Stopped by Steak 'n Shake while my wife was shopping across the street at Sawgrass Mills Mall. This is a very convenient spot to grab a quick bite and relax for a bit. Ordering was easy at the self-serve kiosk, and once I checked out, I found a clean table to hang out at while waiting for my food. It took about 15 minutes for my name to be called, which felt a little long for a "quick-serve" place. I went with ýthe double cheeseburger, fries, and a sweet tea. The burger was your typical smashed-patty style cooked on a flat top -- decent, nothing extraordinary. The fries, thin and crispy like shoestring potatoes, are cooked in beef tallow, which seems to be a trendy move these days. I liked them with a heavy dose of ketchup. The dining area is bright, modern, and comfortable. It's a nice place to sit while escaping the mall crowds. Parking's easy since it's right by Walmart and just outside the Sawgrass Mall entrance. Overall, a solid three-star experience. It's a reliable choice if you're in the mood for fast food near the mall, but nothing that really stands out. My only regret? I never leave bad reviews and I'm a huge fan of steak and shake but the combo of insanely rude staff, service time, and missing items. Plus it took 45 minutes for two burgers and fries. They did say all the staff is new and under training which wouldn't have made me write a bad review. But the attitude of the staff was out of control. They did give us large drinks for the wait but even that came with an attitude. If you're working customer service you don't need to be extremely rude. read more

SMASH BUT NO SHAKE... My first ever Smash Burger today at Steak 'n Shake which most people would say is blasphemy. I had to find out what all the hype was toward their renowned cheese steakburgers. Firstly, a human cashier does not exist here. I had to figure out the digital screen menu then pay in cash since I rarely use credit cards for food purchases. The menu navigation was simple to add a smash burger to my order but they continued to upsell other items like drinks and sides which was annoying. I only wanted a Double Smash Cheese Burger and thats what I clicked on. The order was digitally transferred to the cook and watched as my burger was prepared on the flat grill. Thin smoke began to rise from the beef as the cook pressed down hard with the steel spatula to create the "Smash" effect. The decor was the iconic red and white 1950s theme complemented with old black & white wall photos, gumball machines and a plush toy claw machine. The retro decor continued through the clean bathrooms with black and white checkered wall tiles and floors. Within a few minutes, my double Smash was ready for consumption. As I starred at my burger with a smile, the cook told me that I was gonna love it. After only one bite it was obvious that her comment was all truth, as was confirmed by the yum yum sounds coming from my full mouth. Super juicy seasoned 100% beef with the thin pickle crunch added the perfect combination. At under $6.00, the size and flavor of the burger was a fantastic value. Steak and shake has a big variety of different burgers. My family and I dined in and they have a kiosk machine that you place your order and you can pay with cash, credit/ debit card and even bitcoin. On the kiosk they ask if you want to provide tip. The floor was a little sticky but the place looked overall clean. Sophia was very helpful and provided great customer service. When you order a drink they give you a QR code to scan to get the drink. I had my hands occupied and Sophia helped me out. Overall the experience and the food was great. read more

The hours of operation are open until midnight. I arrived at the drive thru intercom at 11:50 with 2 cars ahead of me waiting at the windows ahead getting their food. I was told on the intercom they were closed for the night. This is utter laziness by the employee and dishonesty. No wonder this place has such low stars. I was in the area and hadn't been to a Steak 'n Shake for years so I decided to stop for a quick bite. I'm not sure how so many of the reviewers had such a bad experience here because mine was just fine. I haven't been to a Steak n Shake, as I said, for years, so I'm not sure if this is how they do it at all of them now, but you need to order at a kiosk whether you're getting it to go or dining in. Ordering was very simple, you order and then just scan your credit card. They also have a register available for those who prefer to pay with cash. Within a few minutes our burgers and fries were ready. Food was nice and hot and really good. I love their thin fries topped with cheese and the burger was nice and juicy. Why a restaurant chain hovering on the brink of bankruptcy would operate in a manner like this is baffling. Unless they've already given up. The KIOSK ordering is absolutely infuriating. The system is harder to navigate than the bar exam. The employees clearly couldn't give a damn about ANYTHING. The booths, tables and floors are not kept clean, and the food is an underwhelming combination of rather expensive and just not very good. With fries so limp that you can tie them in a knot. First I was surprised the slow service as there was only one car ahead of me. Once I got to the order screen was surprised I was told to wait. No wonder why the long wait they must be short staffed. I ordered a vanilla shake and was surprised on their order board every item had calories lists but the vanilla chocolate and strawberry shakes. When I get to the window to pay I noticed the filthy outside window. Than once the window opens you get hot with this pungent smell of fry oil. It was truly gross worse than body odor if you could imagine anything to be worse. Than I was handed the shake. It's been years since I have gotten one from them and the whipped cream was not real. Steak and shake "new" (for me) format: self serve! Let me say that it works! Now you enter and go to the self-ordering station, where you enter your order. The seating area was empty at 430pm- but started filling up soon after: so we had our choice of seats. Then they call your number and you pick up your tray and eat! No more waiting for the waitress to seat you, take your order and bring your food to you ... Food (burgers) were as good as I remember- pattys are small, but flavorful- cheese is cheese and they add the fixings you request. We did get a bowl of chili to share and it was quite tasty and very hot. Overall: self serve worked! I think the food was available faster than before- oh and this location now also has a drive thru! The lowdown on this place is that the milkshakes and steak burgers are awesome . Even more awesome is the fact that they are open 24 hours!! I have definetly come here more than a dozen times past 2 in the morning and have gotten great milkshakes and burgers. My only deterrent from coming here is that I know that if I'm coming here, I'm doomed to have to wait around 20-30 minutes in the drive through. It seems that quality has its price and your time is the sacrifice you make to the burger gods for such a delicious treat being available all day and night long! However preparation is key.( pop in an awesome album on the car stereo and prepare for your journey through one of the longest drive throughs known to man....)yet it's totally worth the wait !! :) Shout out to all the people working late at night and supplying the world with great bites at night while some people have the nerve to complain :) Your the real MVPs You have cured my munchies with your Cinnamon Toast Crunch milkshakes at 3 am way too many times than I'd like to admit. Love their food especially late. Most recently tried the pork belly burger, it was okay but probably would not order again. Best items on the menu: frisco melt, onion rings, and butterfinger milkshake. So good! Ask for extra frisco sauce! Only problem is always the wait times. Stood waiting to be seated for quite a while. Was never acknowledged. The line for take out grew because people were getting frustrated at the drive through line not moving. People who already ate and were just trying to pay their bill we're waiting in the same line which must have been super frustrating. I finally self seated and the waitress busing the table next to be said nothing, made no move to take an order. Several tables were left uncleaned, only about a third of the restaurant had people seated. It was a chaotic mess. Disgruntled customers in line asked to speak to a manager. When we first arrived there was no line but the seem to only have 1 waitress scheduled to work which seemed to overwhelm here just a lil bit as she had to seat customers, take orders, clean the tables and cash out at the register. I feel because the waitress was overwhelmed certain things that shouldn't have to be asked for...we had to ask for. Example...the table had mustard but no ketchup. The table had no napkins and we had to ask for them and when we did get them it was only 3 napkin between two people. Every single time I've been to this restaurant (drive through) they tell you to pull around to the front and wait and they'll bring out your food. You then wait 25-30 minutes for your order. Sometimes there's one other car waiting, sometimes five; day, night, busy or not. I don't understand how it can take 30 minutes for one hamburger to be cooked at a hamburger restaurant. I almost missed out by reading the reviews but what I understand is that everyones experience is very different as well as the time of day. It was about 3 in the afternoon and I really should be on the road to the airport and based on the aforementioned wait times I didn't think it would be a good look. But we decided to anyway. We were greeted right away although we ordered take out. Two of the three orders came our pretty quickly but for some reason mine took an extra few minutes...it better be worth it im thinking. I ordered the western bbq burger and the sauce was amazing! The onion rings were ever so tasty. Like I said we ordered take out but because my order was taking a few minutes my friend sat at a table and started eating their food. No problem, I asked the manager about my food and it appeared. I said to him, we apologize for taking up a booth we were starving. Bob Williams was WONDERFUL! He said we have more. Any way... one of the servers came by to tell us that some we sat ourselves we were responsible for cleaning up after ourselves! HOLD THE GOTDAYUM PHONE!!!!! HAVE YOU EVER?!!!! Having one in m neighborhood of kendall I never was tempted to go in ; however, today that we had to bring our boys to a com very at BB&T CENTER we decided to try it out. Bring our first time we didn't know that we had to wait to be seated so we just walked in choose a booth. Then we asked a waitress and she told us that we had to wait but she brought us the menus anyway. The place is loud as there were families with young children. They have burgers and hotdogs, milkshakes, and I loved their small thin French fries. Service was ok. The girl was nice but forgot ab item that I had ordered but I let it slip. I am here at the restaurant as i am writing this comment. i came in there was no one to take my order waited for about 30 min so someone could take my order to start of, then i waited an extra 50min to get my food which was a burger and fries and one shake. They gave me my food but i had to wait another 39min just for a SHAKE! The manager looked like she just woke up. Everyone seem to be on drugs or something they are very very slow and rude when taking the order. My go to place when I am craving an Orange Freeze. I don't usually order food here, and every time I go I swear I'm going to try a different flavor shake, but I never do. But seriously - the Orange Freeze is an orange creamcicle you can drink - just fantastic. Just bring your patience and if you see the drive through line winding around the building, maybe try again another time as that will be a very long backup and wait. Try a weeknight or lunch time for short waits and better service. I hate to say this part...but I think they need to rebait their rodent traps or contact an exterminator - we were "entertained" by a rat running around the outside drive through area while we were waiting to order about 2 weeks ago and bailed both due to being grossed out and the long line/wait. I know it's Florida and pests are all around outside, but it's not what you want to see running around along the wall of the building right before you order. read more
