To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting this report to document serious concerns regarding the management and operations of Store #0167, Festus Steak 'n Shake. I served as a manager at this location for approximately five months, giving me firsthand experience with daily operations, leadership decisions, and the expectations placed on management. The concerns I am reporting are specifically related to the actions and leadership of the General Manager, not the store itself or the hourly employees. During my time as a manager, I witnessed what I believe to be repeated violations of Steak 'n Shake policies and Golden Standards, including the deletion or alteration of overtime hours, inaccurate weekly inventory counts submitted every Wednesday, and a continued failure to properly clean and maintain equipment. I also believe the General Manager has misrepresented situations to Corporate in a way that places blame on other managers while avoiding accountability for her own actions and decisions. From my experience, issues have been presented in a way that makes other members of management appear responsible instead of addressing the General Manager's role in those situations. I have concerns regarding timekeeping practices as well. Based on my observations, the General Manager has remained clocked in while not physically present at the restaurant and has received paid time for hours when she was not actively working. There have been instances where she was away from the store while still clocked into the system, including times when she was at home. I also have concerns regarding the General Manager's ability to properly train, oversee, and maintain store standards. During my time as a manager, I observed that she did not know how to properly clean essential equipment, including the fryers and the ice cream machine, despite being responsible for ensuring that these tasks were completed correctly and that the store met Steak 'n Shake's Golden Standards. Additionally, I have concerns regarding the General Manager's conduct while on duty. Based on my firsthand observations, she regularly left during shifts to smoke what I believed to be marijuana, sometimes occurring every couple of hours and, at times, as frequently as every hour. The first time I met the General Manager, she was sitting in her vehicle with the driver's door open, holding what appeared to be a marijuana joint. This was my first impression of the person responsible for leading the restaurant and upholding Steak 'n Shake's Golden Standards. These concerns reflect what I believe is an ongoing pattern of poor leadership, lack of accountability, and failure to uphold the expectations of a General Manager. I respectfully request that Steak 'n Shake Corporate conduct a thorough investigation, including a review of payroll records, time records, inventory reports, maintenance practices, and interviews with current and former team members. This report is only the beginning of the information I intend to provide. I will submit additional details, dates, and supporting information as I continue organizing everything I personally witnessed during my time as a manager. I went thru the drive thru at 2:37 and they told me to pull up and wait for my order. 15 minutes had passed so I called the store to complain that I'm sitting outside waiting. 20 minutes later they finally came out with my order but forgot my drinks so I had to wait even longer. Each restaurant is run differently and while some aren't too high on the rating chain, this location most definitely is. have had several meals at this location, and each time has been a pleasant experience to say the least. from the quality of service to the quality of satisfaction at the end of your meal, this Steak n Shake delivers with flying colors. while they have several different selections to choose from on the menu, the original double steak burger will always get my vote. serve that with a side of hot fries with some doubly good melted cheese topping them... the good experience doesn't stop with the food, it continues with the service received from the serving staff. everyone I deal with here has a good attitude, and welcome and serve you with a smile as it should be at all restaurants. they make routine check backs after delivering your food to ensure your dining experience is a good one. it's the several different points mentioned in this review that keep me coming back for return visits to this location. it's one of the better operated locations in this chain, and consistency with quality will always keep me coming back for more regardless of what the business is. read more

If they mess up, now a very rare occurrence, they fix it with a smile and an apology. It's never clean inside ever and if you order a burger do not expect it to look like anything like it does in their pictures. Here's a picture of how my Bacon N Cheese Double looked compared to their picture. It was plain "no sauce no vegetables" and smashed. It's about 1/4 of the size the picture shows. The fries were soggy and not even cooked in the middle. I've given this location multiple chances and they progressively get worse and worse each time. After we were seated we waited for ages for them to take our order. We ordered 3 things in total. Now to add to this all too great experience, we were blatantly ignored by our waitress once we were trying to get a check to escape this living purgatory of time. I literally had to jump directly in front of the lady, after she had walked past for the umpteenth time, to get her to acknowledge our existence. And you guessed it, it was another 20 minutes before we could pay and escape. Now don't don't get me wrong, the food was good, but that horrendous customer service is completely unacceptable. My son and I ate at Steak n shake in Festus last night 11-21-2019, one of our usual spots to eat. We finished our meals and shakes and had no waitress she since cashed out and left so went up front to ask for 2 cherry cokes to go, guy was gone for a bit to get our drinks he returned and my son and I left. Shortly afterwards we went shopping and I got a very bad belly ache, then my son did moments later. We both got the shits very bad. I gave the cherry coke to my little girl when I got home not relating it at all to the soda at this time, then she woke me up with extreme belly ache and had the shits all night with very bad belly pains! Not one of our other kids or my husband was sick, ONLY the 3 of us that had cherry cokes from Festus Steak n Shake. I think our drinks got something put in them. I think either drugs or laxatives or something. I called the store and didn't even get to talk to the main manager as he was busy but talked to a duty manager or something and all he said was I'm sorry, sorry don't fix anything!! Well that is bs cause like I told him I think something was put in our drinks, drugs, laxative or something. They should want to get to the bottom of it. I still have the rest of the soda in my frig as we didn't even finish it cause we all got the bad belly aches. Wish there was a way to check to see what was put in it. Background: I worked here for a time. I was a manager. Not even going to avoid that. My boyfriend came through drive thru last night & was treated very unprofessionally by your overnight cook. He was well known by staff during my time there bc he would visit at the end of my shifts. Your employee greeted my boyfriend by saying "don't you have anywhere better to be?" He had previously visited Taco Bell, but their systems were down, causing him to leave, which he relayed to your associate. Your staff's response was "I tell that to people when I don't want to serve them". I want nothing from this company anymore. There are reasons I left. However, treating people like that, being so bold and unprofessional to make statements like this, is UNACCEPTABLE. I don't care if I upset him in the past, we are customers.
