Updated Review: I…read moremade my return visit this evening about 6:00 pm to take the owner up on the offer of a meal on the house and to give them another opportunity. I passed on re-trying the shrimp and grits as they were described as still being just grilled shrimp atop a serving of grits. Shrimp and grits are an absolute favorite of mine and everywhere I go has the shrimp in a sauce with seasoning, peppers, onions, garlic, bacon, etc. and I really wanted to enjoy my food this evening. I ordered the ribs with macaroni and cheese and collard greens. The very nice lady taking my order, I believe is Shirley, was kind enough to include sweet tea and a piece of chocolate cake. Ok so now for my opinion...the ribs were decent once I heated them up. The ribs seemed to be very chilled and not from the 5 minute drive home when my sides remained steaming hot. I enjoyed the ribs which had a pleasant seasoning although they weren't smoked at all, I assume just oven baked. The greens seemed to be canned but the chef did a good job of enhancing them to remove much of the canned taste. The macaroni and cheese was well seasoned and it was made "in house", however it was very difficult to find whole noodles within my serving. The macaroni was very broken up and left me feeling like I was eating just clumps of cheese. The honey lemon ginger iced tea was outstanding! The chocolate cake was not homemade and was just ok. I had to think long and hard about this review because I continue to want to see this business succeed in the neighborhood. I strongly believe that when I go out to eat, the food purchased should be something exceptional. There are many positive things about the service and care apparent when you enter the establishment, but the food is hit or miss for me at this time.

Really good. Based on previous reviews we confirmed that the string beans and yams were canned. We got them anyway. Not bad. Just not anything special. Chef Darryl did a great job. If you are expecting Micheline stars from a neighborhood mom and pop joint at this price point you will have to share with everyone when you find it. Will definitely keep this place in our rotation. Local. Tasty. Cheap. Friendly. What more can you ask for?

I very rarely write reviews but in this case I had to make an exception…read more I thought I ordered a gift card for $100 for Selbys (which is in San Francisco) and was directed to Selbys grab and go, not realizing I had made a mistake. I called them right away to let them know I had made a mistake and requested a refund. I'm in Ohio and the person I was giving the gift card to is in California! There is no way that I would be able to use the card. They said they would not refund my money but would have the owner call me to discuss. I never received a call. Stay away from this restaurant if this is the kind of low business practices they have. This says a lot about this business doesn't it?? I am disputing the charge. It would be different if I had waited a long time to ask for a refund but I literally called them the same day. This isn't right.

Cydney was our waitress. She was superb. We had a party of twelve. She was there for us while also waiting on other tables. She anticipated our needs. There was a woman (maybe a manager or owner) who walked around to every table asking if things were okay. My husband ordered the pasta with marinara (not realizing it came with cheese- he had to send it back, he does not do dairy or meat). They should note that cheese is on it on the menu. I ordered three chicken wings (they were oversized - not my preference), potato salad, black eyed peas and one piece of cornbread. The chicken lacked flavor. It was just big and kind of greasy. The sides were fine. Ordered a piece of sweet potato pie to go and that was fine. The jazz contained a lot of talking. It was nice when they started playing line dancing music and there was a small area to dance. The dancing wasn't offensive or in the way...it was just right. Then came more talking. And advertising of a cruise, etc. It was okay, but I wish they played more music than talking. The same night, the restaurant attempted to charge me for a missed reservation fee ($5 per person). Luckily, I keep my AMEX locked. Weird, I gave my name to the hostess upon check-in. Wonder if that's happened to others. All-in-all, it was an okay experience. Not opposed to trying the restaurant again, but not necessarily rushing to get there.

To me it's the standard restaurant setup. You order at the counter for dine in or takeout. I ordered one pound of spare ribs, dark meat smoke chicken, sweet potato and Mac-n-cheese. All the food was good but I can tell the meat was cooked the previous day. To my surprise I didn't need barbecue sauce, the meat was perfectly seasoned and had good smoke flavor. Overall I enjoyed my meal and the prices are very good. I totally recommend this place if you're looking for barbecue in the area.

The sweet potato soufflé had marshmallows on top and it was waaaaay too sweet. I couldn't even eat half of it. Some of the fish tasted good and other pieces were just meh and didn't seem quite done enough for me. The customer service was suspect. I was with a group of 6, and one person didn't get his meal until 20 minutes after everyone else. They also got a couple of orders wrong and just seemed disorganized. Some items were winners, but I think they can do better.

When we got our food and opened everything it was not what we were expecting. I had ordered a kids burger because I was hungry but not that hungry and when I got it, it was burnt and way over cooked. I also ordered the Bacon and cheese Cajun fries which the cheese you could peel off and wasn't even melted, they were so dry and just bad. The rest of my family ordered fried chicken, greens, ribs, Mac and cheese, and potatoes. To start off with my family's order their greens were really sweet and had little to no flavor. and the Mac and cheese noodles were over cooked and had NO seasoning. My mother's mashed potatoes were supposed to come with gravy but there was none. The chicken was not very well but not crispy and unseasoned. Everything just seemed sweet to us and was very disappointing. The food was not priced well and to be honest my family wasted their money. To finish this off we also ordered two little cakes which were 9$ dollars each. We ordered a red velvet cake which was over moist and stuck to your mouth. It didn't taste homemade and was definitely was not red velvet. It sorta just seemed like vanilla cake mix with red food coloring. The cheesecake was not that bad but we've had better. The only good things were the cornbread (was probably jiffy) and the plain fries. Would not recommend and never come again Don't have pics my bad
