Sometimes the simplest places are the ones that end up impressing you the most. Steak Out has been around forever, and after finally stopping in, I completely understand why. From the outside it looks like your classic neighborhood cheesesteak shop, but once you walk inside you're greeted by a surprisingly warm, rustic dining room filled with old license plates, wood accents, and just enough local character to make you want to sit down instead of grabbing your food and leaving. I ordered a cheesesteak, and this thing was absolutely loaded. Not one of those sandwiches where half the roll is empty--every bite was packed with tender, finely chopped steak. The meat was flavorful, cooked perfectly, and the cheese was melted throughout instead of just sitting on top. Sometimes cheesesteaks try to get fancy with a hundred toppings. This one proves you don't need any of that when the basics are done right. The surprise of the meal, though, was dessert. I figured I'd finish with a slice of cheesecake, expecting something ordinary. I was wrong. It was rich, creamy, and the perfect way to end the meal. It's the kind of dessert that makes you slow down and enjoy every bite. Service was friendly, the restaurant was spotless, and the atmosphere felt comfortable--exactly the kind of place you could bring family, grab lunch with coworkers, or stop by after a long day. South Jersey has no shortage of places claiming to have a great cheesesteak, but Steak Out has earned its reputation. When you combine generous portions, quality ingredients, a welcoming dining room, and a fantastic dessert, it's easy to see why this place has been a local favorite for so many years. I would say this is the best Philly cheesesteak sandwich I've ever had in New Jersey. Now granted it's about 20 minutes from Philly so they better be doing it right. I'm from North Jersey so I typically never order Philly cheesesteaks as they're usually not that great by me. But this place had assigned saying they won some type of award so I figured I'd give it a shot. The waitress was very nice and I just ordered a plain Philly cheesesteak with American cheese and I got the small. I'm glad I got this small because it took me two sittings to finish this sandwich. The thing came and it was huge, it was about a foot long. It was $15 and it could definitely feed two people. When I bit into it I could tell why they have won awards before. The meat was so tender and the cheese was mixed throughout the whole sandwich, not just on the top. The bread was a sesame seeded bun and it was nice and soft. Something about that bread, cheese and steak mixed together That just tastes so good. I would definitely return here for a cheesesteak and maybe even get something different. From the outside it looks like a fast food restaurant, but from the inside it's kind of like a diner. There's a bunch of tables. A decent cheesesteak, with a confusing ordering vernacular, that has since been cleared up it seems. When I ordered, back in the day, you had to pick a "half," or a "whole." The thing is, a half IS A WHOLE! A "HALF" is a TEN INCH CHEESESTEAK! "Half" of a heart attack maybe, but certainly not HALF of a sandwich. So, I of course ordered a "whole," thinking that meant a whole sandwich, and when I went to pay, and was told that the price was ALMOST THIRTY DAMN DOLLARS, I started asking some questions, and finally got to the bottom of things. They converted my "whole" to a "half," but they were very annoyed about it. It appears that on their menu, they have added some verbiage to explain the above misunderstanding. I'm not saying it was because of me, but I'm not NOT saying it either. Anywho, the steak was good, but if you're asking ME, I don't think it was $13-$15" good. I guess that's the going price for a cheesesteak these days, but around that same amount will get you a whopper of a delicious cheesesteak over at Brynn Bradley. So, I guess it's how you see it. The store itself is small, and densely packed with tables inside. Very dark, but still clean and nice. It would be next level all the spices on the meat flowed together with the garlic bread I was very pleased with it. It is a good pizza/sandwich shop nearby. We have a lot of tough completion, which is why I'm only giving it 4 stars. We like their sandwiches and Stromboli more then their pizza. We frequently order cheesesteaks, pizza steaks, pepperoni Stromboli, and more. The service may take a bit, but they are always very friendly. Legit delicious cheesesteaks. Definitely too pricey when ordering using online delivery apps, but actual store prices are fair. Really high quality meat & rolls. Steak Out has been around since my children were little. They take my grandchildren there now. My brother was in the Air Force & lived in quite a few places. He said no place is better than Steak Out. Whenever he comes to NJ he makes a beeline to it. It was my parents favorite place. I'm Vegan & they have options for me as well. That's how good this place is. They have a huge variety of options including ostrich burgers, & pastas. All reasonably priced. The servers are always so nice & the kitchen doesn't mind taking special orders. The food is cooked to order & the wait isn't too long. It's a nice clean place with plenty of room for maneuvering. We had no trouble getting in & out with Mom's wheelchair. The decor is very interesting. It's Western & the items on the walls look like originals. Saddles, etc. People of all ages come in here. This is Daddy's big boy. Like the country song says; (sidebar - I loved the country decor) I can already see my big boy taking his team to the State Championship. I paid the extra $0.50 for the seeded roll. It was well worth it. I got the Steak Out special. It included the marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, peppers, mushrooms and fried onions. You can see in the video that the roll eventually gave way to the marinara. I would normally rip the roll for this. But I was taking a lot of pictures and held it up in the air for a long time. This is not ideal but understandable for the situation. The cheese looks good melted on top but I prefer it mixed in. I do like that it spent some time in an oven melting the cheese and getting a good little toast on the roll. Plenty of tables, nice little place and an overall very good experience. read more

I don't know shat happened to them. They used to be great and I would go there almost once a week in the summer months for lunch starting way back to almost when they first started in their tiny little building by Heritage's, but my last visit there in June 2022 was my last. I ordered two cheesesteaks to go with American cheese with one of them having fried onions. I live less than a mile away and also Steak Out is along the way to the ballpark so I called in my order before I left so I could have two really good cheesesteaks to eat at the game as I've done a couple of times before over the years. They were fresh and ready for me when I arrived so I picked them up and went on my way. The ride to the ballpark from Steak Out is only about 25 minutes away, provided you leave early enough to beat traffic and to hang out at your seats or to try to shag batting practice balls so the cheesesteaks and other food I've brought from home is always pretty fresh to eat when I arrive. Well, I went to my seat right away that day to eat first and watch practice. My cheesesteak with the fried onions was dry and barely edible. How does a cheesesteak with fried onions get so well, dry? The other cheesesteak my friend had was worse, I guess because there were no onions? How does a cheesesteak get so unbelievably dry in such a short time or actually ever? I and my friend couldn't eat them so we had to toss them and had to find other stuff to eat. I never told Steak Out and I'm not sure if my friend did or maybe they didn't so I can't speak for them, but as for me, I only get burnt once then usually stay away so yeah, ... I know it's been slightly over a year ago this happened as I write this so maybe things have changed? Maybe it was a bad day for them. Who knows? I'm sorry, but I'm not quiet ready to return yet. My buddy told us about this place and we finally got a chance to try it. It's a pretty cool BYOB eat-in/takeout spot. Our waitress was very friendly and super attentive. She was also kind enough to walk us through some different options on the extensive menu! I ended up ordering the Whiz Steak with added American Cheese, my wife got a Buffalo Chicken Steak Hoagie, and we ordered Steak Out Fries. My Cheesesteak was great...a TON of meat! They give you a plastic fork with the sandwich (which I originally was confused by) and that helps grab the little pieces that fall out. My wife's chicken steak was also quite delicious! The fries were just fries, nothin special. Good food, cool decor, and absolutely phenomenal service...we'll definitely be back! read more

Our lunch today was fantastic! I had the pepperoni cheese steak with fried onions green peppers and mushrooms. My son had the chicken cutlet with broccoli rabe and provolone and we split an order of fries. They serve your sandwiches with a fork which is certainly needed because they are over stuffed. We took half of our huge sandwiches home. These were by far the best sandwiches we've had in a very long time. This is a great place with exceptional service.
