Bring earplugs! The Main street traffic noise was super disturbing. I barely slept. Could also hear the neighbors slamming doors and cars parking right outside, it was almost as if amplified. Bed and pillows comfy and clean. Bathroom and towels very clean too. Staff super friendly. I prowled around to walk my pup a bit and look around and saw that many of the rooms have sliding glass doors that open to the pool area. Pretty cute. However, the pool (in February) was half full and a green slimy mess, not very appetizing to look at. I think I would pass on the "charm" next time, and go with the ol' dog friendly standard (motel 6, or akin to) with more modern construction materials that keep the noise out more efficiently. read more

I stumbled on this place by searching Yelp and I'm so glad I did! It is darling and the owners are very warm and friendly. Plus, you get greeted (behind a doggie gate) by the sweetest, most "goodest" dogs. My room was super cute, comfy, and clean, with beautiful views of the greenery and crystal clear pool. This was an interesting place. Really nice owners! The room was clean, bed comfortable. Very retro in decor with back to the 50s pink tile in the bathroom. There was even a pull out scale so you could check your weight. Just know, the scale lies!!! No coffee in the room was disappointing and to make it worse, the coffee in the lobby was awful. Breakfast consisted of muffins and donuts. All in all, if you don't expect breakfast choices or coffee it's a really nice place to stay! read more

The Country Lodge is a small, country-style hotel in Montrose. Rates are very reasonable and everything is spotlessly clean. The innkeeper, Jeff, provides breakfast conversation and the personal touch to a great experience. I took a chance on staying here with the family for 11 days over Thanksgiving and we couldn't have had a better experience! The facility is old, but that is part of the charm. Each room is different and cozy. Linens are clean, good-smelling, there is plenty of hot water, extra space heaters where needed. We stayed in Room 15, which is a suite with a nice, small kitchen, comfortable living room and a large, separate master bedroom. A simple breakfast of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, donuts, fruit, oatmeal, and lively conversation with Jeff and other guests are waiting around a big wooden table. I commented that the shower head was a bit clogged and Jeff immediately fixed the issue. Given the competitive pricing, personal attention, extra-clean rooms and linens, we'll definitely be back next year! read more

We checked in here for a vacation getaway. The owners are so gracious and welcoming. The hotel is older but in great condition and comfortable. Rooms are nicely appointed. Stepping into the bathroom is like going back in time. Pink tile and even a scale in the wall. Just adorable. They offer a 3 room cabin and rooms with kitchenettes which we will use on our next visit. They offer coffee, juice and pastries in the morning. Pool was closed but looks like it would be great in the summertime. Hot tub was awesome and very clean. No laundry facilities on site (unless you're in the 3 room cabin). read more

This is a super cool little motel. If you like commercial, cookie cutter hotels, this isn't for you. But if you like a little throwback to the Americana road trip days, this is the place. The rooms are spotless, beds comfortable. The decor reminds me of my grandma's house forty years ago - maple and oak furniture, quilted bedspreads. The bathroom is the same pink square tiles every home built in the 50s had. The staff is super friendly. We will definitely stay there again on our next trip through. (Bonus: they have a room with three queen beds, one of them in its own bedroom.) read more

Very few electrical plug and some of those don't work. WiFi is unsecured so have your own VPN. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and relatively quiet this property is (Keep in mind that this place is [I'd guess] 70 years old or more. It has thin walls like motels of its day. You can hear your neighbors, but that is the way it is and you should expect that if you stay in a place like Country Lodge). I chose it for a couple specific reasons: I wanted a kitchen; I wanted to avoid the sterility of massive blacktop parking lots; and I wanted a motel as opposed to a hotel so I could keep an eye on my car (i.e., park adjacent to the room). I can't say enough good about the place. The people are friendly. The property is clean and comfortable. The mattress in my room was brand new. The TV was new. There were ample towels and blankets. The kitchen was clean and well-equipped. (The full-sized fridge was brand new, too). I especially liked that I could open windows (or doors, even) on both the north and south side of my room to achieve a pleasant cross breeze. It is so enjoyable to feel like you have an outdoor space while you're on the road. I don't mean the harsh concrete pool deck at most hotels. I mean sitting among flowering plants, trees, and shrubs and on lush lawns. This motel is a nice respite from the everyday experience of most lodging. There were workers busy maintaining the property the whole time I was there (nine nights). The gardens and lawns are pretty and relaxing. There were chairs on the pool deck and all around the property on which one could relax and visit--if that's your thing. Clearly this motel cares about the guest experience and is invested in the business/property. It has a homey feel and each night when I returned from work it was much more like going "home" than to cold room in a chain hotel. These things kept me from giving a five: the clock on the wall said 12:00 no matter what time it was (to be clear, there was a working alarm clock in the room that kept time), an outlet in the bathroom was dead, a lamp had a burned out bulb, the shower head sprays water even when the valve is not turned to shower, the desk chair is pretty rickety. The WiFi is pretty crappy. It works but that's about all. It is slow and occasionally congested. None of these things matters to me, and I did not raise them to the attention of the proprietor. But in fairness to the Yelp readers and crowd source process, I thought it fair to make note. read more

Rooms: The rooms have no smoking signs, but our room stank like a tobacco bar. The shower head was also extremely low, probably only for people around 5'6. However the beds were very comfortable. Staff: Neither staff members wore masks at anytime during any of the interactions. read more

For the second year in a row, this place messed up our reservation. We were promised it would be fixed the next day and we were able to find a decent place just for the night. During our original attempt to check in, my young grandson attempted to get the dirt off his shoes before entering the lobby by wiping them on the curb of the sidewalk. While I was unaware he did this at the time and would have suggested perhaps wiping them in the grass, he was considerate enough to not walk in with mud on his shoes. Fast forward the next morning a 6;30 AM the man that owns the place (unreliable and rude) called to say he canceled our reservation and told me "to take my filthy animal (referring to my young grandson) elsewhere." Thankfully, we found a much better place with a nicer manager/owner that was respectful and grateful to have our business. This guy was absolutely rude, super unreliable, and should seek anger management. read more

Great place to stay in Montrose at a reasonable price. We stayed in the 'Wildlife Room" which had a cabin feel to it, was very clean, cozy and comfortable. Very nice pool and the Hotel is in a convenient location to visit vacation spots such as the Black Canyon National Park, Ouray, Box Canyon etc. Privately owned and the owners are super friendly and take pride in the property. I prefer local owners to chain hotels. We will return next year. read more

Quaint little lodge with 60's styling but well maintained. Great for motorcycle travel since you can park your bike right outside your room. The bathrooms are older but clean and everything runs well. The grounds are also clean and well kept. I'll be staying here again the next time I come through Montrose. read more

Very popular as entrance to Black Canyon of the Gunnison Natl Park, also not to be missed. Jeff, the owner, is a great host, provides a wonderful continental breakfast and great stories. Yes it is hokey but also authentic. Great rates too! If you,ski Telluride (1 hr away), you can save $300 night minimum. It would pay for your airfare. read more

What a find! Lovely, quirky decor. No two rooms are alike but all are clean and comfortable. Beautiful flowers around the courtyard pool are lovingly maintained (like the entire place) by the owners. I love this place! Cool, kitchy, hokey, CLEAN. The beds and chairs are super-comfy. The style of the rooms is mostly mid-century mod and a total throwback to simpler times, complete with salmon-pink tile and fixtures in the bathroom. The pool area is great! It's beautifully landscaped with flowers everywhere. It's a great view out the back sliding glass door of each room. Breakfast is usually coffee, tea and donuts. I think they had some fruit, too. Nothing special. My own personal story is that I asked if I could put some laundry in before dinner and they obliged. We ended up having a 2-hour meal at a local restaurant (which wasn't a good thing). I didn't want anyone to put my stuff in the dryer, because I had some stuff in there that was not cotton. The lady working the desk that night had separated out all the delicate stuff and hung those items up. She dried the rest in the dryer for me. When we got back from our awful dinner, I was in a terrible mood, expecting to be up for another hour, dealing with our laundry. I walked in and it was all done! She had even hung my delicates outside and they were dry too! I tried to give her some money for her efforts and she asked me to please give it to her hard-working cleaning staff instead. These people were top-notch! I know that Jeff doesn't read his reviews. He says that his philosophy is to just do his best. I wrote this review so that other people could come and stay here for a great experience at a really good price (which was around 75 a night). read more

This was an absolutely lovely little inn. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, and they provide a charming 60s retro vibe. The pool is well maintained and heated, as is the jacuzzi. The beds are very soft, microwave and mini fridge included in the rooms. The breakfast consists of muffins, coffee, and fruit etc. Not too elaborate, but it hit the spot. The staff is incredibly friendly (they have candy for kids if you ask). The only downside is that the WiFi can get a bit slow, but I would definitely stay here again! read more

This motel is by far one of the cleanest , quietest & hospitable places that we have ever visited. Every spot & crevice in the room was spotless; the air smelled pleasant ; the beds were very comfortable-'not annoyingly stiff; & the linen & pillows were markedly clean, comfortable and fresh. We had the feeling that we were in a room from the 1950s...a room that was incredibly preserved & cleaned daily. This place ranks up there with upper end hotels, albeit it has pleasantly dated look. Thanks to their housekeeper ,Beatrice, we felt uncharacteristically relaxed enough to take off our shoes and lay in the sheets feeling as relaxed. Honestly, we think this spot is under priced.
