On the positive side, he informed me that my roof had sustained hail damage and that I should contact my insurance company. With that knowledge, I contacted my insurance agent and reported the damages. In the end, I received an insurance claim to cover the damages. The problem I have with Sanchez Roofing is that they would not give me an estimate of the repairs until they saw the insurance claim coverage. While I certainly am not looking to profit off of the insurance claim, I do not want to pay more than I should. I reluctantly provided the full insurance claim report and wouldn't you know it; their estimate was exactly the same as the insurance claim. Here's the caveat. Since my actual loss was last year (but unbeknownst to me), my insurance company withheld what they call depreciation. This was a significant amount totally approximately 15% of the overall claim. So the check I received was 15% less than the damages. Sanchez Roofing estimate was for the full amount of the insurance claim before the depreciation. Bottom line, my new roof would have cost me $2,500 more than the insurance company was providing. But wait, there's more! Like any shrewd homeowner, I contacted multiple companies when contemplating a major home renovation. Two companies were spot on with the insurance claim amount (after the depreciation amount had been deducted). The interesting thing is that one of them was aware our roof was an insurance claim and the other was under the assumption this was an out of pocket expense. Regardless, both (highly rated) companies were cheaper than Sanchez Roofing. One of them - $2500 and the other more than $3500. I understand each company has different overhead costs and thus estimates can vary significantly. If their quote had been provided before the insurance claim report and was higher I would NOT have had a problem with them being significantly higher and might have even chosen them based upon their reviews. However, their reluctance to provide a timely (before insurance) and competitive bid places them at the bottom.

Estimate/Quote: Compared to their competition, Kusiak could do a better job in detailing the work to be done, exactly what would be covered in a nice and detailed package. While this isn't a deal breaker, it certainly does place the homeowner at ease when spending $$$ thousands on a new roof. Price: Very competitive. As I mentioned, I contacted other companies and found a disturbing $5,000 swing between lowest and highest. Kusiak was among the most competitive in their pricing. Craftsmanship: Very pleased with their attention to detail. While they just completed the job this morning, everything appears to be in order and the work appears to be very professional. In addition to their competitive pricing, one of the main reasons I chose Kusiak is their application of a 6' ice & water protection. This is twice what others quoted as most only apply 3'. Warranty: This is what set them apart in my opinion. A 10 year warranty on labor is no laughing matter. Again, almost double the time frame what other companies quoted. May 2021 - I had a 4 yr old roof with no history on who performed the work. Rather than constantly…read moreworrying about the next leak I told Ryan that I wanted an entirely new roof that was warranted. He offered me 3 options and I took the most complete option that included a transferable warranty. Ryan pointed out why the roof was leaking and other flaws in the original construction. In addition to the roof, we replaced 4 skylights, added 2 ridge vents, and one soffit repair. Plus, we added a roof drip edge all around the roof which had not been installed originally. We also replaced 4 plywood boards that had water damage. We also changed the shingle color from black to dark brown. This was a major project during windy Spring weather. I watched the workers carefully and was impressed by everything that they did. This is not easy work and I appreciated their efforts. Total Roofing has some very large equipment and this helps them be efficient. Most of the roof and skylights were done in two days. Two smaller crews did the finishing work on two other days (maybe 2 hours each). I would certainly recommend them for any sort of roofing repair or replacement!

I would want people to be careful using Layman Roofing and Siding. The main reason I say this is…read moredue to their communication and service. The whole process was difficult whether it was receiving a timely estimate, starting the job, completing the job, and warranty of the job. Don talks as if his business had great service, but his actions showed differently. His communication was lacking as they started the job almost two weeks behind schedule, had guys on and off the job when they should have been working on the roof, and did not have qualified installers. By the way, I had to constantly communicate with Don and the only time he would talk with me is if I called. After the roofing project was complete, it only took about 2 weeks and the ridge cap shingles were coming off the roof. I have installed shingles myself and with further investigation it was clear that whoever installed the shingles used a nail gun improperly. Even Don admitted to somebody using the nail gun improperly. The nails were blown right through the shingles. Don had a guy come and fix the shingles that had come off only to have more shingles come off the following week. I called Don again asking him to once again repair the shingles that had come off. I even asked him to replace the whole ridge cap as most, if not all the nails, were blown through the shingles. He said he would send a guy out, but never kept his word. After 10 days, I had another installer come out and replace the whole ridge cap. I am glad I did, because it rained heavily two days later and it would have created a huge mess. The new ridge cap shingles were nailed in by hand and there have not been any problems with the ridge cap. I also had to call Don and let him know that his crew left materials and tools behind. He made sure his guys came back to get the tools, but left miscellaneous supplies that had to be cut down and thrown away. He threw shingles in the landscaping which I had to clean up. When he had the dumpster picked up it left big ruts in the yard. He noted that he would put boarding down so this would not happen, but failed to keep his word. He also did not nail down a ground wire or reinstall the light. Both of which Don stated he would have done, but never did. I would suggest people find another roofer due to Layman Roofing and Siding not keeping his word or standing behind his workmanship.
