not fully resolved, although the matter remains under review. I am continuing to work with both the insurer and the hospital to understand the final amount, if any, that I actually owe. What has been frustrating is not the medical care, but the lack of a clear and accessible written communication process for a billing issue involving an insurance EOB. If the hospital disagrees with the insurer's EOB or believes additional patient responsibility applies, I would expect a clear written explanation so the patient can understand the basis for the charge and address it appropriately. Again, I appreciated the clinical care I received. However, the billing follow-up experience was stressful, time-consuming, and difficult to resolve. Prospective patients may want to confirm in advance how this hospital handles insurance billing, EOB discrepancies, written billing disputes, and communication options other than phone calls. I would also encourage prospective patients to read a range of reviews, including lower-rated reviews, before deciding where to receive care.

Dr. Park called me the night before to talk about my surgery and I expressed to him that I was a bit freaked out by the idea of being awake during the procedure. While in my bed waiting to go into the OR, Dr. Park swung by to connect with me. When I got to the OR, he asked me what sort of music I'd like to hear during my surgery. Of course, this was very sweet, but I'd hoped to be blissfully asleep most of the time, if not all. Let's just say that he listened to my concerns and I slept soundly through the entire procedure and woke up blissfully happy in the recovery room! No nausea or any other issues after the surgery. I still don't know what music they were playing in the OR, which proves how well he did his job. ;-) Great experience from beginning to end. Hopefully I'll get the same anesthesiologist for my next eye!

The kids handled the anesthesia very well and Dr. park worked on them back to back. There were minimal effects of the anesthesia and by 3pm, they were golden and back to their normal. The procedure for the first was done by 8:30am and the second was before 9am.

I am absolutely disgusted by the way I was treated by this nurse. While visiting a family member in…read morethe emergency department, I noticed that multiple patients before and after us were allowed to have two visitors accompany them. However, when it came to my family, this nurse refused to allow the same accommodation. What makes this situation even more frustrating is the blatant inconsistency. If there is a hospital policy limiting visitors, it should be enforced equally for EVERYONE, not selectively depending on who is asking. The emergency room is already an incredibly stressful and emotional environment for families. The last thing anyone should have to deal with is unnecessary hostility, unfair treatment, and a complete lack of compassion from someone working in healthcare. I have absolutely no issue following hospital policies, but I do have an issue with being treated differently when everyone around me appears to be receiving exceptions. This experience was unacceptable, extremely frustrating, and completely unprofessional. Hospital staff should be held accountable for how they communicate with and treat patients' families. I sincerely hope management addresses this inconsistency because no family should have to experience this during an already difficult time.

I had a wonderful experience today at the Silicon Valley Surgery Center. I was scheduled for a…read moretransforaminal epidural steroid injection in the lumbar region of my spine. This injection is meant to help decrease inflammation that was causing pressure on my sciatic nerve. We were warmly greeted when we arrived. I checked in at the front desk. Luckily, the day before, they emailed me a link to fill out all my paperwork. That proved to be very helpful and made the check-in process very easy and fast. The facility is very modern and large. There were quite a few people in the waiting area waiting to be called back for their procedures. The waiting area is very nice with plenty of seating. There was a big flat-screen TV for all to watch while waiting. They have a self-serve coffee area. You can choose your flavor and variety of Keurig pods and easily make yourself a nice hot coffee. My husband took advantage of that. I was called back within 15 minutes of checking in. The nurse taking care of me did a great job explaining the procedure and the order of events that were going to take place. She did an amazing job inserting my IV and kept me warm with heated blankets and a heating machine that blows warm air under the blankets. Since it was freezing in there, the warming machine felt so nice. I got to meet everyone in the surgical suite and was able to ask my Dr. questions before anesthesia was given to me. The surgeon, nurses, and technicians were all so nice and made me feel comfortable. Before I knew it, I was in recovery. The procedure was successful. They offered me juice of my choice while I was in the post-op area. The nurse removed my IV and helped me get dressed, while my husband moved the car to the patient pick-up area. This was one of the best outpatient experiences I have ever had. Everyone was so professional and friendly. They were very thorough with going over all my allergies. I'm allergic to a lot of medications, so that part is extremely important to get right. They took excellent care of me. If I need to have an out patient procedure, in the future, I would definitely choose to have it done here. I highly recommend coming here for an outpatient procedure.

My anesthesiologist was also fantastic, and of course I had a great experience with my doctor. I felt very well cared for by the clinical team. Where I think there is room for improvement is the front-office experience. The front desk came across as somewhat unprofessional and there wasn't much acknowledgment or greeting when patients arrived. Communication with the finance department was also frustrating, as I had difficulty getting calls returned. Overall, the medical care itself was wonderful and that's ultimately the most important part to me. I just wish the administrative experience matched the level of professionalism and warmth I received from the nurses, anesthesiologist, and my doctor.

Dr. Stratmann: I'm…read moredoing well thanks for following up email. I was a bit delirious yesterday, and the pain walking was a bit unbearable, but I survived. I only feel nauseous after I take my medication, which I take with food as prescribed. The pain had subsided a bit; I only feel it as I stand or bend to sit. I want to thank you for making me feel at ease regarding my aneurysm question; I was a bit nervous, but thanks again for your kindness, eye contact, reassurance, and your listening skills. You heard me when I said, putting the mask on makes me a bit uneasy and you made sure I didn't have to deal with it. Thank You! To me, there is nothing you need to change the call, the emails, your bedside manner, and your emphasis on the importance of pain management during recovery were very much needed. Stay awesome and know I appreciate you.

Highest recommendation for Dr. Greg!…read more Due to a prior bad surgical experience, I have high anxiety when "going under". I recently had an ear surgery and as surgeries go, it went so much better than anticipated. Dr. Greg called me the night before to check in. He then came and SAT at my bedside. We actually had a chat. He told me my email, which he had memorized, let me know he would follow up the following day, and he asked if I go by "Michelle". I told him I was nervous and he told me the hardest part about today was the car ride over...well that was a piece of cake because my sister drove me. When he left, I felt I was in really good hands. As I went to sit on the table for surgery, he was talking to me, while injecting me with 2 viles into my tube. I played down, the nurse told me to smooch up and honest to goodness it was the last thing I remember. Dr. Greg did not give me a chance to let my anxiety set in. He was on what I needed. When I woke up, I am told, I was asking for a margarita and if I was still in Mexico (I had just returned from vacation)...When I saw my sister sitting next to me, I love her, but the "dream" was over - she wasn't in Mexico with me. Dr. Greg checked in on my during recovery...I don't remember much there, but he did follow up with me via email and I told him the same as above. For someone who has much anxiety going under, it has a darn good ending. Listening to your patient only matters if you follow up with what THEY need. Bedside manner is MORE than key - and if you wake up feeling as though you are on vacation, well that's just bonus. Thank you Dr. Greg. Keep doing exactly what you're doing...you are doing it well!! He is retiring soon and I think it's important that I write a review about how he has helped me with the quality of my life. I am a chronic pain patient and have been his patient for almost 23 years .I have had four surgeries just in the last five years not to mention the shoulder surgery for a grade 5 slap tear I have to face in the next year and neck surgery after that and if I don't have him to do blocks on my back and shoulder in between i do not know how I will handle the pain even with pain medication .I am devastated he's leaving his practice and retiring because there's very few people who care about those of us that have chronic pain and need pain management doctors.what I love about Dr Hopkins is he fights for his patients. He takes a stand and his courage gives me courage to stand up and fight for my rights and for others. Finding another interventional pain management doctor to replace him is going to be hard but I know he will help me because that's just the kind of person he is ,he actually cares as he's a wonderful Doctor Who cares about his patients But he's a decent human being which we seem to be lacking these days . I've always listened and done exactly what he asks me to do like walking or working out even if I don't feel like it I do it anyway. I keep my weight down, I watch what I eat I know pain management does not just involve taking medicine it involves staying in shape mentally, physically, and spiritually.Thank you Dr Hopkins. Thank you for fighting for all of us who would've otherwise fallen through the cracks and maybe not even still be here if it wasn't for you. I use my platform working for a non profit local TV show to help others and keep the Focus on the less fortunate and speak up for those that don't have the strength and courage to fight for themselves. About a week ago, I notice some discomfort in one of my man parts, and after inspecting the area for days, I noticed a very small lump toward the top back of my testis (TMI I know). I spent the next few days unfortunately reading hours of information on Google and Reddit, along with hours of video on YouTube. My anxiety was so high, as I was convinced I had testicular cancer at 38 years old. I was able to make a quick appointment with Dr. Gutman after waiting only 2 days. I brought my wife with me, he sat us down, and asked me to tell him my concerns. After doing so, he performed the exam and within a minute, reassured me that what I had was a completely harmless cyst called a Spermatocele. I asked him to please check one more time because I wanted to be convinced. He knew how nervous I was, so he again thoroughly checked the area. When he told me there was nothing to worry about, he noticed that I had kid cash for the visit. Dr. Gutman proceeded to shake my hand and told his office staff to refund my exam fee. I was almost in tears with having the good news along with his selfless gesture. Great guy and I really appreciate him.

The situation which sealed the deal for me to lose all confidence in Dr Gutman was I just learned tonight, through a slip of the tongue, that while in high school my grandson had surgery for a pionoidal cyst. After surgery wound wasn't healing so returned to Dr Gutman who said it would heal just give it time and he was going on vacation. When I heard that I was very very upset even though it happened about three years ago. My daughter, grandson's mom, immediately took him to pediatrician who examined the would and referred them to wound care center. What kind of surgeon can't recognize and diagnose a wet wound that needs immediate attention at wound care. My opinion of Dr Gutman fell to the lowest score and I've lost all respect for him as a surgeon. His vacation was more important than his patient. With this information please do not put your trust and life in the hands of Dr Gutman. Don't mess with a grandma bear when it comes to her grandchildren.
