Chris was the 2nd barbershop that I tried when I moved to Boise. It's the one I've stayed with since 2020. I look for 2 things: a consistent, skilled barber that understands hair patterns and what looks good - and then how to achieve it and someone I enjoy talking to as I'm there for an hour once a month. Chris nails it every time. He's open to feedback and I truly enjoy our conversation. We don't agree on every topic but he brings educated perspectives and is also a great listener. I cannot express how happy I am with the service/hair cut I received from Jimbo/Jim. As an East Asian man, I am cursed with having that typical East Asian head shape: big, awkwardly shaped, and flat at the back of the head. That means that if I go into any other barber shop in town, I'll walk out looking like Squidward's house. To avoid this, I usually wait to go back home to the East Coast and let another Asian cut my hair. But I was pretty desperate for a hair cut this time around. And while Jimbo is not Asian, he is extremely experienced, meticulous and thorough. Here is how you can expected to be treated by Chris Bentley if he does not care for you or your actions do not suite him: "Out of the 3 haircuts I have provided, you were preoccupied on a work call for 2 of them. I didn't say anything during your first haircut because it was our first time meeting, but I also assumed it would be a one off situation.   When it happened a second time, I spoke up so you could see firsthand that I find it disrespectful to the individual providing a service, and it is an action that I have never invited or welcomed in my shop. Rather than asking you to change the availability you need to have in order to accommodate your work schedule, I have slept on it, and made the decision to simply ask that you find another barbershop that better accommodates your needs. Chris Bentley is BY FAR one of the best barbers here in the Treasure Valley. His experience when it comes to Men's fades is TOP NOTCH and I will not go to anyone else. It has taken awhile for me to trust anyone to do my hair, but I knew from day one when I met him that he would be a great match. His customer service is absolutely fantastic. This place is the real deal! My college aged son followed Chase here from the last place he was at downtown...and this is a way better environment, so thrilled for Chase! On this particular visit, we hadn't booked ahead and forgot about an important meeting that our son had on a Monday morning; so we reached out on Saturday late afternoon in a panic, but Chase was completely booked on Saturday and Sunday...but Jimbo agreed to stay after his last client and take our son and get home cleaned up! Jimbo was a lifesaver, as well he helped our son learn how to use some tonic and palmade to keep his hair styled throughout the day! Jimbo was amazing, really thorough consultation to see what our son wanted, and the conversation in the barber shop amongst the other barbers and clients was very cool and respectful...definitively coming back here again! Big hint though- Jimbo, Chase and Chris are all really good legit barbers...so do yourself a favor and book your appointments in advance, cuz the demand of their time is high! I had my haircut cut one time by Chris Bentley and my second booking was cancelled with no explanation. Still trying to understand why but the first time I was there, I was waiting for my haircut, and at the time I had eaten a banana and needed to discard the banana peel. As I go up to a trash can to discard the banana peel, Chris tells me that's not where they throw food, to go to the back and throw it there. I complied. I believe he is very particular, and there's nothing wrong with that, but if that's is the the reason why he cancelled my booking, I'd recommend anyone reading this to look somewhere else as he is unpredictable. read more

Keep in mind this review is only based on my interaction I had in their shop today, not a judge of the work they do. I tried contacting this shop twice in the morning, twice in the afternoon, with no answer on their telephone. I noted from both their website and Yelp that they took walk ins. I don't get my hopes up with walk ins and hold realistic expectations, so I decided to drive my two 9 year old kids from Kuna to go check out this shop today. They walked in excited seeing how "cool" this shop was decorated and they liked the "bro" vibe of it. But unfortunately I asked if they took walk ins and was told they wouldn't be able to today cause they were booked full for the rest of the day. Was kinda bummed cause typically when a shop says they take walk ins they don't usually "book up" or they tend to have one person who takes the walk in clients. Granted again I didn't have high expectations so in a bummed but honestly genuine way I let them know like, hey, I totally drove out here from Kuna and tried to call you guys multiple times just so we could try to see what to expect in advance before coming out here - just as a you know from customer point of view for the future. After I mentioned this is where I have my problem, as a store owner I would expect a simple sorry we've been swamped or hey I appreciate you taking the time to come check us out let's try to make an appointment. Instead - I was told by owner of this place "Well I could be the guy who answers phones, or I could be the guy who is cutting hair, and I decided to be the guy who cuts hair." Im sorry, but if your running a business and you can't answer 5 calls in between 10am-2pm isn't that room for improvement? Or potentially a need for a secretary if your feeling that condescending about it? I was just a mom trying to get my kids haircut and read some great reviews that lead me to after this comment feeling like I wasted an hour of my time and gas driving for a shop owner to make me feel like me and my family's time was not important. On a positive side note - Jim, I believe is his name with the chair on the end seemed like a stand up guy who tried to find me an alternative place to go today looked up on google even, and at least acknowledged me and my kids being there, so I did appreciate that aspect. I have been looking for a barber in Boise that enjoys cutting longer men's hair for a while. In my experience, many barbers can do a great clean short cut. Not so many barbers are comfortable with styling longer cuts. I decided to see Jimbo because his online bio states he likes cutting long hair. He has a waitlist about 3 weeks out. After my appointment, it is clear why this is. He is a very talented barber. When I sat down, I told him that I didn't know what I wanted to do with my hair, just that I wanted to keep it longer and make it look good. I felt bad that I hardly had any guidance to give him. Jimbo asked me about my background, took a critical look at my hair and proposed a general idea. He told me he would make it look great and it really does. Jimbo gave helpful styling tips and talked about what we might change about my hair at my next appointment. His pricing is higher than average in Boise, but honestly this is justified for such a great service. I will definitely be going back. In short: nice guy, great at his job, worth the wait and the price. read more
