The service was fair. We had a group of 20 go in to the small town restaurant and there were two waiters for our large group. They were nice and patient with our large group. I had ordered the baby back ribs with a side of a loaded baked potato and a salad. Unfortunately, the salad tomatoes were weird tasting. They may have been over ripe or something. I would have rather had none than that those on there. The Ribs were descent, but I did have to ask for more sauce. I also had to go find someone, because our waitress did not come check on us frequently. Finally, the loaded baked potato was not the very good. It had this slab of random cheese and onions on the potato. There was not any butter for my potato, but the one thing that was nice, it did have real bacon on top of the potato. Also, I would recommend that the waitresses wear name tags, just to create a better and friendlier relationship. I would go there again, but I would probably not order a salad, loaded potato, or ribs. I would choose a cheaper item, like a sandwich or wrap. My colleagues were eating those and they looked good. Also, the restaurant had a nice little sports bar theme. I liked that we had a separate area that was small but homey. Also, at the bar they let you smoke inside the restaurant. That could be a good or bad thing depending on one's smoking habits. They also had some t.v.s with sports of some sort playing. That entertained some of the people. It was alright! I would just at least check it out when you stop through the small town of Williamson, West Virginia. Avoid the fast food and try the sit down restaurant. The prices were moderate for the other food items depending on what you get. They also have a large variety of food from steak and ribs to a burger. Most importantly, this sports bar/restaurant is located in the 57th poorest county in the USA; Mingo county. In spite of this, this county is currently thriving by improving their quality of life through sustainability. On another note, I really enjoyed eating at Starters Sports Restaurant because I was contributing to the economic development of this restaurants surrounding community by purchasing a meal. In light of this, if you don't know the history of Mingo County this will not hinder the positive experience you will gain by eating out at this restaurant. This restaurant has a great lunch menu including chicken clubs, Philly cheese steaks, and fresh double cheeseburgers that will set your taste buds on fire. I decided to get the Philly cheese steak and loved the taste, and how satisfied my stomach was in after consuming it. People that I know have different experiences, and compile different reviews about this place based off of how crowded it may be. So your experience may be different than mine, based on service, time of day, and the number of in houseguests. For two nights a group of twenty that I was apart of ate dinner at Starters and not only was it good the first time, but even better the second time. As a large group, when we first walked in, the waitresses looked a little surprised, but they were very hospitable and served us very well considering we filled up half the restaurant without calling ahead. My first dinner of night one was a Buffalo Chicken Salad, a hotdog with chili and onions and a mango-pina colada smoothie. For my second night, I had two chicken breasts with one of their seasonings called Dynabody which was just right for a mild flavor, Buckeye Potatoes, and Strawberry cake to top it off. They offered a variety of dishes and I am sure that if we stayed in Williamson a few more nights, I would have had no problem finding something new and delicious to eat as I did for the two nights we were there. I went to Williamson, West Virginia and I went to Starters for dinner. its name on the sign on the street was Starters Sports Restaurants so I expected much sports bar atmosphere but I did not see much atmosphere about sports at this restaurant. there were many televisions and playing TNT or ESPN showing sports. there were many frames and pictures on the wall but those were not about sports which reduced the sports atmosphere as a design. I ordered Chicken Caesar Wrap. the food was served after about 40 minutes, which was long time to wait. but the wrap was kind of good, the seasoning was not enough i think. I felt that I eat something healthy so I think this can be compliment or something else at the same same. also the price was really good. it was cheap price and reasonable. I think this place can be good for travelers who are in tight budget too. if they are not in tight budget, they can order something expensive such as steak or ribs since Starters serve those food as well too. I really enjoyed Starters because it was a sporty restaurant. When you first walk in the building it just seems ordinary it is not until you walk to the back do you see the sports bars and the decorations. If your a lady and need to use the restroom make sure you go into the cheerleaders room not the players!! A Anyways the service is fabulous! The waiters and waitresses are very thoughtful and kind. They are quick to serve you with your drinks and make sure you are content but do not interrupt or bother you to much. The food is amazing. I had the chicken ribs with barbecue. It was very tender and tasty. There are a variety of side dishes to choose, one can either go healthy or not healthy depending on what they like. The restaurant is very well kept, however, I feel like some of the food was over priced while some options were great. The menu is well organized and very easy to underderstand. read more

We stayed in the town for 2 nights, so I had a chance to try different dishes. Seafood is my thing, so I order Baked Tappila with baked potato for the first day and Grilled Shrimp with House Salad for the second day. The fish was beautifully grilled and seasoned with lemon pepper. A bit too salty though, but I was really satisfied with my choice. The second day, I picked Shrimp and a house salad. The Shrimp is good and the toast is lovely buttered and toasted. I love the mushroom in my salad. There was a variety of dessert choice. I picked strawberry cake. It was good, mildly sweet. I don't like the frosting very much, too sweet. My friend got lemon cake. It smelled lemon, but tasted too sweet. I would not recommend that lemon cake. The staff was very friendly and funny. They also have smoking zone and non-smoking zone. Great place to have dinner in a small town! read more

During our stay in Williamson, WV, my colleagues and I ate here for dinner. Walking in initially, there was little sports theme as was expected by the advertising, however, the farther you walked into the establishment, the more sportsy it became. The room that our group ate in had a very homey atmosphere, especially since a basketball game was playing on the T.V. We had two waiters serving twenty people and they did great, although in the beginning they were a little scatterbrained in getting the right drinks to the right people. I ordered the grilled steak wrap and salad and they were both very good, although the wrap was a little small, but still very good. The Food as starters was pretty good. Their servings are good sizes. When they hand you your food it doesn't look like a lot but it's really filing, and tasty. I had the chicken club which is grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato, cheese and their homemade ranch (which is amazing) on texas toast. The chicken club was good, everything was even in flavor, nothing was overpowering. The chicken breast was nice and juicy but not greasy and the lettuce and tomato tasted fresh. I also had seasoned waffle fries that had a crisp outside, although they didn't taste very seasoned but other than that the fries complimented the sandwich. Starters is a decent restaurant. I ate dinner there twice, and I would recommend their steak wrap over the chicken fettuccini pasta. Their sweet potato fries were also very good (not on the menu - you have to ask). The price seemed a bit expensive for the food quality and portions, but not overly so. I would have liked to see more variety on the menu; it was mostly salads, chicken or steak sandwiches/wraps, and burgers with a couple beef or chicken entrees. I went there with a group of twenty, and Starters was able to serve us within a reasonable amount of time given the circumstances. Walking into Starters I was expecting to see more of a Sports Bar theme sense that was what was advertised, however there was a lack of that shown here at the establishment. The waiters and waitresses are very kind, but sometimes forget about you for a minute. The restaurant was very clean and presentable and the noise level was average. Now the main point of interest, the food. The food was very pleasuring. I had the BBQ Chicken, even though it was very good, I feel it was very over priced for all I received. WIlliamson, WV has some restaurants with great potential. I came in with a large group tonight that was served by 2 very attentive servers. They took a little while to bring some food out but remembered every detail. I can overlook that because, as I said they were enthusiastic and rushing every moment to get our food out as soon as they could. I had the buffalo chicken salad which hit the spot. Williiamson has quite an extensive downtown area that is quite lovely so a laid back meal at Starter's followed by a walk down a sidewalk lined with hanging flower baskets is a great way to spend a summer evening in my book. read more

Starters is a really nice sports bar that is great for any occasion. I was able to enjoy myself and watch the game with my fellow members of my summer college program. The service was good and my food came rather quickly. This is where it gets quite disappointing for my experience. I ordered the grilled chicken breast dinner special. It was quite good but the serving size was very small. After my time was said and done, I was still hungry. Maybe its because I ordered the dish and the chicken tends to be a lot smaller. Other than this very nice place to eat. I recommend not ordering the grilled chicken dinner though. read more

While staying at the Mountaineer Hotel down the street, my colleagues and I decided to find a place within the area for food, rather than leave Williamson. The restaurant we settled in was Starters. It is an amazing restaurant. The food was outstanding and the waiters were very nice and friendly. The quality of the food was simply superb. I ordered the BLT Wrap, and with each bite, my mouth became flooded with flavors. Following the BLT Wrap, I ate lemon cake, which was baked with a very noticeable sense of passionate cooking. I expected a sports bar feel from the place as was advertised but found it did not fully leave up to the ideal. I was, however, pretty close, allowing one some down time in a medium to low level noise atmosphere. The lower amounts of natural light in the restaurant worked well with their theme. The service was not the best as not as much attention was paid to the customers as hoped for, but there were over twenty people being served so it can be understood. "Starters" is a fine restaurant located in downtown Williamson, KY. Stopping at Williamson for the first time, me, my classmates and teacher drop by the restaurant and I got a decent food. I ordered a Chicken Club, and was glad I did. The size was enough to feed me, and the taste delicious under my tongue. The personnel were welcoming and more or less professional. The order takes an acceptable amount of time and the inside of the restaurant has a nice aesthetic. While waiting one can get the chance to enjoy their free Wi-Fi or talk with friends. read more

Walking down 2nd Avenue in Williamson gives you a great scenic view of an old coal town feel that has stood the test of time. Starters is a fabulous addition to the community for out-of-towners to come and eat a well prepared meal. Ranging from burgers, to steaks, to hotdogs, or even fish, you can find just about anything to satisfy those taste buds. A non-smoking section in the front separates a smoking-section and bar areas so that way all ages can enjoy the experience. I really liked what we ate there, however the service was not to great and the one that was serving us kind of messed up my experience. This place was just kind of a hole in the wall on a road in Williamson which is a really nice place to be. I don't really know whether it was the crowd that we brought in there or if it was just that day of work for that woman however I would probably give this place another chance if I was ever back in their area because the food was really good I would just hope for better service the next go around. read more

Starters was a pretty OK restaurant. I actually enjoyed my meal (Chicken Club). I will admit it does take a while for your meal to arrive in front of you, which isn't too bad if you have some good company. The restaurant doesn't seem like a great place for a family, seems more suited to be a hang out place for sports fanatics than anything. Also not a good place to bring a big crowd since Starter's is small and has an awful floor plan layout....but beggars can't be choosers especially in the small city of Williamson WV. read more

I was disappointed in the quality of food that I was served. I ordered a vegetable platter, but the tomatoes and celery I was given were not ripe and lacked flavor, and overall the amount of vegetables was on the skimpy side. The service itself, though, was very good. The waitresses were very friendly and patient when taking orders from myself and 18 other colleagues, and they checked our tables frequently to ensure we had everything we needed.
