Never again. Some years ago, my wife bought me a Stauer Graves '33 watch. Pretty, old-fashioned-looking, automatic timepiece with multiple dials. "Automatic" means it winds itself while it's worn. Keep this in mind; it comes back. Honestly, this is a cheap piece of jewelry; I don't expect it to keep good time or last very long. I'm more-or-less correct. The dials misbehave: They don't keep day-of-week or month or date straight; time is only accurate to ± 2 or 3 minutes a day, but it works alright. After a while, the mechanism gets dirty, the watch stops running, so I toss it. But it was an OK watch, I know how it operates, so I order another. Lather rinse repeat. February, 2026, it's time, and I order my fourth Stauer Graves '33. It arrives, and I notice the crown isn't working the way it did before. I look at the instructions (perhaps the design has changed), and they confirm: the watch is defective. I call Stauer Customer No-Service and... Clue #1: I sit on hold for nearly an hour. CSR #1 makes fun of me: I only need to fill out the return form & send it back; Stauer will automagically send a replacement. CSR #1 doesn't say I'll need to buy the shipping envelope and stand in line at USPS, but I'm already committed, so... Three weeks after the returned watch arrives at Stauer, I call Stauer Customer No-Service for another hour-long wait... Clue #2: CSR #2 says standard return/exchange processing time is a month. "A month?" He's going to do me a favor and request an "immediate" turnaround. Clue #3: Another week goes by before the replacement ships. Clue #4: The "replacement" arrives; "replacement" is in quotes because it looks & behaves exactly as the one I'd returned. I'm puzzled. There's no note; everything looks like it did when I sent it back. So... I go to the Stauer website, write a detailed message and hit "send." A message appears saying a reply will be forthcoming in several business days. Clue #5: Another three weeks go by; I've not heard anything. I call Stauer Customer No-Service for the hour-long hold, and CSR #3 tells me that Stauer's service people sent back to me the defective watch I'd returned because they couldn't find anything wrong with it. "They don't write to customers," CSR #3 says. I explain what's wrong with the crown: It's supposed to have three positions (closed, half-open and all-open), but it doesn't open all the way. The instructions say to open the crown all the way in order to set the watch. CSR #3 listens politely and tells me to return the watch again; this time, she says, I should include a detailed letter. Back to the post office, another padded shipping envelope, etc... Clue #6: I find an email address for Stauer's Director of Customer No-Service, and I send these details to her asking that she help make sure the situation is properly addressed. I receive no reply. Clue #7: A month goes by. My credit card emails to tell me Stauer has refunded 95% of my original charge. I've not heard from Stauer, so I line up for another hour-long hold, and CSR #4 tells me there was nothing wrong with the watch. Again. Understanding that CSR #4 isn't familiar with the Graves '33, I ask to speak with people in service. "They don't talk to customers." I ask to speak with CSR #4's boss; he tells me she'll call me back before close of business that day. Clue #8: A Stauer Customer No-Service Supervisor calls me nearly a week later. From the jump, she's aggressive & rude. She doesn't listen to my questions and insists there's nothing wrong with the watch I was sent. This makes no sense because she then insists that the third crown position is to "wind the watch." It's an automatic. No winding. Remember? She's acknowledging that the watch is -- by definition -- defective. Even if she's right (especially if she's right), she's admitting that Stauer has screwed up because if she's right (she's not), there'd be no way to wind the watch because the crown doesn't open to the third position. She's steadfast in her obstinance. I tell her: She's the rudest Customer No-Service person I've ever talked with. When all's said & done, the transaction cost me about 30% of the watch's price in shipping and fees, and I don't have the watch. Whether I can afford it or not isn't the point. I have the president/founder's email address, but I don't expect he'd respond in any more of a constructive way than any of his Customer No-Service people have. It's a shame because I'd've been willing to replace the watch every few years or so and maybe even buy some of Stauer's other cheap watches or knives or whatever. Now, all I'm thinking about is how to get off of their junk mail list. They send catalogs & "offers" at least several times a week. read more

Placed an order for an item- gave my CC number - then the sales rep quoted a 33% higher final amount! Said it was shipping and handling ? That is after the transaction! I told her to cancel - said she couldn't . Said I had to call customer service - they were closed at that time with the weekend coming. I used their email system and this is the third day with NO reply. I asked for confirmation number to send the unopened product back so "I " could track it as received - rep said - no need with todays tech. They'll be able to see when it arrives. I told her that is was for MY ability to make sure they get it. If a couple of weeks I don't hear from them - they can simply say " Oh we never got " ! What would be my recourse ??? read more

I purchased a ring on sale for $59 -- which turned into an $88 purchase after taxes and fees, such as / insurance / shipping / handling / handling and shipping and more handling / more shipping / buyer portion of the employee who filled the order that day / other fees we charge because naive' customers mindlessly pay them / secondary insurance / etc. My wife didn't like the ring so I returned it the next day, within Stauer's stated 30-day return guarantee. The "refund" was credited about a month later: $47. Doing the math, the transaction cost $70. In other words, I paid $70 for NOTHING: no ring . . . no product . . . nothing; Stauer made $70 in fees on the transaction -- without their actually selling ANYTHING. After being serviced by Stauer and losing $70 in the transaction, we now receive the Statuer catalogue -- more junk mail to immediately throw away. read more

Completely predatory retailer. They prey on the elderly and bombarde them with "offers" that are criminally over priced and misrepresented. They even have dedicated sales representatives that handle individual accounts so they can continue to dupe the clients and take advantage of their fading minds. They could not find purchases from before 2012, when we spent money prior to that. We ordered mostly jewelry. Since 2012 we spent over $700 dollars from their catalog. I got a flier "Everything $19.00" I called to ask what the shipping charges were: $19.95, and mandatory "insurance" $4.75. a Total of $43.70. For a $19.00 item. One ring the stone fell out (Sale price $99.00), which they would not replace because it was a few months beyond their return/exchange date. Servive, I placed a order 10-10-25 via online, received order number confirmation and e mail stating it would ship 1-3 business days, fast forward to 11-11-25, and 3 emails later saying sorry for delay, I received the WRONG RING! Stauer bought Wind and weather this acquisition has gone poorly. I have had an order they said was in stock then they gave it to a bigger volume buyer. I reordered with other products "in stock" again same thing. Only know this as have called for status. Call agents are not empowered to help, they lose connection and don't return the call. The company can improve its relationship with its customers by not carpet-bombing them with catalogs after the sale has been made. I have repeatedly requested my name and address be removed from their mailing list -- all to no avail, Stauer's excuse is they need at least 3 months to do this Well, it's been more than 3 months and the catalogs continue to arrive on an almost daily basis. What is it that Stauer's trying to prove at this point is beyond me. Never have I seen such hidebound stubbornness on the part of a reputable company. I bought a "DOWN UNDER bowie knife" from Stauer.com, the product they sent me was made in Pakistan instead of Taiwan, not made by "Down Under" company. The box of their product clearly prints "Stands Alone Chipaway Cutlery", not "Down Under" branded knife. On the product listing page from Stauer.com, the description was nearly identical to "Down Under" official website, therefore, I believe Stauer.com had every intention of selling this knife as a "Down Under" product, even though they know very well their product is counterfeit. I thought about keeping the knife when they told me I had to pay out of pocket to return the product, but the extremely low quality of the product would make it a danger to its user! By comparing this Stauer product to my authentic "Down Under" knife, the sheath leather is half the thickness of the real "Down Under" sheath, and Stauer sheath used painted FOAM spacer instead of leather, I don't think the sheath will last very long... The knife blade is made of low quality metal, which flexes easily by hand. I worry it will snap in half if I continue applying pressure. The real "Down Under" knife does not bend even when I stand on it...! The Stauer knife's blade is half the thickness of a real "Down Under" bowie knife, and it has black chemical stain all over the blade (not the pattern, but actual spot stain from poor craftship), one big black stain on the hilt. The blade doesn't hold edge once I start chopping. On Stauer's website it states this knife is made of 420 surgical stainless steel. I find it laughable. Although I cleaned the knife several times, my hand smells like rusty metal if I touched the blade. I browsed through Stauer's website, and noticed many of their products lack detailed information such as product origin, inaccurate material information(in my case). For the listing price on their website, you could buy a real nice product from a recognized brand like "Down Under". After back and forth communication with Stauer.com, I learned they will refund only the product price, but I would lose the shipping charge and return shipping charge, despite the fact they are selling a counterfeit product. I advice anyone planning on shopping at Stauer to be extremely cautious...! read more

I have purchased a few items from Stauer over the years. I had my eye on an emerald necklace for a while and finally treated my self last year. Needless to say the necklace was worth every penny it's absolutely beautiful and I get so many complements when I wear it. A few weeks ago I bought a mossanite ring for when I travel I don't have to take my real engagement ring with me. Problem was the post office never delivered my package but it was marked as delivered. We don't have people stealing packages from our house. I had a huge box from amazon delivered the same day they claimed to have dropped my package. But we are under the suspicion they keep delivering our stuff to another house with the same number in our neighborhood. So we have had several packages supposedly dropped off but we never received them. I called Stauer and they immediately shipped me another ring and I received it a week later. The person I spoke with was super attentive and treated me with so much respect. My ring is beautiful and you can't tell it's not a real diamond. This is my first mossanite ring and I think I'll buy some more mossanite jewelery with those amazing prices. I just wish they had them in real gold instead of silver. The other two are STILL on backorder (it's now the end of January 2024) with no estimated delivery date. I have sent messages only to get an automated response. The rep then upsold me on their "platinum membership" and stated how much i would save and the package would include 10 discount coupons, good for 90 days, for my use. Bad, bad business practices. I wanted to order sunglasses from them, but instead of making a simple transaction over the phone, they had me on the line for a half hour trying to upsell me. They wore me down and I purchased a platinum upgrade for $150.00, bc they told me I would get the sunglasses ad a discount. And I could discontinue the upgrade within 30 days if I liked. Fast forward 2 weeks and my sunglasses arrived! In the wrong color. So I had to send them back, wait almost the entire 30 days to get the correct ones - and only 1 pair arrived, although I'd paid for 2. So back on the phone with them to get it corrected.... Then I cancelled the $150.00 upgrade, and lo and behold - they wanted to upcharge me for the sunglasses (nothing of this was discussed in any of my phone calls; they told me that to prevent people from getting the discount, they simply include the language in their voluminous paperwork/ catalogues, etc. to CYA). I have purchased items from this company several times. If you are patient, you can get a good deal. Their regular postage/handling is about $20, but they sometimes either reduce or eliminate it, depending on the offer. They basically sell costume jewelry which is sometimes very nice, but the prices they cite as the regular price are unrealistically high. I have also ordered multiple items and then waited well over a month for the order because they do not ship what is in stock if it doesn't include everything you ordered. I was charged 3 times for the same ring. The first time I ordered the ring it went back ordered and was never delivered. Eventually it was cancelled. The second time I ordered it for my wife I was charged three times for the ring. Two of the charges were illegal/not authorized. Surpc rised that shipping was about the same as the item but I wanted it, beween shipping, insurance, taxes I paid 50, so....when it arrived I was mortified the item was a quarter of the size in the magazine had to use magnifying glass to see the gems, the necklace wasnt gold or any metal Ive ever seen. Decided to return it with their 'easy return' package which included a return mailing label. they end up charging you for using that label, along with a shipping charge all in all I spent 67 on this peice of junk. I recieved an email informing me that my refund of 18 dollars had been paid to my card. I was shocked. Over two years ago, I needed a replacement for a Seiko Titanium that I had "misplaced". Stumbling across the Stauer "Excursion Dive Watch" in an auto magazine, I thought it looked like a reasonable replacement for what I had just lost. Price was decent (a lot less than what Timex is selling watches for these days) even with the shipping cost. When I received the watch, I was impressed by its weight and feel. Both the case and bracelet were stainless steel and the movement is Japanese. Size was about the same as a comparable dive watch from and other manufacturer and the Loog was timeless. I wear this watch on a daily basis and show it no mercy. It has been in the pool, the ocean, and on my wrist when I do yard work. After two-and-a-half years, not one issue. No, its not a Rolex, but it didn't cost $10,000 either. Yet at under $100 it is a perfectly reasonable alternative to a Times, if not a Seiko for about a quarter of the price. read more

Without my knowledge, in early 2021 they set me up for auto-renewal pf a $99 fee for a supposed membership I did not know about and didn't want. I canceled. Today, 11/8/2022 I got a dunning notice from Stauer for a supposed past due amount for a $99 membership fee purportedly due 1/3/2022. I owe nothing. I tried calling the company but it was after hours. Their conduct is an unlawful business practice which is frightening. Accordingly, beware if/when ordering from Stauer. read more

I bought a wrist watch that was supposed to be a replica of a 1930's watch for $49. It was worth about $1.49 - didn't keep time, the second hand fell off in a few days, and you couldn't reset it to the correct time due to some interior malfunction. My wife bought a "Helenite" necklace for a little over $100 - a piece of plastic junk the same quality you would find in an arcade game. Complete waste of money. I have been pleased with my Stauer purchases. I wish Stauer would include item dimensions in their catalogue descriptions. One pendant I received was much smaller than expected. It seemed more suitable for an earring than a necklace pendant. My mistake. Before I ordered another pendant I called Stauer customer service who was able to tell me the pendent length and width. This pendant also proved smaller than expected so I did not order it. My experience with Stauer has been quick shipment and good value. read more
