My husband and I contracted a barn/shop with Steel Structures of America in Colorado Springs area and are not at all satisfied with the build quality or service provided. The steel siding quality is not at all good. Build quality is mediocre at best. But the biggest complaint is with crew quality and dependability. They went through at least two crew changes with no communications to us from crew lead or company management. They do not respond to our calls but demand payment for incomplete work. We still have permit completion issues with county authority. read more

We have no issues with the quality of the building. Our issue was with the sub who decided to place the building where he thought it should go and was condescending to my wife. Met with Steel Structures in 2020 re barn options, rep was great, best I've worked with. Signed a contract in 2021, began working schedules and Nov they dropped materials. Early Dec construction began, crew asked about weekends, we told them any day/time. They never worked a weekend and often no show on weekdays. The crew ran extension cords from my front porch, later figured out the run was too long, needed something closer or said I might have to rent a generator, might be cheaper to buy. A reputable company would provide a generator. The frame was up and most sheet metal installed late Dec, due to crew errors more sheet metal was ordered. With missing sheet metal and no doors, the company began sending notices/calling for final payment. Refusing to pay, the notices continued until I elevated the situation. Over the holidays, without communication even though I tried MANY times to reach them, not another workday until after the new year. Early Jan sheet metal is complete, now we need the 3 panel style barn doors, but no coil springs so no install. Mar 2022 I begin to push, indicate negative reviews, winter is almost over, and I don't have a usable barn. Eventually they ship coils from the east coast, doors installed, barn complete. Then an additional bill cost of material increase comes, over $1200 for a barn already significantly higher than expected. We agree on half the cost, paid in full. I notify the company of a large pile of scrap, trash and other and I'm advised it's my responsibility. Unbelievable! Not surprising the great sales rep left the company. They can't communicate, they don't review contract prior to build to verify responsibilities, no final walk through, leave trash/materials for homeowner, fail to secure materials leaving 16' sheet metal all over, almost made me buy a generator, and overall poor business practices. Barn looks great and functional, but the experience was terrible short of the sales and QC reps. Never again! read more

Stay far away from this business. They take your money and then fail to follow through. Gave them first payment in May for an 8 week start date. Called to get a start date. From then on nothing but excuses, excuses, excuses. More money, more delay, excuses. Finally did get a building out of them 7 months later! What the ****, yes approx. seven months. Meanwhile across the street another building had a much larger building completed in 10 days. All I can say is buyer beware. Going up to inspect the project this weekend, we will see if they actually follow through on any punch list items before giving them final payment. Steel Structures America gave an estimate, sight unseen - only through a verbal description, for my project. 3 months later I contacted them to get started on my project. By that time my parameters had changed. The sales representative was not hard sell, but he did not let me off the hook. Of course since I was interested, it wasn't difficult for him. The time line that the sales rep gave me was quite accurate. I think it was only about 5 - 6 days longer than the estimate to get the plans created, approved, and the building package started. This gave me time to complete the site prep as needed. I was given a start date for the build and Andy MacArthur of MacArthur Construction actually started 2 - 3 days early. Bonus! MacArthur Construction kept at it for long days until it was completed. They encountered several obstacles and successfully overcame each one. At this point I have more work to do to be ready for the next stages, but I am confident the project will stay on schedule. read more

Very poor service after signing the contract. Was difficult to even get someone to talk to us about issues (e.g. material used was inferior to what was quoted in the bid; grade was not taken into account), and no action taken on their part to resolve issues. Finally, the building would not even pass the county inspection, so we had to spend a lot of money changing the landscape to accommodate their incompetence in layout. read more
