Lord, this franchise has been around a while. David Martin (a local Huntsvillian) founded it in 1986. At one point, I believe, Steak out was affiliated with the group that includes Rosie's, Little Rosie's, Shaggy's Burgers and Tacos, Ted's BBQ, and Walton's Southern Table. Regardless of the business relationship - good on Mr. Martin and all the others behind these thriving locally originated businesses! Anyway, with 5 stores in Madison county and one in Athens, they are doing something right! Over the years, I've ordered SO for work lunches/meetings (being one of the few delivery places that can access Redstone Arsenal, and I'm pretty sure that would be *just* the Whitesburg Drive store, and then as a "treat" for me after a long work week on a Friday, not interested in cooking. Now, due to dietary restrictions (for the most part - I cheat every now and then), I have not had SO in years. Favorites when I was ordering SO were the steak tips (always good!), the ribeye (another - always good dish), grilled chicken, they had a tri-tip I was in love with for a while - don't see it on the current menu, and I think their "best value" dish is the center cut pork chop dinner where you get 2 pork chops plus sides, easily allowing for two meals. Their delivery has *always* been friendly, on time, and they've mastered the package for delivery like pros long before COVID. Those insulated bags the drivers bring the meals to you really work well combined with the styro containers - I've never had a lukewarm or cold meal delivered. I also love that they offer fat free salad dressing options. My brother, who has absolutely no shortcomings (yes, he is my favorite brother) is *addicted* to their tea! It's almost a daily obsession/requirement for him. Anyway, back in the 80s, 90s (you get it, back when), I would get actual hard copy paper gift certificates as gifts for sweet brother from the nearest SO. Now, for Christmas/his birthday they have an online gift certificate (email) that makes a really convenient way to gift him his (half sweet-half unsweet SO) tea 'fix.' In fact last time I visited a SO, was right before a 3 hour road trip I took with my brother and he needed his "fix" before the drive. Why no 5th star? For this particular store, it can ben a little difficult to get in and out, the slaughter road/72 intersection is so busy, and the parking lot is small-ish (brother has a giant pickup), with numerous SO delivery cars. I always come to this steak-out, atleast for the past few years. I have never once had an issue until this evening when I was being completely stared at and looked at up and down by not one but TWO cooks on the grill. I don't know if anybody else has this issue or if we were being profiled, but this has made my family and I very uncomfortable with the food because now we are unsure if they will do their best to serve us after the treatment inside of the store. Steak Out is a great delivery or carry out dinner option and this is by far our favorite location! Highly recommend the steak tips and baked potato. As a bonus, you'll get a complimentary drink if you pick your order up. Beware the phone lines stay busy and you will have to call multiple times to get through. I've ordered from here a handful of times, and I've been disappointed each time. The first time I ordered from this location my sweet tea was left out. The second time I ordered from here they forgot my baked potato. Tonight, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with a potato. The burger was supposed to be medium well but it was cooked to a crisp and extremely dry - the bun was also smooshed to hell. The potato was not fresh or hot and needed to be tossed several hours before it arrived to me. Two stars for quick delivery. read more

I just had the rudest lady ever at the register. She asked my name I told her. She ruined her eyes and said 'what is yoou NAME' I 'm actually shocked. I don't think I've ever experienced someone so outwardly obviously rude. I'm supposed she didn't say the words you're stupid'. I repeated my name again. She said 'what is it' in the most annoyed tone with a huff. I began telling her what my order was. She said 'oh my god, that's not what I asked & that's not important. I need your NAME!' I told her a 3rd time. Then she began repeating my order. I wanted to say 'I thought that wasn't important?''. She being rude. She alternating talking slow and disrespectfully like I was stupid and essentially yelling when demanding her answers. The other customers were shocked. I've been in restaurant management/ service industry for 24 years. I've never once made a complaint. Of course I have never heard anyone be so outwardly rude. I've also never thought this about someone, but she should be fired. Everyone else was as friendly as could be. I'm actually embarrassed I allowed her to disrespect me, talk down to me, and try overtly to make me look stupid like that. I can't believe it. Clearly your other employees are used to it and afraid to speak up. Which makes me afraid she's some kind of manager. I will never support this location again and feel it's important to spread the word. I have never thought that. 1 bad apple shouldn't reflect the business or team. But I'm as concerned that all of the others working heard that and weren't appalled. That implies working with her is probably hostile and the usual. Also, she could likely be the manager. Another good meal from Steak-Out. Over the years I have had countless Steak-Out deliveries and never had problem nor a bad meal. From chicken to burgers to steaks, all is good with Steak-Out. When you want something different than the typical pizza delivery, choose Steak-Out. I had a cheeseburger and baked potato. Both were very hot and cooked perfectly. They always provide the plastic utensils and all the condiments from butter to sour cream. The person who delivered the food was very polite and greeted me as Mr. _____ as I opened the door. I've never left a review of any place but this Steak Out location finally forced my hand in creating a Yelp account and reviewing them. I ordered four salads with four drinks and requested honey mustard for two of the salads, ranch for one and spicy ranch for the other. Upon the food's arrival we opened the bags and found that we were short one salad, two packs of utensils, four straws, and honey mustard for one salad. I called back and reported what happened and the employee on the other end of the conversation had me list everything that was missing to her twice so that we could get my missing items. Received a quick "we're sorry and we'll be there as soon as we can." Assuming that quality control would have been enforced I didn't think to check the bags the second driver brought. After opening the bags I see that I did receive my salad and the two utensils, but also had received 3 spicy ranch, and 2 lite ranch cups but no honey mustard and no straws. This has just been one too many times where Steak Out has failed to bring the right items or failed to bring any items at all. Order food from this location at your own risk, however, I recommend picking up your own food and checking it in the parking lot before you leave. read more

I'll give it a 3 star. But I thought about giving it a 1 star because of the inability to actually place an order in a timely manner. Over the course of an hour I called over 40 times and never got through. It took me about an hour and ten minutes to get my order placed. I would have gone somewhere else if it hadn't been the place that my wife wanted to eat at. Well, the food was ok. My steak tips were way overcooked and a bit chewy and I ordered mine medium rare to try to prevent them from being pieces of Jerky. The hamburger was like a big dry hockey puck and my son had trouble eating it. The only reason I gave a 3 is because my wife and daughter loved it. I was thoroughly unimpressed. Especially when it is so expensive. Heard about this place in a training class. Wish they had a dining room, take-out only. I got the Ribeye dinner and was very impressed! I was able to eat it right out of the foil they wrapped it in! I miss Steak Out so much! Although I'm a vegetarian and there are not too many options for me, I can always depend on a really great salad with a perfectly baked potato with cheese on the side. I'm not sure what this place does to potatoes that is not being done at other restaurants, but every potato at Steak Out, no matter which one I visit, is consistently fluffy, and perfectly cooked throughout.
