Hmm, ok so I've had a regular barber for over 3 years. Started to go her because she's literally walking distance from my house.
Sadly, I think she's gotten used to my business and hs kinda given up on my big ass head haha! Ok that sounds a little gross, but it's true. She, and I don't mean to bad mouth her because there are days where she does a phenomenal job, but shouldn't it be like that EVERY TIME someone goes in? Regardless if you're a repeat or not?
Last time I stopped in, I was watching her do a kids hair and was like...damn! She's doing his hair all nice and slow, taking her time. Remember when we had to dissect a pig or a frog and had to be super careful and get it right? That's basically how she was doing this kids hair haha! He was like 12 too, not like a toddler who would be annoying af haha!
It was super busy there so I left and drove up State St to State St Barber.
I walked in and a woman was there and it was empty so I was like SCORE! But nah lol. She said she was booked all afternoon. So I made an appointment with Manny for the following day.
So walking in to the appointment I was all guarded and shit lol. Been so long since a guy cut my hair and guys, regardless of what anyonnne says, we are all weirded out/guarded when we first meet each other hahaha! Doesn't take long till we are fine, but yeah haha! Or is it just me?
Anyway, I was just worried regardless because it was a new barber after the same one for over 3 years. I knew he would do a great job though but it was better than just great.
He did a kick ass job. Everything was even on both side and on the back of my head. My old barber...one side of the fade would all be super high up and the other would be maybe half way down the side, if that makes sense.
Manny took his tiiimmmme!!! And I LOVED THAT! I don't have much hair to begin with. I'm 43 ffs! Of course I'm losing it haha! I'm doing things to slow that tho..stuff so many of us elderly guys do to save our hair haha!
He made sure both sides were even, gave me the EXACT fade I wanted and needed. I should probably grow it out some, but I guess I like to give the illusion that I have it to cut hahaha!
Manny was amazing. He's very entertaining too lol. I kept thinking, this guy could probably do stand up if he wanted to haha! He has a great personality, he clearly loves his job and knows how to do it. He has definitely gotten a new customer in me.
The haircut was $20 bucks and that made me SO happy! I was all worried it would be expensive because I had to make an appointment (something I've literally never done for a fade, but glad I did because he's awesome and an appointment makes sense) and because this place is kinda located close to the north end/downtown and we all know them bougie assh..nvm lol on the north end can gouge customers. Hmm, that may have been or come across as offensive. How sad I feel that way lol. My point is, I did a review on a north end business and their prices and let's just say they weren't happy haha! I got a message from the manager and then the owner and I'm just like...sorry, bro's! I calls em how's I sees em! Doesn't mean I hated my experience there, I just pointed out unnecessary high prices lol.
Anyway, I know most guys have a barber and switching to a new one is MAJOR to most guys. It's like if you leave your regular, it's almost like you're cheating or breaking up with them haha! Yeah, we can be super extra OR! maybe it's just me? Hahaha, I don't think so tho. We develop a trust with our barber and then when they start f**kin up, we stray! Hahahaha!!
Glad I did even tho that was kind of a cringe way to get to my point lol.
Thanks Manny for an awesome haircut! Thanks for being an awesome barber and person. I may have been weirded out when first going in and I KNOW that's just a me issue haha. Manny gives no reason at all for anyone to feel weird.
Does this sound like a love letter? Hahaha! Maybe it does and hopefully Manny won't scalp me next time HAHA! Jk :)
Before I finish tho, I was trying to get to this point..we all have a barber we trust, but if for some reason you need to venture out and find a new one, check out State St Barber. You definitely will not be disappointed.
Great barbers, great services, clean shop, classic barbershop vibes to it. Glad I checked Yelp when I did and found them.
THAT. ISSS. ALL!
