    Potato salad
    Maria M.

Got the NC Pulled Pork sandwich platter with greens, potato salad and an extra side of mac and cheese. The sandwich was plentiful but lacked flavor and was a bit dry. The greens and the half and half were the best part of everything. I hear a lot about the brisket and will try that if I return. I gave this 4 stars due to the customer service.

    Raw Chicken

They gave me RAW CHICKEN then lied saying it was from the red wood they use!! If it was wood then that would be claiming wood is getting on and into the food. I went for my free meal since I had received Ribs instead of chicken the last time. The chicken i received was undercooked, very pink even in the new one they gave me in return for the raw one. In which that one was undercooked as well. also the one who told me i was the red wood was the Owner and possible Manager himself. Disgusting, the chicken has good flavor, ONCE FULLY COOKED. What is wrong with businesses nowadays? I don't think I'm ever coming back here after I was fed raw chicken and expected to eat it. I was very unhappy with the service. Luckily I didn't get sick becuase I always check my food especially meats. I don't just eat right away. So please if you eat here check all parts of your chicken. No it wasn't fried. This was BBQ chicken which I purposely ordered the sauce on the side to make sure it would be cooked.

I stopped here last weekend on a humble. I forgot about this spot because I don't really be in Waldorf anymore like I use to. I ordered the rib and chicken platter. I'm never disappointed. The ribs and chicken are bomb. The garlic cabbage is good and the macaroni and cheese was okay I wasn't disappointed. The potato salad is not good at all no season whatsoever just big potatoes and a bunch of sweetness. I will definitely leave the potato salad off next time. If you order the rib and chicken combo it will be enough meat to eat for 2 days. I ate the chicken the next day and made my own sides to go with it. I ordered extra sauce so when I reheated the chicken the next day by adding that sauce and threw it in the oven. It was the bomb.com. The bbq sauce is what makes the ribs and chicken taste good also along with the cooking.

Ya'll know what this is another 4.5 star review. My cousin previously visited this spot and based on his tastebuds alone me & Bae took a chance. Worth it! I'd say it is a hidden gem. On the day we arrived, the restaurant was not crowded. The steady flow of take out orders made us question our wanting to dine-in. However, there are tables and chairs. As the afternoon progressed a few more folks started dining in as well. So, you place your order at the counter then either take out or take a seat. What we didn't expect was our food being served in take out containers with the lids. Sounds strange but this makes perfect sense. Less dishes and you can pack up your own food. Perfect system for portion control as well. Bae got the NC pork bbq sandwich w/slaw, potato salad and mac & cheese. I ordered the ribs & chicken platter w/sauce on the side, slaw and collard greens. To be clear, we are Eastern NC born and raised. The bbq wasn't bad. One of the better attempts I've tasted. Yes. I tasted his food. I was curious about the bbq. The potato salad was very good. For me a little too loose BUT this can be a tricky side dish and a touch too sweet. Again this is for me. I will eat sweet potato salad on the sweeter side it's not my personal favorite. Trust me all the flavors are there. Mac and cheese was tasty. Great cheese pull. Ribs -- oh boy! Tender but not too tender. Great flavor without the sauce. I prefer to find out if the meat is actually good or if the sauce is carrying it. Look! Run don't walk to get these ribs. This chicken was also delicious with crispy skin! As for the sides, the collards were nicely seasoned and not full of stems. Maybe a tiny tap more of salt. The cole slaw is creamy with a decent crunch. It has visible shreds of carrot. I'm use to you see flecks of carrots or mine at all. Carrots bring in the sweetness. The slaw compliments the bbq sandwich which needs that texture to offset the soft meat and soft bun. This version is tasty as a side but for me it's a toppings slaw like for burgers, hot dogs, bbq sandwiches. I wouldn't order again as a side. Nothing is wrong with it. I'd rather try something else. Bread in a bag? It's bread in a bag. Remember I said that our food was packed to go. For me, I would ask the customer if bread was wanted with the meal. That may save on waste & cost. I ate my meat cave man style right off the bone especially since it wasn't sauced. And yes, the sauce was very good. My bbq fans are looking for hushpuppies. Womp! Womp! They were out of hushpuppies that day. Gives us a reason to go back and try more stuff. And shout out to Yelp! I received a $5 off coupon after I checked in. It pays off to check in folks!

    Greens and cabbage-both horrible!!

The Smoked Chicknwas great. Ribs were just ok, not their best. The sides have declined tremendously. The cabbage was gritty like sprinkled garlic powder was added after the fact. The collard greens were juicy with a strong taste of vinegar. The mac and cheese was bland. So disappointing.

    Booze.

(I've been coming here for YEARS. Not sure how I only have ONE measley pic saved. *le sigh* Will update with more pics after my next visit.) With that said, here's a pre-COVID pic of the Blackberry Cobbler. I can't remember what's in it, but I do know it's a creeper. Woo, Chile. Lefty's has always been consistent with their service, food, and prices. It's just good BBQ and soul food. I actually miss dining in. My usual: catfish (fried) and/or whiting (fire grilled) + macaroni and cheese + sweet potato souffle + fried garlic cabbage + collard greens + banana pudding NOTE: Since reopening during COVID, Lefty's is open for call-in/walk-in carryout only. This is a pretty popular spot in southern Maryland -- ESPECIALLY ON SUNDAYS -- so pack your patience during your visit/phone call. __ IG: @f.hux I #yelp and I know things. Baby back ribs
    Nille P.

This place came highly recommended, so we decided to give it a try last week. Unfortunately, we got there at 5:30pm and it was too close to closing and it was going to be over an hour wait. We tried to place an online order on Friday because it said I could until 5:30pm. However at 5:02pm, I was unable to place an order for pickup. Yesterday we decided to try one final time and purposely ordered early. We wanted to try a variety of things, so I ordered: Fried whiting with green beans and cabbage 2 pc white with sweet potatoes and collards Baby back ribs Cornbread Total $63.xx First, the containers were pretty heavy, which let me know that they give you plenty of food. The fish was okay, not as much seasoning as I expected and more breading, but it wouldn't stop me from ordering again. The taste of the cabbage wasn't really good and it had more onion than cabbage. Green beans tasted canned and bland. They gave us dark meat instead of white and neither of us care for dark meat. My FIL thought it was excellent though. My husband really liked the sweet potatoes, but did not like the taste or texture of the collards. Also, the juice leaked out and caused a mess in the car, through the house and all over the counter. Baby back ribs. Really good and tender. There was a bone in the container with no meat on it though towards the bottom. My husband liked the cornbread, I didn't because I like mine sweeter. It was light and fluffy though. My friend ordered spare ribs, 2 pc white, and dark meat chicken and rib platter with potato salad and coleslaw. Her total was $37.xx. I tasted a piece of her white meat chicken and it was so dry, it was almost inedible and it was sauced. She said both sides contained sugar, which she wasn't a fan of. Overall, I don't know if I would be rushing to go back. Maybe the food would be better if we ate in, but it definitely wasn't worth the hassle that we went through just to place an order.

Starting with the pros: our server Milano was great. He gave great recs and was patient with us, he was also our bartender initially. I enjoyed my cocktail and my biscuits! The biscuits were fresh and I loved the sweet potato butter and peach jam. Cons: My entree. I ordered the tale of two fish with all catfish. I will note it took a while to get our food and I wonder if some of it had been sitting because it wasn't hot hot. But my fish was darker than one of my sisters who ordered the same thing and hard. A part of me thinks maybe the grease was old ? My grits were stiff and couldn't even be stirred (also not hot). As I was eating I noticed a hair in my fish, I let out sever know and he asked me if I'd like something else or for a new dish. I opted for a new dish and asked for it to go. That fish was cooked perfectly and the grits were edible. I also ordered a side of the crispy smashed potatoes and the potatoes were just small round potatoes with unseasoned onions and green peppers tossed in the bowl. Across our party someone's chicken (chicken & waffles) tasted old. And 2 people didn't receive their sides (eggs, potatoes) from the kitchen so they just ensured they were removed from the bill. I will say there was a lot going on that day (a pedestrian was hit in the parking lot) but I don't think that would have an impact on the kitchen staff. I'd possibly be open to trying another location but wouldn't return to this one.

For about $18 (before tax and tip), you get three selections and two sides, plus biscuits and cornbread ,which is definitely a good value for the quantity of food. I chose the fried chicken, meatloaf, and chicken & dumplings with turnip greens and mashed potatoes. The restaurant was pretty empty, and while the country store area is always charming, the dining room itself felt very cold .....literally. I will say my waitress, Tamara, was amazing. She was incredibly sweet, attentive, and made sure my drinks stayed full. Truly top-tier service. As for the food, it just wasn't good. The fried chicken was crispy but had a strange, almost watery taste. The meatloaf was dry and not appetizing. The chicken & dumplings were the only decent item, but it's hard to mess that up. The greens and mashed potatoes tasted old, and even though the biscuits and cornbread were warm, they tasted like they'd been baked earlier and reheheated. The peach sweet tea was good, though. I usually come to Cracker Barrel for breakfast because their pancakes (with the crispy edges) are good. But lately, even breakfast hasn't tasted as fresh as I remember. It could just be this location, but overall the quality feels like it's declined. The value is there for the portion size, but the freshness and flavor just aren't. I hope it's not the brand overall, because years ago Cracker Barrel tasted hot, fresh, and truly country. This visit just felt old and reheated.

I love a server who doesn't hover but always checks to see if everything is going well. She def rocked! I have been so excited to get on and share how incredible this place is since we left. My husband asked if I wanted to go back, within the week. This is *UNHEARD* of. I don't know if he has ever loved a restaurant so quickly and so MUCH. He's been craving seafood boils for a few days now, so he suggested we go this afternoon. We went around 3-4pm. The crowd was minimal, but still, there were probably 15-20 tables full. It's a nice sized restaurant , about the size of a "pub"/local dive bar. The hostess was really welcoming (no eye rolling or impatience!!). She greeted us with a smile and a kind gesture and promptly sat us in a booth. The entire restaurant was clean, whimsical and smelled like old bay and garlic. Great art and seafood accoutrements all over the walls and booths The music was 2000s R&B and couldn't have been more perfect. Our server was incredible. We were given two very easy to understand menus and a "basket" of popcorn! It tasted like movie theater popcorn , our cups which were paper cups and a paper table cloth which lent to the "crab house" vibe we love so much, "seafood sauce" (mayo based siracha sauce think, with old bay? - it's like a spiced Big Mac sauce), clarified butter, cocktail sauce, gloves, a garbage pail, crab cracker tools and plastic silverware, and wet wipes and bibs (which I used because of course I visited in a white shirt!) After no more than a 10-15 minute wait, we had our boils "Rocked and Tossed" right to the table!! Seasoning 100% covered everything!! We ordered: Freshly brewed, 1/2&1/2 sweet/unsweetened tea. (It was very reminiscent of Chick-Fil-A tea/McDonald's tea...the good kind!) Not overly iced. So delicious!! Husband: 1 combo boil with snow crab legs, sausage and extra corn, (comes with corn and potatoes), garlic seasoning and medium heat. His garlic sauce smelled to die for. Very well rounded, (I tasted it). It had sliced garlic in it and wasn't too salty at all. The medium heat wasn't too hot, but don't take my word for it, get the heat level you like. His crab legs pulled *perfectly*. The sausage was wonderfully Smokey with that crispy/crunchy edge. The corn was tender and juicy, not overly cooked and the potatoes melted like butter. Me: 1 combo boil with snow crabs and crawfish and added hard boiled eggs (also comes with corn and potatoes), "Rocking Bomb" seasoning (old bay, garlic, lemon pepper, Cajun). *I have never had crawfish THIS good in my entire life.* I genuinely cannot describe the euphoria I had with words, but I'll try. They weren't muddy/fishy. They absorbed the flavors so well, yet preserved the firm but tender texture of the meat. They were very easy to break into, just like the crab legs. Nothing got stuck or jammed. The eggs were a balanced addition, soaking up all that awesome flavor. I ate one half way through and the second at the end. Again, nothing was abnormally fishy. Seafood can, at times, taste a little too oceanic. Everything came out piping hot, but not so hot you couldn't tear right into it. Both boils were nice and buttery. We tried using the gloves but ended up tossing them. They have sinks right in the open so it is easy to get up and wash up if you get too messy. (The bathrooms are on the smaller side - with the women being two stalls, and I didn't see any others, so the extra sinks really come in handy). There was a very kind gentleman bussing tables. He was fast and thorough. He was very pleasant to us as we walked by him. Very courteous!!! If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. Literally nothing was bad. I cannot wait to go back and hope they stay in business for a millennia to come. I believe we found THE best seafood boil restaurant in all of Maryland!!

Excellent selection, fresh tasting everything. I go at least once a month since they opened,…read moreeverything has been good. Drinks are good too. Service is fast, they bring everything you need up front, then they let you eat in peace. Some people like a waiter that comes by a lot but it is unecessary, crab boils are strategic exercises, plan ahead :) Restaurant is clean and usually not too loud which is good for having conversations and having a Zen moment with your food.

I appreciated that they listed allergens such as gluten, milk, and eggs in the labels over each dish. But in terms of flavor and texture - well, remember when you visited great-grandma at the home and stayed for lunch? Yeah, it's nursing home food. Veggies and rice are overcooked into mush and there's little flavor in anything. The salad fixins are okay. My husband's cobbler had a tough pastry we couldn't cut with a knife, and he said the ice cream tasted watered down. His cornbread was tasteless, and my mom said the rolls were too yeasty. A lot of the food just tasted off. Service was good - no complaints. For reasons unfathomable to me, this place gets really busy at times, but staff did a good job keeping up with things. The ambiance reminds me of buffets I went to as a kid. There's a feeling of going back in time to 1995 - when buffets were more popular. I enjoyed the nostalgia kick. Still, you can never really go back. I only visited GC because my companions wanted to, but I wouldn't go voluntarily. Strictly for older folks who need soft foods, or people who lack tastebuds.
