We had a bit of a wait to be seated and when we were approached, the man seating us did not make eye contact was dirty and unkept. This set an immediate unpleasant tone to our visit. Of all the restaurants in the area to go to lunch, my son routinely asks to come here. And it's not a surprise really. Their comfort style chili and burgers are always a treat. I love to see how this restaurant offers up great breakfast, lunch, and dinner treats for a reasonable price. Beyond the restaurant itself, there are a ton of behind the scenes things this restaurant does for the community. They are avid supporters of the local high school and community with frequent donations to events and charitable causes. The owners are from the area and have roots here that expand well beyond the walls of this restaurant. From a restaurant operations perspective, this restaurant has been able to maintain a consistent performance and experience that far exceeds what I've experienced with any other Steak 'n Shake. The service and food is absolutely horrific. Both day shift and evening shift. When you walk through the door and wait to get sat, it's awkward. It's like no one wants to take initiative to acknowledge the guests standing at the door. The managers just stand around and talk loudly about their personal lives and then fraternize with the employees, isn't that frowned upon? I could barely eat my garlic burger while listening to this pregnant manger talk about her "sex life" to I'm assuming another manager. I don't want to hear about that crap, especially while my FAMILY and I are eating! What is it going to take for this place to get back to the way it was back in 2015? When the service was speedy, and wonderful, and the management and staff actually cared about the guests and guest satisfaction. The ambiance is appalling, highlighting the remark I stated before, I shouldn't get stared down with disgusted and annoyed looks, because guests want to come in and eat. My friend and I went there at least 3 times in past month and each theme is worse than before. We work in the area and this is a quick place for lunch but Heaven help them they cannot get an order correct. Each time you order you must say it at least 4 to 5 times to make sure they understand. Then when you get to window most times the order is not right ,the drinks are not marked and the ast time we went they smashed all our food into a tiny little bag. This location is open for dining which was a relief since I was on the way back home from vacation. I was seated right away and my drinks were ordered quickly. However, my cup had lipstick on it and my server was unorganized with coming back and taking my order. As an Angeleno my heart belongs with In n Out, but this place really makes a righteous burger in its own right. Simple ingredients, well prepared is the secret to their success. It really is a terrific burger. Add in the crispy thin fries and a shake and I'm in heaven. I never miss this place and frequent several times each visit to my old stomping grounds in High School. Its such a treat. Be forewarned. The place is so popular that there are waits during peak dining periods so if you are in a hurry this isn't the place to be. If you can wait, the burger is worth the reward for your time spent in line. I'm really surprised by the negative comments about service. As far as a burger joint is concerned this place's burgers drinks and shakes rock, I see a few bad reviews on here about the service but the day we went nothing bad happened everyone was quite nice the place was clean and moving, my burger came out looking nice and our wait time was on point as well. My only problem was that my burger disappeared too fast because it was so delicious! I'm not expecting a great deal from a little place like this but nothing was out of the ordinary or the reasonable and thus the food and service combined are a solid 4 each. As Steak 'n Shakes go, this one seriously trails the rest of the chain in service. Slow to be seated followed by indecision and illogical placement. While the serving staff is friendly, 60% are inexperienced and are still being helped/bossed around by their manager. This lack of autonomy among the servers is likely not their fault but the very fact that this reeks to the point of unsubtlelty makes for an awkward dining experience. Most of the time it's even hard to tell if the server or the manager is going to get the tip. One redeeming factor is that there is nothing exceptional about the taste of the food; not on the good or bad end of the spectrum. That being said, you get the baseline quality you'd expect from Steak 'n Shake foods, which is more than can be said about the aforementioned half of the dining experience here. If you like their shakes and burgers and don't care one way or another what hoops and time intervals you will go through to obtain this food, then you're in the right place. I end up here because there are certain foods I wish to eat and prices I wish to pay, regardless of the negatives. I have not lost faith in this place as it serves its mentioned purpose, but I do wish to see more independence and skill in the servers and less invasiveness from management. There are always little things that happen or go wrong when we visit this steak and shake but today was so bad from the time we walked in we ended up leaving. We walk in and there is a big crowd, it is right at lunch time, the people in front of us are seated leaving only my family of 4. The hostess puts our name on a list and tells us it will be a few minutes. My boys and I go use the restroom leaving my husband to wait. The restrooms are filthy and just about make me lose my appetite. I come back out and my husband is still sitting there waiting and a few more people have come in. I walk up just in time to hear the hostess tell two gentlemen that were getting ready to sit at the bar that a table was going to be ready in just a second. She proceeds to seat them at a booth for 4! She comes back and yells to the crowd, who's next? My husband and I jump in and say we have been waiting and told her that she seated them instead of us, she says well that's ok, there is another table being cleaned now. She takes us to a table for 3!!! I was so mad I said we are leaving. I go to the manager and tell him what happened and he just said OK. No sorry or anything, just OK.
