Right up front we are elderly. When our grandsons were young we used to bring them here often. Prices were reasonable, food good for the price, and great service. Today we took two of our teenage grandsons to lunch. First we were met by kiosks to place our order. We tried to ask a couple questions of the staff but we were ignored. We finally worked through the ordering process and took a seat. We had arrived at 10:45 am. Only one customer was seated when we took our seats. Drinks and condiments are also self service. At this point we had no human interaction whatsoever. It just so happens the table my wife picked gave me a Birdseye view of the kitchen and food pick up area. Everyone in back I could see was very busy and stayed that way. I noticed the majority of orders were being bagged either for drive thru or pick up from online orders. It was becoming clear to me, that IF you walk thru the door to order and dine in, you go to the back of the line. We waited and waited for our order. People dining in that came after us started getting their food. Keep in mind there's no PERSON readily available to talk to. Finally, after waiting about 25 minutes I went up and stood at the pick up area. A young lady peeked out and I pointed to my receipt. She said "I know, give me some time". I thought, I've already given you time. About 5 minutes later our food came out and most of it was room temperature if that. I feel pretty confident that was my last visit to Steak and Shake. There's a Chili's a couple hundred feet from them in the same parking lot. No I don't work at Chili's nor have relatives that do. I just think between the two restaurants Chili's has it all over Steak and Shake hands down. And Chili's Three for Me comes in around the same price as our meals at Steak and Shake. * Final note: At Steak and Shake you order your own food, get your own drink and condiments, and pick you order up at the counter. I had to laugh when I checked out I was asked if I would like to leave a tip! I thought, heck, you should pay me for doing everything except cooking. Sad, it used to be good. read more

By far the best Steak 'n Shake we have ever been in. The restaurant is clean and well lit. The staff is friendly and struck up a conversation with us while we were ordering and welcomed us to the area (we just moved here). When out food initially came out I was explaining to my husband how hard it was going to be to eat with all the bbq sauce on it. The manager heard me and remade my burger for me and brought it to my table with an apology. He was more than accommodating and very personable! The food was good and fresh. Went there Sat. Feb. 22, 2025. No service... all kiosk ordering, only one that took cash. Nobody asks if they can help you figure out how to use them. You have to scan a QR code just to get your own drink. Again nobody tells you this. The writing is in very small print given on the papers rolled out by a machine, No refills either. A lot of Steak N Shakes are closing down. We were excited to go to one before our flight. Everything is self-serve. You must input your order into a kiosk, pick up your food when they call your name, and fill your sodas. The kiosk isn't up to date. No way to edit your order to add or remove stuff you don't want. My husband was able to ask for ketchup with his fries but the kiosk doesn't separate it on the receipt. His grilled cheese that wasn't melted came out with ketchup on it. The cook wanted to argue but decided to just make a new one. My husband ordered large fries. In the end, he ended up with fewer fries than what comes on a child's order. While sitting eating the lady that greets everyone was arguing with someone that wanted to pay cash. read more

Wow. Undoubtedly the worst steak and shake I've visited. Ordered two things: a double burger with no cheese and extra onions. It came with no onions and a lot of cheese. My 5 way chili had no chili! Just really greasy beef, cheese, onions and noodles. After waiting 25 minutes to get this we weren't about to try for a redo. There's about a tablespoon of grease left in this bowl where no one strainer the meat. Bags of garbage sitting around in the restaurant where no one took them out- just changed the van and left them. The Steak n Shake in Clarksville has some major issues, starting with seating guests. You can actually stand at the door for awhile before someone greets you. I do not know how it is possible to serve good food, but they do. I know you are thinking it's Steak n Shake what do you expect? Perhaps a clean table or a floor that's not dirty? Do not go into the rest room, you've been forewarned. I know these kids work hard and it's busy, but that's not a guests problem. When you open the door to provide service that's what is expected. I could care less if you are short staffed or the kitchen is running behind. This has been an ongoing problem for quite some time. I think personally it's the management. One of the best things about Steak 'n Shake is you always know what you're getting. One of the worst is how dirty they almost always are, and unfortunately, this location is no exception. The waitresses here are usually on point and the food is always hot and fresh, delivered quickly. The restaurant is covered in a greasy film, likely due to the open kitchen, which makes it a not so pleasant place to dine. The shakes here are great and I love that I can lunch with my kids here for under $20 and we all leave full! Tell me that you close early due to staffing but you going to let people sit in the drive thru when you are clearly there and not tell them that. Now to be honest Steak 'n Shake in general and this location have had numerous issues for years but recently the Louisville metropolitan area has lost several locations. The burgers are greasy but it's what makes them delicious. Every bite is like getting the flavor from a sirloin. The thin crisp patties provide more beef taste than just about any burger you can buy. Also don't forget the $4 meals. Anything like that from other burger places just can't compare. Today was my birthday and they sent me a free double and fries. Even though they were busy I got through the drive through in less than 5 minutes. It was fast and friendly but I would have like more than 3 ketchup. Few things, I will start with positives. Great happy hour specials on soft drinks and shakes. I also most of time the burgers are hot and fresh. So, we were in the mood for Steak 'n Shake. It took forever for us to be seated. The restaurant was busy but there was a sea of empty but dirty tables just begging for someone to bus them.
