Cocktails are limited to options such Jack and Coke in a plastic cup. That being said, thats what makes this place what it is. If you want old school music playing from a jukebox (think Al Green and Sam Cooke), a very interesting yet smoky atmosphere of a 1940's shoe store morphed into a barroom, and a conversation with some interesting individuals and hardcore videopoker players from all socioeconomic backgrounds, you have found your spot.

The crowd is full of barely legal types and the barely alive regulars that circle the bar at all hours of the day. Rene's has a funky local vibe to it. The main problem is that you probably lose 5-years of your life each time you come here due to all of the smoke you inhale. You should wash your clothes and shower immediately upon leaving here; which could be a good pick-up line.

Everyone there was having a good time and was super friendly - couples were dancing, dogs were running around, and children were playing. It was just an all around good mood atmosphere kind of place. I think what highly contributes to that are the people kinds of people who come, and the owner, Leroy. Very personable kind of guy who just seems to love what he does. The food menu changes everyday I believe. Today we had hamburgers and french fries. We ordered 4 burgers and fries, and one plate of just fries and the total came to $30 even. The burger was decent and so were the fries. There are parking spots for your boat so it's a great stop if you are along the river.

Growing up in South Louisiana I spent a lot of time in Grand Isle. Heading there we would always stop at a friend's gas station/fishing supply/bar on the way to the island. I always remember the old men sitting at the bar laughing and drinking while we tried to convince my parents to buy us candy. Throughout the years I have visited many a boat launch and marina in Louisiana fishing communities with similar businesses. These places have always reminded me of those family trips and they always bring me great joy. After a recent trip to Boutte's for dinner, I discovered another place that made my quite happy. Cochiara is the convenience store/bar next to a boat launch. There used to be hotel rooms here, but I think they no longer exist. Inside is much more of a bar than convenience store, but there are chips and soft drinks should you need supplies for a fishing trip. The crowd was primarily local, but very friendly. I think I was tested by some locals when they noticed me singing David Alan Coe, but I must have passed with flying colors as they welcomed us with open arms. This may have been because I am a very likable guy with an incredible knowledge of country music. If you're not me, or not with me, you may have issues, but I will be glad to offer pointers for a small fee. The jukebox was stocked with old country classics, but also had some surprises including Madonna. The beer selection was somewhat lacking unless you are a fan of Bud products. When asked what beer they had besides Bud Light, the bartender advised of us of no less than seven different Bud products. If I buy a camp in Lafitte I will become a regular here. Even if I don't, I will make sure and stop on every trip I make. Note: I am thinking bars like this would make a great UYE. I wonder if we can figure out a way to do all waterfront bars one night.

The crowd is very young here, mostly college age, with a few older people sprinkled in. This bar is conveniently located next to two other popular bars which you can pop in and out of. The bartenders and staff here are also college age but everyone was friendly and attentive. The music was mostly top 40s and songs from the 2010's which the crowd enjoyed. My only complaint was that the area around the bathroom on the second level by the bar smelt like urine, as if people urinated on the walls near the bathroom. It smelt like a train station in this area. Otherwise, I enjoyed my time at this bar. There was also police presence inside of the bar checking for underaged drinking. The parking in the area was decent as there were many spots available alongside of the small creek.

The pole in the corner also offers not only a great sitting area for small parties of friends, but great entertainment when others climb on up and see who can do the best strip tease. But watching the entire team sit down together for a meal an hour before service told me everything I needed to know about the leadership and the values of this company. People matter here. You can see why the sandwiches are as good as they are. You can feel why the king cake is worth the wait. This team operates like a family; kind to one another, intentional, and connected. The food is made with care because the people are cared for. I'm not here to review the food (which is phenomenal) or the king cake. I'm here to review the brand.
