Working against the covid 19 on the frontlines as a senior resident physician left me exhausted and in need of a vacations. I decided to visit colorado with my family for a week. Things were going smooth and I was enjoying time with family when we decided to check in to " Staywise Inn" in Montrose for 2 nights. We read mostly great reviews and were excited to check in to our rooms after a long day of driving. However, I didn't feel welcomed at the front desk. The lady at the front desk (Linda, She later told us that she is the manager) was aggressive, impolite and condescending. Since we were a large group of 7 adults and 4 kids(eldest being 10 yrs old) we had 3 rooms reserved for us. (most of the hotels in the area let up to 4 kids under 18 stay for free). We went to our rooms and it was shocking to see the arm rests of the chair were torn and had underlying/cotton showing up, the screening drapes had holes and tears in it and the window screen was broken ( we were on the first floor). The other room had torn armrests of the chairs as well. We went to the front desk and asked them if it could be fixed or replaced. Linda was again aggressive and rude. She flatly refused it and said we cannot do it. We don't have budget for it and we were not aware of it but we can't do anything about it. I asked them if we can have another room and she refused that too. At this point, I told them that they could be more polite and I didnt feel welcome here at all. She was quick to suggest that we can check out. The other person who we do not know the name of, pointed towards a sign that said thag they reserve the right to refuse service( they had already checked us in). He also said that we knew about those things and another lady upstairs is complaining about the lock in her foor upstairs. He again said that we dont have budget and these things take time. I asked for the corporate's email and she rudely told me that she doesn't have it. (Strange as she said she was the manager). She then called the cops on us as if we were threatening or being aggressive to escort us off their property. She only made partial refunds at that time saying the rest will be done tomorrow. Although the cops were professionals and nice, the kids in my group and my mom were scared to see the them(with what is going on in the present times) . Anyway, we collected our stuff and left. We booked in another hotel paying more but at least the staff was friendly there and rooms were in a better shape. I am not the one to write unnecessary bad reviews but I feel as if we were racially profiled ( my brother was in the traditional arabic garb and women wear hijaab). I believe that I had earned this vacations after exhausting myself against covid-19 at work for months and deserved better than this.

The price we were charged ($150/night) may be…read morea function of proximity to Telluride and/or a lack of lodging options in Montrose, i.e. lack of competition. That said, please note the following in regards to room 14. 1) First impression of the room was that the queen bed was noticeably undersized for the available space. Note the photo showing nearly 4 feet of space from the bed to the wall with the window. A king bed could easily fit in the space providing more comfort/space for guests if that's important to hotel mgt. 2) A/C units are typically mounted to the wall below the window near the entry door which provides a short distance for air to travel to keep guests comfortable. However, the A/C unit was tucked away on the opposite side of the room in the "closet" area. Clothes hanging partially blocked airflow requiring the unit to be on more than necessary (energy efficiency?). See photo of AC unit with damage. 3) The bathroom though functional was barely big enough for me to turn around in and I'm not rotund. It was so small the second set of towels, the hair dryer and the extra roll of toilet paper were stored on the shelf above the "closet" (see photo). No place for them in the bathroom. The sink/vanity measured only 17 inches across (see photo). Never seen a sink/vanity that small in a hotel. 4) The door had no security hardware other than the handle to open it. No latch, no quarter turn deadbolt, no chain. 5) There was a dent in the drywall next to the bathroom door. 6) The room had only two pillows on the bed at check in. Typically hotels have 2 per person. We called/ texted the front desk to get more pillows - no response. When we got back from dinner, still no additional pillows. I went to the front desk, nobody around, no bell to ring. There were some doors next to the front desk so I knocked. Someone popped out immediately but seemed annoyed that I knocked - it was a private residence. At this point I didn't care about that. The fact that I had to come to the office because we got no response to our call/text was lost on him. I'm okay with $150/night if there is value with that price. This place is not worth $150. Look elsewhere for lodging if you can.

Newly refurbished rooms,…read moreclean, easy parking in front of your room, but on a main road so there's some traffic noise. The room, although clean and remodeled, was sparsely equipped - no chair to sit on, no table, no cups, glasses, or coffee - pretty much nothing but a bed, which was okay for sleeping. The granola bar, instant oatmeal cups and fruit breakfast was sort of in keeping with their minimalist approach to room decor, but was appreciated I guess.

My son said I should give five stars, but I just can't…read more To start with. Very clean, the staff was helpful, the bed was incredibly comfortable, the black out curtains actually worked and they had a nice outdoor hot tub. Also, the water pressure was relatively high. I hate it when the shower is little more than a mist, but this place gave me a real shower. These are all good things for which I was happy about. However, I don't give five stars unless it is outstanding. So the reason it wasn't five star. The toilet didn't flush. I easily fixed it by re attaching the flapper to the handle, but I shouldn't have to fix a toilet. The shower handle was coming off and I had to really adjust it hard to get the shower to work. Also, the breakfast was just average for a hotel, nothing exciting. So overall my experience was 4+, I'd certainly recommend it.

There were leftover chips under the bed (we saw this accidentally while checking for bed bugs). The chips seemed stale which told us that these parts by the corners of the beds were not regularly cleaned. Aside from the dirtiness of the room, everything else was very standard for a 2-star hotel. There was an AC unit which was helpful for a summer stay, towels and a fridge. There were lots of other add-ons, but it felt very crammed. I wouldn't recommend this place to others unless they felt there weren't other options available.

At one point, maintenance entered my room while I was away without any notice beforehand. I was also required to switch rooms for a night because of plumbing problems and then move back again the next morning, which was extremely inconvenient after long workdays. What concerned me most was staff later attempting to open my room door without knocking while I was inside the room. As a paying guest, that felt completely inappropriate and invasive. After checkout, I was told my $50 deposit would be kept because the bathroom was "dirty," towels were "stained," and food had been left in the refrigerator. Considering I spent most of my time away working and was mainly only there to sleep, I did not feel those claims justified withholding my deposit. The room itself was not damaged in any way. Overall, the experience left me feeling uncomfortable and poorly treated as a guest. Better communication, professionalism, and respect for guest privacy would go a long way here.
