We booked a tour with Crossroads through Viator and it was a great choice. Our guide Mike was perfect. Low key, patience of a saint( people drive like yahoos even in Yosemite) knowledgeable with lots of history and current news of the park. Mike made sure to show us where the trailheads were for hikes we were thinking of taking at a later date. Our family of 6 took up most of the van and we were lucky to have another couple who were wonderful,to share the experience with us. You will get an early start with this tour but it is well worth it. We saw EVERYTHING! Thank goodness for Mike, he really was the perfect guide for us. I bobbled the booking and they were still happy to accommodate us. Do them a favor and contact them 72 hours in advance of your tour date-even if it is the weekendWe got a nice bagged lunch from Bee's Bakery and Cafe and good quality T-Shirts with the tour. We were tired but very happy that we booked a tour with Crossroads and Mike was our guide by the time we were dropped off at our car in the late afternoon. Traveling all day in a van with people who match your energy is priceless. Thanks for a really great experience Mike!!

Jones Store, up at Beasore Meadow (about half an hour above Bass Lake), was everything I hoped and…read moredreamed. (We lived in Bass Lake for 7 years and somehow never came up here when Jones Store was open -- well, today was the day.) It's a wonderful little spot in the high country, next to a beautiful meadow, with friendly, welcoming people and wonderful food. We learned that they have been in business since the 1930s (with an original cash register -- only cash here! No cards or checks)! And the building it's in -- with so much fun charm and decor -- has been there since the 50s. No electricity up here -- everything runs on solar, or generators or (like the colorful old fashioned fridges full of soda, water, and beer) on propane. The folks who run it shared that they go and stock everything for the store themselves: they go to Fresno (a one and a half hour drive each way) and do the shopping and bring the food up here themselves. And when you consider all that work, the prices are very reasonable (even if they would be high for Fresno). A delicious home cooked and extremely flavorful cheeseburger (on Dutch crust bun with grilled onions, tomato and pickles) with potato chips, which two adults can easily share, is $15. A huge piece of homemade pie with ice cream and whipped cream (again, which 2 adults can share), is $10. Hours are hard to find online but a sign there says it's open (summers only) Tues-Sun 10-4 or until the food runs out -- and sometimes it does run out so get there earlyish. There's lots of beautiful outdoor seating with views in every direction. Bodie (the Jones Store dog) might say hello. He was very friendly and chill when we were there. We got quite a few photos of this adorable place, both inside and out, as well as the menu board. Jones Store is completely unique -- anyone who likes cheeseburgers or homemade pie should definitely make the trip up!

We loved the awesome view of the lake, and the patio is a perfect place to sit and relax with 2 chairs & a firepit. We were a late check-in and someone called us before we arrived, to give us information on getting into the cabin, parking and general instructions. Friday night was pretty quiet. Saturday night we could hear some good music playing from the restaurant patio. It was loud enough to hear from inside our room, but by no means bothersome. We enjoyed the vibe. By about 9:30ish, we noticed the music had stopped and it was back to silence. Our trip was cut short for personal reasons, but we'll definitely stay here any chance we get.

The beds are very comfortable and the cabins come equipped with some amenities, plenty of towels and blankets and very high quality linens which is unexpected in a cozy cabin. Each cabin has a theme, we were in the Bear Cabin which is cabin 19, and our friends were in the Eagle cabin. All the cabins have lovely lake views and front porches - perfect for watching the time pass while enjoying the incredible view. Ours is not right on the lake but up the hill so you can still see the view from your windows and front porch. Very quiet, serene and peaceful. There is a general store and restaurant on-sight - making it a very convenient place to stay in a pretty quiet area. We ate at the restaurant and thought it was quite good (wrote a separate review of that). I am only giving the property four stars because there were a couple areas that I think could be improved but it was nothing we felt we had to tell the staff. Again, we were very happy with the place. Overall, the cleanliness of the cabin could be improved. Seems like the porch hadn't been hosed down in ages and was full of dust and cobwebs. The floor also didn't seem like it had been cleaned very well. I'll give some leeway here as the area was quite dusty after a dry summer. There was a giant cobweb insight the bathroom window which was a little unsettling. Also to note, the beach area closest to the resort seems to be very popular for locals on Saturdays so it got crowded. Obviously they can't control that, but wanted to mention here for your plans if you stay. You will need to get space early. Overall, would recommend this cute resort with very cozy cabins for a mountain getaway. We didn't get a chance to explore the area - it was very hot so we spent our time at the lake. We'd like to come back in the fall and do more exploring.
