My kids had never been to a Steak 'n Shake before. I hadn't been to one in years. Not sure if they are all going to the model at this one, but things they certainly have changed. First, there are self service kiosks. At first I didn't like the idea, but it is pretty easy, and that allows you to remove the tip issue. So I'm giving that a plus. While my bun was still cold, as it must've been frozen and hadn't been heated long enough, I really think the Western BBQ & Bacon burger has potential. Good flavor on that one. You can pass on the chicken tenders. Expensive. Great Value frozen tender quality. Fries are as I remembered. Very thin and crisp. You either love them or you hate them but you know what you're getting going in. Now, going back to the self service, while I liked the ordering, there are other issues that maybe you wouldn't think of with this model. With everyone working behind the counter, anything beyond that area gets overlooked. The tables are not clean. The ketchup dispenser doesn't work. The paper towel dispenser in the restroom is broken, and the room itself needs a better cleaning. I say all that so that you know what to expect going in. It's self service but that extends beyond the kiosks. But I still liked the burger, even with the cold bun. And, if you shop at Sam's, you can get a $50 gift card for $37.50. That's good math. The sad part is that they can be better. They should be better. I'd love to give the place five stars. But even at three I'll probably come back. The employees just need a paradigm shift. I don't even think that they knowingly avoid the area beyond the counter. But they do, and that area is part of the overall experience. Simple fix. read more

First time coming here. The line only had four cars in it and was barely moving. I got up to the speaker and was met with, "it's gonna be another 10 minutes. We have a shift change." I eat out often and never had this happen. Sounds like piss poor planning to me. It took 4 cars 25 minutes to get their food. Bring on the robots, please. read more

This is how it ends - so sad. Worst dining experience I've ever had. 1st there were only 3 other patrons and it's busy lunch time. The fact they made the decision to do away with servers was a bad choice. I could have gone to McDonald's if I wanted to do counter service. No help at all with trying to place the order and then they got it wrong and it was cold. The manager was trying to be helpful but unsuccessful. It was just bad all the way around. Then I spilled my drink and no one bothered to try and help. I gave up and left hungry. read more

Where to start.....probably cleanliness. This place is always filthy. Literally every table tonight was dirty. Luckily we brought our own wipes to clean the table. The trash cans were overflowing. They were out of lids for the kids cups. It's just poorly managed and operated. For as new as this place is....it should not be in this condition nor have these issues. read more

I had heard the negative reviews since this location had opened. I had already decided that I just wouldn't eat here. Then word came that management had changed and it was worth a look. I decided to stop in on a Saturday to get some takeout. The General Manager took my order (along with doing a little bit of everything else as well). Our food was fresh and delicious. The restaurant was clean and the service beyond friendly. The other establishments in the area need to find a GM like her. I will be back for sure. The burgers are great- keep in mind these are smashed burgers so don't get all uppity expecting something else. Shakes are really good, especially if you use the app and get a discount. The fries seem to divide folks- they are skinny and you like em or ya don't. Last couple of years everyone has gone to ordering kiosks and this seems to upset those who struggle and generally avoid technology. This is quality fast food. Admittedly I showed up at 10:02, right after they opened. That being said, you would think for a food service location they'd have staff show up a bit early to prepare for customers to arrive at opening time. I looped around the building once or twice trying to see if there were people inside and there were. I pulled into the drive thru and sat. And waited. I waited three minutes then pulled around to just go inside. I parked, walked up and both doors were still locked. Another set of customers parked and tried the doors and I let them know I was having trouble being served as well. Finally at 10:10 someone unlocked the doors. Since I was still in my car, I drove back around to the drive thru. I sat. I waited some more. At 10:15 after 13 minutes of waiting and confusion, I finally hear a voice come through the speaker. Could I have left and gone somewhere else? Sure. But this location is one of the last stops on my way home where I could pick something up, and I didn't know it'd be a fifteen minute wait to speak to another human to place my order. Once I placed my order, I pulled around to the window. I have now been sitting here typing this review for an additional seven minutes. TLDR; I arrived when they opened, they weren't prepared for customers, I waited 20 minutes in a drive through unexpectedly when I was the only other customer. Big time bummer. read more

The steak and shake in Nicholasville KY COMPLETLY messed up our $49.16 online order. All sandwiches were made completly wrong, and the shake we ordered was the wrong flavor. We waited longer than when it was expected to be ready and it for all of that it was absolutely not worth $49.16!! To top it off, I ordered 2 bottled waters in place of sodas for 2 of the combos and we received 2 fountain waters. We didn't make a fuss because at that point we were just ready to leave. We had been warned about this place but gave them the benefit of the doubt since they were newly opened when they received the bad reviews. Not happy to have wasted money here!! read more

Nothing like any other Steak N Shake I've been to. Usually get to sit down and get a menu, but this one just had a kiosk with very little dining space. We had a party of 5, and had to move tables together because there isn't a single table in there for more than four people. We came just before closing and my heart went out to the employees. Everyone of them looked tired. With it being a new restaurant, I figured they would have tons of business. Evidently they had. They were slammed earlier. If you haven't worked in the restaurant business, you would not understand. Cut the workers a break. They are short staffed just like all the places.
