To me it's the standard restaurant setup. You order at the counter for dine in or takeout. I ordered one pound of spare ribs, dark meat smoke chicken, sweet potato and Mac-n-cheese. All the food was good but I can tell the meat was cooked the previous day. To my surprise I didn't need barbecue sauce, the meat was perfectly seasoned and had good smoke flavor. Lefty's was a mixed bag for me. I had the fried fish catfish platter. For the sides I got the sweet potato soufflé and pork and beans. I also had cornbread and homemade lemonade. The lemonade was fantastic, some of the best I've ever tasted. I loved it! The cornbread and pork and beans were good too. The sweet potato soufflé had marshmallows on top and it was waaaaay too sweet. I couldn't even eat half of it. Some of the fish tasted good and other pieces were just meh and didn't seem quite done enough for me. The customer service was suspect. I was with a group of 6, and one person didn't get his meal until 20 minutes after everyone else. They also got a couple of orders wrong and just seemed disorganized. Let me say that the food is delicious but the service is horrible. I place my order over the phone at 1:52pm. I was told it would be ready at 2:22pm. When I went to pick it up.it wasn't ready. Then I watch people walk in and order and was able to get there food before mines. This was the last straw when they told me they didn't have any more dark meat. They gave me RAW CHICKEN then lied saying it was from the red wood they use!! If it was wood then that would be claiming wood is getting on and into the food. I went for my free meal since I had received Ribs instead of chicken the last time. The chicken i received was undercooked, very pink even in the new one they gave me in return for the raw one. In which that one was undercooked as well. also the one who told me i was the red wood was the Owner and possible Manager himself. Disgusting, the chicken has good flavor, ONCE FULLY COOKED. What is wrong with businesses nowadays? I don't think I'm ever coming back here after I was fed raw chicken and expected to eat it. I was very unhappy with the service. Did a DoorDash order with Lefty's and the only good thing was the delivery driver who delivered my food was super nice. The food was horrible!!!! The fried whiting, and catfish was disgusting. I stopped here last weekend on a humble. I forgot about this spot because I don't really be in Waldorf anymore like I use to. I ordered the rib and chicken platter. I'm never disappointed. The ribs and chicken are bomb. The garlic cabbage is good and the macaroni and cheese was okay I wasn't disappointed. The potato salad is not good at all no season whatsoever just big potatoes and a bunch of sweetness. I will definitely leave the potato salad off next time. If you order the rib and chicken combo it will be enough meat to eat for 2 days. I ate the chicken the next day and made my own sides to go with it. I ordered extra sauce so when I reheated the chicken the next day by adding that sauce and threw it in the oven. It was the bomb.com. Ya'll know what this is another 4.5 star review. My cousin previously visited this spot and based on his tastebuds alone me & Bae took a chance. Worth it! I'd say it is a hidden gem. On the day we arrived, the restaurant was not crowded. The steady flow of take out orders made us question our wanting to dine-in. However, there are tables and chairs. As the afternoon progressed a few more folks started dining in as well. So, you place your order at the counter then either take out or take a seat. What we didn't expect was our food being served in take out containers with the lids. Sounds strange but this makes perfect sense. Less dishes and you can pack up your own food. Perfect system for portion control as well. Bae got the NC pork bbq sandwich w/slaw, potato salad and mac & cheese. I ordered the ribs & chicken platter w/sauce on the side, slaw and collard greens. To be clear, we are Eastern NC born and raised. The bbq wasn't bad. One of the better attempts I've tasted. Yes. I tasted his food. I was curious about the bbq. The potato salad was very good. For me a little too loose BUT this can be a tricky side dish and a touch too sweet. Again this is for me. I will eat sweet potato salad on the sweeter side it's not my personal favorite. Trust me all the flavors are there. Mac and cheese was tasty. Great cheese pull. Ribs -- oh boy! Tender but not too tender. Great flavor without the sauce. I prefer to find out if the meat is actually good or if the sauce is carrying it. Look! Run don't walk to get these ribs. This chicken was also delicious with crispy skin! As for the sides, the collards were nicely seasoned and not full of stems. Maybe a tiny tap more of salt. The cole slaw is creamy with a decent crunch. It has visible shreds of carrot. I'm use to you see flecks of carrots or mine at all. Carrots bring in the sweetness. The slaw compliments the bbq sandwich which needs that texture to offset the soft meat and soft bun. This version is tasty as a side but for me it's a toppings slaw like for burgers, hot dogs, bbq sandwiches. I wouldn't order again as a side. Nothing is wrong with it. I'd rather try something else. Bread in a bag? It's bread in a bag. Remember I said that our food was packed to go. For me, I would ask the customer if bread was wanted with the meal. That may save on waste & cost. I ate my meat cave man style right off the bone especially since it wasn't sauced. And yes, the sauce was very good. My bbq fans are looking for hushpuppies. Womp! Womp! It's slipped a tad post-COVID, overall. It was a restaurant/carryout joint pre-COVID now it appears to be a CARRYOUT/restaurant (mostly carryout) type of place now. Perhaps, that is why they did not renew their liquor license. So if you dine in, you get no beer to go with your ribs. (Isn't that un-American or something? LOL. The atmosphere has changed. It's not a positive vibrant type feeling now, a place you want to be-sit. Having the right vibe is not a feeling you can quantify or describe though. I was here for lunch with a bout 12 other people. The meat dishes are 5/5 overall. The folks with fried fish (whiting and Cat fish) hit the spot-perfectly fried. The folks with the ribs pigged out and still had a leftover box togo. The folks with the pulled pork ate high on the hog. However, a few of the sides were disappointing. They stumble o the sides though, 3/5. I wouldn't order the Mac and cheese again, a gooey, greasy mess of a dish. I also would not order the fried cabbage again. I would order the fried pork skins, an appetizer. They were gratis because of our group size. Since tasting them I would spend $5+ some change to eat them again. If you want to eat-in, I suggest you call in advance to make a reservation or discuss. This place came highly recommended, so we decided to give it a try last week. Unfortunately, we got there at 5:30pm and it was too close to closing and it was going to be over an hour wait. We tried to place an online order on Friday because it said I could until 5:30pm. However at 5:02pm, I was unable to place an order for pickup. We wanted to try a variety of things, so I ordered: Fried whiting with green beans and cabbage 2 pc white with sweet potatoes and collards Baby back ribs Cornbread Total $63.xx First, the containers were pretty heavy, which let me know that they give you plenty of food. The fish was okay, not as much seasoning as I expected and more breading, but it wouldn't stop me from ordering again. The taste of the cabbage wasn't really good and it had more onion than cabbage. Green beans tasted canned and bland. They gave us dark meat instead of white and neither of us care for dark meat. My FIL thought it was excellent though. My husband really liked the sweet potatoes, but did not like the taste or texture of the collards. Also, the juice leaked out and caused a mess in the car, through the house and all over the counter. Baby back ribs. Really good and tender. There was a bone in the container with no meat on it though towards the bottom. My husband liked the cornbread, I didn't because I like mine sweeter. It was light and fluffy though. My friend ordered spare ribs, 2 pc white, and dark meat chicken and rib platter with potato salad and coleslaw. Her total was $37.xx. I tasted a piece of her white meat chicken and it was so dry, it was almost inedible and it was sauced. She said both sides contained sugar, which she wasn't a fan of. I've been a Lefty's fan for a couple of decades. I'm no longer in the immediate area but make it a point to stop by when I am, maybe once or twice a year. The food is delicious. Now let's talk service. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and ordered a single a la carte item. There was no one ahead of me when I placed an order at 2:00 pm and I thought the wait would be 15 minutes tops. Dear reader, I did not get my food until 2:53 pm. One of the bumbling employees did offer me a free drink once I inquired 35 minutes in, but it shouldn't have had to take me inquiring given I was standing in front of them the entire time. Why the delay? Because they "missed it" (I don't understand either). Based off today, I may be skipping my 2025 trip. I did notice a Horace & Dickie's in the shopping center across the street. The next time I get a hankering for Lefty's, I think I'll go there instead. Why two stars? The wait was rather long...it's not a place to visit if you need something quick. I got home and discovered they forgot my bbq sauce. Th hubby got a pulled pork sandwich and chips and his second meal was ribs, green beans and potato salad. The crab cake sandwich was delicious! We have been loyal to Leftys for almost 20 years. We recently moved and for Mothers day my only request was Lefty's BBQ. I ordered $180.00 worth of Ribs, sandwiches, and sides. We have 3 BBQ places close to us, but I JUST HAD to have Leftys. I am sad to say, we wont be back for a long time.The flavor of the food is as always amazing. The staff (manager) was absolutely horrifying. Her attitude alone was enough to keep loyal customers away. I went here because of the decent reviews. First of all, the location is quite sketchy. The smell of marijuana encompassed the front door. We ordered and it took over 25 minutes to receive the food. I ordered a chicken sandwich with sides and my wife ordered the brisket sandwich with sides. This cost us over $40. I can tell you I love BBQ. Ive gone to a ton of restaurants and this place would be up with one if the worst. First, the chicken was TOUGH. Almost as if it were reheated multiple times. Several pieces simply couldnt be chewed. The brisket was horrible and fatty. It had the texture and pull of beef jerky. It wasnt traditional cut either. Was like thin steaks. We went with a party of three other people and all said their food was not great. I personally wont go back but some may find it more appetizing. read more

Parking is in a strip mall area and shared with the Krispy Kreme right across the way. The dining room has televisions but if you sit along the wall, you'll find yourself looking up trying to see. There's an onsite bar for adult libations and the wait time is minimal when ordering. Dine in and carry out options are available and they are capable of accepting pay by phone options. Some may disagree with the price point for some of the items but considering the cuts of meat, preparation involved its actually fair. You can purchase Lefty's signature chicken and fish breading, bbq sauce and other items in store. Of note, they didn't have Tabasco, only Texas Pete (which isn't even made in TX). I had seen Lefty's as I drove by several times and was very curious to visit. I finally got the opportunity and it was a bit of a letdown. To start, there were limited options of food, so that was a bad start. As I'm ordering I also realized that there are no sales of beer (or alcohol) due to licensing issues, which further let me down.. To top it off, as I'm placing my order at the register, a lady comes from the back and starts screaming for pickup orders to be received. It was wild. I had to stop trying to order because the woman would scream so loudly that we couldn't communicate with the gentleman helping. Speaking of which, the young man helping us was very nice and polite and even apologized for that weird yelling service they have going on. The food was just OK so we ate, took none of the leftovers, and that was that. But to top it off, the street is eternally blocked by people picking their food.
