Once you order, you might be waiting a little longer than you do at a typical fast food joint because everything is cooked to order. There is a veggie burger, too, if that is your desire. The menu is a bit sparse but covers most of the bases with burgers, hot dogs and a hand-breaded tenderloin. There is also barbecue pulled pork, chicken strips, and chicken sandwiches. There's also an array of grilled cheese with variations. Variations? Can you improve upon the basic grilled cheese sammich? Sure! Add bacon and tomato. Bacon? Sure! Everything is better with bacon! That's what I ordered, it was ooey-gooey as a grilled cheese should be, and the bacon and tomato just added to the experience! Deserts? Of course! Choose from sundaes or, as in my case, a milkshake or malt. I opted for a raspberry malt, which was thick and tasty, but thin enough to pull through a straw. (Unlike a certain fast-food joint where you can hold a malt upside down and it won't budge. Don't try that at Murph's!) I don't get this way very often, but next time I'm in the twin cities of Tama and Toledo, I'll be stopping back here.

I ordered 2- 3 taco platters and got 1 and had to reorder. I ordered onions and cilantro on the side and somehow got 3 tacos with onions and 3 with both onions and cilantro- my kids were NOT happy to pick out all the stuff. The beans tasted canned, but the rice was yummy. The beans were too runny and leaked all over and made a mess into the rice (see photo). Overall okay, but I'd try other places before returning here.

Usually I find that weird hidden location taco shops are some of the best, LOL. But unfortunately not the case here. I will say the tacos I had were pretty authentic, and the meat flavor was okay/good enough. The beans were watery and a very grey color... not appetizing. The rice was bland... I prefer some veggies in my Mexican rice... this was just orange rice. Overall, I wasn't impressed. There are better Mexican options in town.

Street parking right outside and we walked in and was greeted warmly. Main street almost hides this little gem. The name of the restaurant illuminated on the floor. They are super careful that all the foods don't come into contact with gluten. I have to say that if you walked in and ordered not knowing anything I mentioned above, you would never know that the entire menu is gluten free. It was a brunch for us. I was very excited with the menu options. It was selective and well described. My mom was super excited about the chocolate chip pancakes and the waitress talked up the cinnamon roll. The Slap Jack meal was three chocolate chip pancakes. How can a pancake by fluffy and plump at the same time? You get the meat of your choice on top of that. I picked the sausage and it was full of flavor. The other two at the table got The Early bird Shakedown. A very generous helping of hash browns, slow cooked brisket, cheese, white gravy, and eggs. The brisket on breakfast is divine. I stole a few bites from the hubby and it was savory and melted in my mouth. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Although it was a little quiet, people started feed in. It's a great restaurant and I hope it gets the traffic it deserves. We about rolled out of there full and happy.

If they were across the street from each other, I wouldn't be sure which of them were the better Iowa "performer". It was last Sunday that I was driving my 93 year-old Dad down and around the Lincoln Highway. As we entered Ne-VAY-duh (Iowa), I was reminded that my current home is Genoa Ne-VAD-uh. It's actually easy to remember, once you're at either place. The Lincoln Highway sign at the Nevada (Iowa) city limits also tells the story. Anyway, this is a long winded review about filling up with gasoline at a convenient local gas station as father and son explore local downtowns, with a lot of farm land in-between, and usually either a gravel or paved road every mile across endless 640 acre sections. Also in Iowa and mainly due to corn ethanol subsides, premium grade is "cheaper". Our short self-serve trip was "Good & Quick". As other reviewers have noted, there's good mini-mart selections inside, in addition to the broasted chicken option.
