I asked why the issue was and they said that they didn't plan for enough staff which sounds like some mismanagement to me. Families with small children--Be AWARE RV generators are allowed to run until 10PM with LOUD NOISE! The campsite itself is wonderful -- beautifully situated right by Lake Berryessa. The restrooms are available and clean (I honestly don't know why others complain about them), and the staff who manage the site are nice and responsive.we stayed at #16. The only major downside is the campground's policy on generators for RV. They allow them to run until 10 p.m., which can be unbearable for families with little kids who go to bed earlier. Our children are 7 and 5, and the constant noise at night made it very difficult for them to sleep. When I asked our immediate neighbor number 15 if she could turn it off earlier, she said management had told her it was permitted until 10 p.m. I called management after hour number and was given the same answer. Unfortunately, once everything quiets down at night, the generator noise becomes even more disruptive. It was a very uncomfortable experience for us, and unless this policy changes, we won't be returning or recommending the campground to our friends -- which is a shame, because the location and facilities are otherwise excellent. read more

The staff is amazing. Friendly helpful and definitely respectful. Now I've only gone in the winter "non season" I will say it's nice since it's not busy. However in season, personally the camp sites are just too close together. That's my personal opinion but this is also coming from someone who backpacks and enjoy disperse camping. I recently stayed at Steele Canyon Campground, and unfortunately, I won't be returning. While a few sites offer good water access, the campsites themselves are crammed together, providing little to no privacy. During my stay, neighboring campers were extremely disruptive--blasting music, leaving trash everywhere, and generally being disrespectful. When we first arrived, someone with a day pass was blocking our access to the site, and it took over 45 minutes to find the person and have them move. Additionally, the dumpsters were full from the moment we arrived, and it only got worse after some neighbors unloaded a trunk FULL of trash which they spilled everywhere and didn't bother to clean up. On top of that, the same group of campers had two off-leash doodle mixes that repeatedly ran and jumped all over us, especially when we went down to the water. One of the dogs pooped in the water where we were trying to fish, and the owners did nothing to clean up after them. Overall, the combination of poorly maintained facilities (we did see a camp host on Sunday who came to remove and clean some of the trash), overcrowded campsites, and inconsiderate campers made for a very disappointing experience. read more

To call this place horrendous would be a compliment. Let's start by the highlight of the camping trip. We unfortunately got to the campground around 7:45pm on a Thursday and the gate was locked. To our surprise, this is variable dependent on how the staff feels. The contract does state that the campground closes for entry anywhere between 4-7pm, but they also have been flexible in the past. Their star employee, Cindy, answered the after hours phone and was extremely rude! This lazy woman simply said "sorry, pull over on the side of the road and wait until 7am I'm not letting you in." I understand rules, I understand the need to close gates at the end of the night, but come on, this campground generates thousands of dollars a month from year round camping. Upgrade your system! People travel from all over to visit your camp, and to add to that outdated technology at the front desk, you add an extremely unpleasant woman to "assist" customers, making the whole experience awful. We turned around and unfortunately had to wait until the next night to get in. To our surprise, they had the gates open til 9pm! If Cindy wants to throw the contract we signed in our face then adhere to the rules 100% rather than being flexible when you feel like it. In addition, campsites are FILTHY!!! We were in the 28-26 campsites, and every single site in our group had an incredible amount of nails. They should get Cindy out there to clean up sites instead of sitting glamorously at the front desk being a putrid woman to customers. If you don't like your job, leave! Finally, the boat launch area is very easy and one of the better ones in the area. No water available, unless you drive a ways up into the campsite. My advice, look elsewhere! read more

This place has gone down hill now corporate owned by some company out of Arizona. Horrible customer service. Pretty proud of a place that letteraly only offers a dirt spot with zero amenities. Our group had to cancel due to extreme temperatures over Labor Day weekend. You cannot run generators after 10pm so we would literally be suffering from heat illness without AC. Since we cancelled inside thier 14 day cancelllaton policy, they took all of our money without any offer to re book. When you call the 800 number to the resort, you get a corporate operator that could care less of the issue. I was told 3 times they would have Steele Canyon contact me about the issue and I never heard a word. This place is a JOKE..total waste. Used to be pretty awesome back when there were amenities. All long gone. Do yourself a favor and skip this place! There are far better options around the area. read more

Here's my disappointment. The cost does not justify the stay. Sun outdoors recently acquired this campground. And are now charging sun outdoors prices. I've stayed at other sun outdoor rv resorts and they are well kept. So at those places I'll pay the premium. But don't charge premium for a dry, no amenities campground. Once the campground starts being developed then charge more. But in the meantime when you haven't done anything to the campground keep the prices at what the campground is worth. And the new woman at the gate is super rude. I do miss the old berryessa. Such a disappointment read more

This was our first time visiting the lake, as we were staying over the weekend for the Lake Berryessa swim. We arrived Thursday, and All and all the campsite was ok- super barren with very little shade, lots of trash, and run down picnic tables. Unfortunately there was a fire ban put in place the day we headed up so we were unaware that we wouldn't be able to cook anything (we ended up having to drive back to town for cold and no perishable food Irene's to keep us going over the trip). While this is certainly not anyones fault, a more updated website would be much appreciated, as there was also a huge lack of information about areas we could swim, boat, etc. and the paper map given at the front was very basic. I highly recommend coming early to set up camp because it's really hard to read some of the numbers painted on the grills to tell which campsite is which. Got super busy Friday night with lots of noisy rvs, and unfortunately a lot of them didn't follow the guidelines about quiet hours. (I don't mind mild noise and music passed midnight as everyone is just trying to have a good vacation, but there was blasting music and yelling well into the wee hours.) I will be back next year for the same swim, but will definitely look into a camper van as the campsites are very, very dry and dusty and without shade, making it kind of miserable during peak heat hours. read more

This is not my first or second visit I stay very close to this boat launch but would much rather travel to Pleasure or Marley Coves; Despite staying less than 1 mile away. I understand that the area is under new management. The first step is to provide some training to the lady at the gate, I was unable to even get her name because she was very rude and dismissive. I am sure I am not the only individual she has treated this way. Hopefully with the proposed new redevelopment staff changes will occur. Over the weekend I visited the day use and Lake Berryessa at Steele Canyon Park. The girls at the front gate were amazing-so helpful and funny! Sadly though, I just couldn't believe the amount of trash that is all over the park and the ungroomed landscaping. I give it 4 stars mainly because the girls were so awesome, but I'd really love to see the place cleaned up and not so full of trash if I came back! read more

I had a great time here a couple of weekends ago! Our site was nice and clean, and was right next to a little cove that we fished out of for all 3 days (caught some fish!). The campground is very beautiful and scenic, and very peaceful as well (albeit, we went here Sun-Tues, which is probably why it was so peaceful!). There were 3 of us on this trip, and the campsite had ample room for our 2 cars, 2 tents, a canopy, and all our gear. Our site had one picnic table, one bbq grill, and one fire pit. I grew up camping, but this was my first time camping in 5+ years, which made this trip extra enjoyable! The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because this campground is lacking the creature comforts of a running water faucet at your campsite, and available showers on site. The lack of faucet isn't too much of a big deal because we just used a big water jug and/or a refillable water jug to was dishes etc.. There is a water station within the campground however. The lack of showers, especially during this 100 degree weekend did suck a bit, but luckily we have one of those portable tent shower things, which btw was a life saver! As far as bathrooms go, there are porta potties with a hand wash station near each campsite, so that's a plus. Overall, I had an excellent time here, and would come back in a heartbeat! read more

I went in the springtime when everything was green and there are lots of nice hiking trails. Very thankful it was quiet as I've heard it can be a party scene in the summertime. Everyone was kind and respectful and lots of kids running around playing, fishing, paddle boarding. They have a day camping spot and sometimes my kids and I go picnic and fishing. There's no lifeguard and some of the shallows the mud is mushy, swampy and gross so watch out where you go on the lakes edge. read more

Nice size camp grounds with picnic tables and fire pits also BBQ grill. Some spots bigger than others and campgrounds are well kept. Water front sites available which was good for dropping anchor with boats and P.W.C so you dont have to launch and re-launch every time you want to come a shore. No running water so bring lots of bottled water. Bathrooms are kept well and plenty available. Might be a good idea in the summer to to bring insect repellent or yellow jacket traps as in the evenings they seem to come out but mainly in the summer season. We make trips year round and haven't had any trouble in the off seasons. In the summer and fall the lake water is nice and warm. People seem to be friendly most of the time here and the staff is very nice and insightful. read more

This is an RV camping review. Great part of (south) Lake Berryessa with good launch area, many primitive canping sites, and lots of places for self contained rv's to find a spot of blue water to enjoy. The prime use here is boating, but you can also find good cove areas to swim in relative solitude. In fact many of them, and short hiking opportunities do exist, but you may be tramping before you know it. Would I come back, yes, mostly for the natural beauty, wildlife viewing (lots of osprey), and great views from many of the dry camping sites. Good for any water sports but be aware depending on the weather this can be motor boat central. With 85 sites, it still feels pretty small, because there are like 4 to 5 different sections to camp in, which makes it feel smaller, perhaps less crowded than otherwise. Very busy, when summer boating season is in full swing. Try the shoulder seasons for a chance at a bit more solitude. Generally speaking a nice clientele here, and although this place was developed decades ago, and looks a bit tired, it is maintained adequately. There are many rules here for (fire) safety, please do your part, and try to keep it clean. read more

Have been launching our boat here for years. Camped once. Nice place, great boat launch when there is enough water in the lake. The people at the front gate have always been pleasant. I suggest the other yelpers consider how they speak to others and how that can alter their response. Never had any issues. They have hours. We launch and pull out by them. You show up late, you don't get in. Seems like a fair rule to me. I know I like to go home at the end of a workday..... Tons of friends camp here annually and always rave about it. They have beautiful rental boat slips if you want to keep your boat in the water while you camp. I do wish they had a store w/ some supplies. Bathrooms are porta-poddies. So you know what to expect. Considering how little they charge for camping and launching, I'd say they are doing a fantastic job running the place. Maybe they should up their fees and roll out the red carpet for some of these yelpers. Seriously, people, it's a boat launch and campground, not the four seasons. read more

I have been trying to cancel a reservation setup for June for five days now and the Steele Canyon campground team refuses to answer the phone, return calls or emails. I have called the parent company Sun RV Resorts and they also will not answer the phone, rerun calls or engage in any way. Very unprofessional and making it impossible to cancel a reservation in order to get a refund. Buyer beware!!! read more

Have been coming here to use the boat launch almost my entire life, and will continue to although we had an unfortunate experience a few weeks ago. Just a word of advice since they do not keep payment records when entering and only time stamp the your time of arrival, make sure you ask for a some sort of proof of payment; a receipt, written note, or just video when paying. We paid for a day pass for our car and for the truck and boat behind us, yet they still charged the truck after we heard the two employees confirm with each other we had paid for both. Once politely bringing it up at the end of the day we were very rudely denied by the same two employees and sent on our way. No hard feelings, lesson learned on our end on how business works at this launch. Just wanted to make sure it doesn't happen to our fellow lake goers. Stay safe out there friends. :) read more

we like lake Berryessa, whether we are in a day use area or camping. Our friends love camping at Lupine shores. It is where the hotel and restaurant were back in the day. Water is close to campsites. My only issue with it is that there are no hookups. So it dry camping which is okay but they charge 28 bucks per night yet this only covers two people. Each additional person ie. our children (if over 4) which mine are, cost another 5 bucks each per night, same for dogs. So 4 people and 2 dogs = 58 bucks a night and NO hookups! a little pricey.. still quite beautiful though. read more

The windy roads to get here suck butt! we had to stop and pull over to ask how to get to Lupine Shores, apparently we passed it, the sign wasn't noticeable... you make a right at the abandon white building. It was my first time here, most of my groups had been here before. They don't have running water until 2013.... the Porter potties weren't too bad. They didn't smell like most BUT i will say some people are very disgusting at this camp site .... who in their right mind poops on the side of the toilet?? gross! You can tell they didn't miss on accident!! The listing on the doors shows they only clean them once a week (Friday) by Sunday they were very disgusting. I found a portable camping shower at Big 5 that came with the solar shower (fills up to 5 gallons of water) $27. We hung in on a tree for those who needed a shower. Came in handy. Campsite was nice, near by for the boat dock. The only cons about our stay was the weather was very over cast... sprinkling through the day, humid, thunder storm AND VERY VERY WINDY at site's 58/59. Sunday morning was finally nice & out, as we were leaving. Our group was smaller than usual, of course we were still getting complaints... I guess it's not camping unless you get complaints ha ha. They let us know if we get one more warning after curfew "10:00pm" we would have to pack up and leave .... read more

I really love Lake Berryessa and I had an amazing time relaxing with friends over the weekend. With respects to this specific camp ground, the area was cool, lots of space for tents and extras. But beware, the bees come out in abundance as soon as the sun rises or you start making any sort of food, they are relentless. When the sun goes down, the gnats come out, be sure to be prepared to keep food covered completely. Also, because its fall hour, it seems that the port a potty isn't dumped as often, I would say it was 3/4 the way full. It makes it difficult & uncomfortable to use it when the flys are swarming and the waste is grossly near the top. Other than the normal bugs and potty stuff, the ground are cool and you cant beat the view! read more

We have been camping here for years and we just came back from a 3 night stay there. Unfortunately we had to deal with the rudest unethical employee her name was Cindy. SO RUDE. she overcharged me after already paying online so when I went back to my campsite I got an email stating she had charged me for 6 additional adults so I called her to correct the problem. My brother in-law was at her station at the time i hung up with her and after we hung up he said she called me every name in the book my brother in-law was shocked to hear all the bad names she called me but maintained being cordial. As we left i confronted her to ask her name politely and i told her that she was overheard calling me every name in the book she stormed off and said she was done talking and i got back in my car when my husband heard he shout F*** You. I was in shock that an employee would be so unprofessional and foul mouthed. that was the most horrible experience and i dont understand why a company would have such an employee to work for them. this is only the beginning I plan on escalating the situation further. Nice, clean campground. Most of the day use areas are super steep and rocky, possibly because the water is higher than usual??? We took water shoes and it was fine!! We camped in sites 41-42, nice long sites that fit our trailers perfectly! The 40's loop has minimal shade (luckily our site had the most so we were good) but the sites near us were probably pretty hot!! Definitely bring a canopy! Also our sites appeared to be by a swim area on the camp map... but really it was a cliff with a cove at the bottom... not very suitable if you wanted a close walking distance swim spot. We ended up driving down the path a little ways and found a nice swim spot. If you trailer camp the dump station is not user friendly!! It's on a down hill so the trailer was lower than the dump... we had to keep twisting the tube up to get it to drain! We had a great time but found we like a few Other places better... read more

Large caping area, reserve ahead of time. Fire pit, picnick table, charcoal grill. You arent allowed to bring your own charcoal grill, but you can bring propane grill/stove. Great views, Eagle nest... Vultures as well! Porta pottys well kept, clean with water and soap to eash hands. No showers. (That I can find) Camp sites are a small hike from the lake, get up early and claim your spot on the beach. Nearest convenience store is 15 miles away, turtle rock bar and cafe. Stop by before getting in, its a bit outta the way but better then getting all the way in and then going back. They sell bundles of fire wood at the gate, $10 is enough for about a night (we stayed up late around the fire) We had a GREAT time, my 68 year old mother in law had a hard time getting up and down from the camp to the water, but even she had a great time inspite of that. There are 2 more camp grounds I know of here, I'll need to check them out too. read more

Very beautiful lake! Dry camping (no water, or electricity) We came on a Friday-Sunday. The Porta Potties were clean Friday but pretty filled and dirty by Sunday...campsites are pretty spacious but close to the next site with just a white painted line separating them. Not too many trees so bring a canopy! Our site was #67 and we had a terrific view of the lake! You can even bring your dogs. They just have to be on a leash at the campsites. She loved the lake! Our neighbors next to us were awesome! It can get loud at night so bring ear plugs. We had some people across from us with a big group playing Kareoke till 2am...Other them these things I would still recommend coming here! read more

I have always liked Steele Canyon Campground. As an avid camper, I often head up there last-minute to get out of town for a night. I have never booked an online reservation and have always found spots available. This week I actually planned ahead - I drove up to Steele Canyon last weekend and scoped out all of the sites to see which one I wanted to book, and when I got back home, I tried to book a site online only to find that there was a 2-night minimum stay. I emailed the company and also called to find out whether I could do a 1-night stay if I drive up without a reservation, and they told me no. I have NEVER stayed more than 1 night at this campground and I am completely baffled that they maintain that "this has always been the policy". There are SO many sites available - I can see it by looking at the website, yet they will turn away business for less than a 2-night stay? I truly don't get it. read more

Boat launch is nice with plenty of parking, day use is nice with a great cove for swimming. We camped here for the first time the weekend before Fourth of July and it was fully booked. We got two huge tent/rv sites. Each site could accommodate 3 tents, multiple canopies and a few cars. We were even able to beach our 20ft boat in the cove overnight. They also have dumpsters nearby and plenty of porta potties that were kept pretty clean. I always bring Clorox wipes with me when I camp just to clean toilet seats lol. There were a few negatives. 1- there was broken glass covering a large area at both of our sites (30 and 31) 2- the table at one of the sites was so warped I could only use one end of it for my stove but we brought several tables of our own. 3- at least half of both sites were covered in prickly weeds that were very sharp. I put tarps down and set the tents up over the weeds. We will go again just because the sites are big and quick access to the lake. read more

Been up there twice so far this year. Friendly staff and great customer service. A sheriff can usually be spotted roaming around so it's pretty well regulated. This summer is going to be busy with the lake being full so reservations are going to be difficult. It's also dry camping with no RV hookups but there are porta potties with hand wash stations. The boat dock is good and they are installing a marina soon. Both visits have been good. The sites near the water are the best obviously...but they are all relatively close to the boat dock. I wish there was more camping at Lake Berryessa but this is a good spot if you can land a reservation. read more

The rangers here were very helpful and kind! Our family went camping for the first time and we were so glad their rules weren't awfully strict at all. Campsites 50-60 were nice and peaceful and there was access to the lake from all around. There was enough shade and best of all, no bees or mosquitoes - even at night. One can sleep peacefully because there's no loud music allowed after 10:00 pm. You can bring your dogs and allow them to swim in the lake! They just have to be on their leash at the campsite because other campgrounds have their own larger dogs while our puppies were pretty small. There's a market called Larry's Produce about 25 minutes from the campsite itself and they sell everything! It's just quite far, down the twisting roads but be sure to stop by there before entering the campsite to make sure you have everything, like ice. Be sure to bring your own water, cooler, and everything you'll need but don't bring a BBQ grill because they already provide that and a picnic table. They don't have bathrooms, only portable bathrooms which are cleaned every morning on busy weekends like Friday-Sunday. And best of all, the lake is not that cold in the shallow end. The freshwater gets heat up by the sun in the afternoon and is great for swimming or baths. Our family would be sure to come back here! It's just a perfect place to camp! And last very important tip! WEAR WATER SHOES! The beaches are rocky and you don't want to scratch your feet while swimming or walking. The dry grass also scratches so water shoes are a MUST! They are less than $20 at Big 5. ;D Have fun camping! read more
